The Marine Standing Behind Marneus Calgar
|
Welcome all to the 137th round of the Dakka Painting challenge. For the unfamiliar, this is a friendly painting competition open to members of all skill levels and experience, whether your entry is your first or you thousand-and-first time painting miniatures. Each month, finished entries are collected into a thread where the community can vote on their favorite pieces, and those votes go towards an annual overall League that runs for 12 rounds.
This month the topic is: Size (doesn't) matter - Paint something really big (giants, ogres, superheavy vehicles) or really small (halfings, snotlings). Models with ridiculous oversized weapons or wargear also fit. If you want to go meta, try something in a scale you don't normally work with. Your entry should be defined by its size.
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You may enter at any time during the month, up to the last minute. We do encourage people to enter early, as to be part of the community, but if you can’t start until the 11th hour, that’s OK.
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.
So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.
These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.
How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of July and will end at midnight EST on June 31st After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

So my take is going to be the Ork Wartrakk:
Converted from the Wartrike, with 3d printed tracks, chimera and russ bits, and rokkits from the front of a deffkopta. My logic is fits the theme because it has a ridiculous gun and it's BIG! still on the trike base rather than trakk sized so it'll still be a counts-as trike for Speed Freeks and, well, size doesn't matter because I don't really care about 40k proper

Going to try to get the dread done. Also some of the heavy intercessors, but probably not to enter.

Same here, except my dread is Legion imperialis scale
Not sure if I'm going to paint anything else for the entry or not. Maybe my full size dread? I could always shift to my custom ork stompa.

These halflings from Midlam have been waiting patiently for some attention for a long, long time. I'll focus on the villagers at first, and start on the wizards if I have the time and the inspiration.

I'll try to complete my armoured train model - Panzertriebwagen 16 in scale 1:72. It was german armoured locomotive from the Second World War. After the war it was used by Polish army, and later it was transferred to the rail museum in Warsaw where it remains to this day. The original weights about 200 tons, so I think it fits the theme .
I am designing the model myself and I want to print and paint it. So far i have (proof pictures):
almost all designed, except the middle part. Render from Blender software:
and two parts printed:
You can see how it should look like on Wikipedia, unfortunately there is no page in English but at least there are photos of the complete vehicle .
If I don't manage to finish the model by the end of the month, can I enter it in the summer contest?

Feel free to overlap project here and the summer project. Just be sure to follow the rules for both.
If you want to break the summer project over 3 monthlies, as long as they all fit the category and are done within the month, it’s all good.

Hooded Inquisitorial Interrogator
|
Was a little bit undecided about this month's theme, I have a few OG 54mm Inquisitor models in the pile and the Fallout Liberty Prime, all of which would be a great fit but I'm not convinced I've got the time this month to do those justice unfortunately as I've got a lot of work travel coming up.
Some thinking I'll go with the Super Mutant Behemoth as something by definition on the big side. Plus planning to do some more regular sized Super Mutants for the green theme in August, so means I should be able to stick with a consistent paint scheme if I do them back to back!

Ragin' Ork Dreadnought

It's great that this month lines up with something I have been wanting to paint and get out of my pile of shame. I don't know how far I will get, especially after last month's poor showing, but I will try to complete some combination of 3 scratch-built ork stompas and a scratch-built ork gorkanaught that I made and primed around 9 years ago. If there's actually time, I will try to complete building a forth scratch-built ork stompa that I starter making last year.
