Anyone tried this?

I was wondering if would work to get a few small rubber stamps made with some common icons like Imperial Eagles, winged skulls and such that could be used on terrain, flags and vehicles?

I never liked working with transfers and I wonder if a stamp could do the job.

Personally I find doing decals quite satisfying, but I can see why others wouldn't! Don't see why a stamp wouldn't work - with the caveat about non-flat surfaces being more awkward, that I'm sure you've already anticipated...

Yeah it's the whole dish of water, and tweezers and not getting wrinkles and then varnishing it to hide the transfer...

I get the appeal when they're done well but yeah.

I suppose a custom stencil would also work.

maybe even better.

Does acrylic paint work well with rubber stamps?

It seems like it could work on Imperial Guard or Ork vehicles, but I don't see it working for Eldar or Marines.

I've tried it for scenery, with results that I wasn't quite going for, so I haven't used it much. I found the paint to get a good imprint around the perimeter, but not in the middle of the stamp. With acrylics its very easy to overload the stamp detail. I think it works fine for grafitti and ad-hoc imaging, but I think it would be hard for high-quality imaging purposes.

It might work better with thinner inks to get the outline clearly, then go over again with more opaque paint to get the depth. However, that rather defeats the purpose of making it a simple one-step route to clear "decal equivalent" outcomes.

For curved surfaces you might be able to roll the stamp a little? Might be some warping.

Most of my issues with transfers were fixed with a sponge and microsol/set.

I don't know about rubber stamps, but have you seen the Stampin' Plates from https://goblinhobbies.com/ ?
Out of stock at the moment, but it is based off of fingernail stamping materials, so you can look into those, too. Maniology is one major brand producing and selling them.

Wow. Those look awesome for people who don’t like transfers.

Downside is using nail polish type paints, so matching might be an issue.

But damn, impressive looking.

My only issue is alignment. With transfers allow you time to slide them around to get them right.
Also on some models it would be hard to impossible to stamp something in areas that are hard to reach.

This would be great for Space Marine shields/personal & Crusade heraldry.

I suspect you are correct. I’m just working with what’s in their demo video, but it looks like it picks up the paint from the palette/template and deposits it on the target. So you get one shot to line things up.

I know for things like assault marines you have the JP overshadowing the shoulder and agree it would be hard to stamp things. But if you knew this was how you were going to do markings, you could do sub-assemblies different.

Is it a coincidence that this was just posted on YouTube?

Didn't see this above, so I guess not...

I wanted to try this years ago for model railcars. Even bought a couple mini letter stamp sets from Ali Express. Never got around to it. Maybe I should give it a go.
