That's odd, we fixed it.

With a whole Internet between you guys and the server in Germany, it could be any number of things causing the lag. Even the normal latency can't be great. PM me the times/dates (and timezones) of when you lost items due to crash/lag and I'll revert your stuff.

That's a nice start to whatever it is.

I think it's an Australian thing, I've had no lag.

Its the start of a big monastery built into the side of a mountain
Im not sure it is an Australian thing corpses, because the servers been crashing frequently and the people Ive asked have been getting lag. You could be right though.

Australians tend to get horrible lag as a general rule so it would make sense.

So far away!

But I like it, put some sort of visitor's center on the little island and have a minecart or bridge going over to our very own safari!

Also are texture packs counted as mods, or do they just affect your interface and not the server?

Texture packs are client only.

Texture packs that just change the look and feel are fine. This is a good list:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/861837-%EF%BD%A1%E2%98%85-texture-pack-central-%E2%98%85%EF%BD%A1/
(Start with the 16x ones as they don't need any mod)

X-Ray, transparent or ore-finding texture packs which allow seeing through walls etc are frowned upon as they're not in the spirit of the game and if people are found using them they are banned.

What about high-contrast ores?

That's iron for example. Diamond would be blue, redstone red, coal a brownish black, and gold ... well, gold.

That's fine because you don't see it till it's exposed anyway. I only meant the texture packs that expose hidden rooms and caverns etc.

Don'tt hink I've ever used any of those textures, so I should be good....

Maybe it's just me but I find that "high contrast" iron ore harder to pick out than normal iron ore.

I doubled the size of the netherwart farm at the shroom biome's portal. I'm working on bringing more dirt to the biome so we can perhaps expand it a bit, creating satellite islands around it.

The brightness and texturedifference more than makes up for it.
