I've had Kroot-heavy tau army I haven't played with since 4th edition. I'm dusting it off seeing what's still viable, and I think I can get just a handful of new stuff. I'm a bit rusty with 40k in general, so bear with me on this list:

3x20 Kroot Carnivores, each with attached flesh Shaper and Trail Shaper.

3x10 Firestalkers with attached War Shaper

1x10 Strike Team with attached Fireblade

1x10 Pathfinder with Darkstrider

2x3 Krootox

1x10 Kroothound

1x3 Broadside

1x5 Stealth suits.

Always great to see another Kroot player. I'll happily toss in my 2 cents.

First off, I'd switch your Shapers around. The Trail Shapers work better with the Farstalkers as they allow you to infiltrate them to screen them pop them back to safety after deployment is done. The melee War Shapers and Flesh Shapers work well together as well, while the bow one is only good with the enhancement from the KHP detachment.

Secondly, aside from taking on every light infantry, the Kroot Hounds won't do much damage, so splitting them into groups of 5 to screen and harass vehicles will serve you a lot better.

Given that you currently have a solid mix of Tau and Kroot units, I'd advise the Auxiliary Cadre detachment for your army. You're Kroot will remaind squishy, but it does increase the damage output of your Tau units substantially, especially if you can get something like some Breachers or Crisis suits in there. Vespid are great in Aux Cadre too and are a solid filler in KHP. The new Kill Team 10 man can even be built as 2 squads of 5 which gets you some fair bang for your buck. They are super mobile and hit pretty hard, especially with the buffs in Aux Cadre.

That being said, The Kroot Hunting Pack detachment is very thematic and (currently) very strong. It's a lot to invest into as all the models are so points light, but it's such a fun army to play.

Lone Spears and Rampagers are a good place to start for either detachment as they are key units in both.

The amount of damage output the Lone Spears increase your army by with tossing out their full re-rolls every turn cannot be understated, they are also so mobile they are one of the hardest units to kill in the game if you are careful with your positioning. Start with the Blast Javelin version, it's a lot better at the moment.

Rampagers are the great new melee powerhouse. Even without the huge buffs from the Hunting Pack detachment, a brick of 6 of them will still plow through damn near anything for only 170 points.

If there's any questions you have on the army or getting back into 10th, feel free to hit me up.

Happy hunting Kindred.
