Rolling for random powers(and warlord traits) before every battle has never sat right with me. I'd much rather pay extra points to know what I was getting.

You should be able to pick your warlord trait.

True, though warlord traits are not created equal.

To anyone with the book, are there any options to take different AUX choices from this book in a gladius? Id love to remove my scout tax with something useful.

Though we are getting slightly off topic, do you think they should be given a points value depending on their strength?

No. Just pick it. If everyone gets to pick it, who cares what the cost should be?

TBH even though I'm not a fan of the random rolls I can see why GW uses them for warlord traits and psyker powers. Individually costing each trait and power available to each army would be a massive amount of work to get even close to balanced. It just doesn't feel right that while I have total control over the troops and equipment that make up the army my commander is leading(probably one of the most unrealistic parts of any war game), his/her/its skills and the powers of whatever flavour of space wizard they have access to are random and change every battle.

Fair enough, there's a massive variety available now. I just wish there were less traits that were pretty much useless, many are situational at best, some are downright non effective.

If you feel this is against the background, perhaps you should familiarize yourself with the background.

The warp isn't some peaceful library where some bookish old maid helps you you check out some powers. It's a raging hellstorm of undiluted chaos and raw power. There is nothing consistent about psykers, and no portion of the background has every insinuated as such.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

There is a pic on atias site that shows a little side segment in the book that details 4 famous strike forces, one of them being a BT skyhammer strike force with order of the ebon chalice allies, to which no heretic could withstand such zealous fury.

Sorry on mobile so can't link image quickly.

Thanks - always interested in the Sororitas and Black Templars so this sounds really good

Guess I imagined all those previous editions where you could choose your powers
As for the background I cant remember any examples of trained psykers having such wildly fluctuating powers(no doubt examples will be forthcoming ). But fluff or not I'd prefer such potentially game changing ability's to be less random, especially when we have such control over the make up of the rest of our forces.

I'm pretty sure that the randomness of the warp is already reflected in the random warp charge allocation and psychic tests/perils of the warp rolls.

I'm not sure "what psychic powers you know" really qualifies as something that would be dictated by the random nature of the warp. Just imagine some lonely librarian sitting around at home, randomly learning and forgetting new powers

Perhaps channeling warp energy is kind of like chemistry. You do know the spells / powers but have to have access to the correct type of warp energy and combine different types to cast certian powers / spells

The random powers indicated what spells can be created with given warp energy available at the time and place of that battle, since the make up of parts of the warp is ever changing.

And forgot the ones where you couldn't. Random powers weren't a brand new game mechanic in 6th.

I can't wait to see my buddies Iron Hand's list at the next game. They look like they made out like bandits. He isn't a fan of psykers being a former BT player but techromancy looks too awesome. And 3 Techmarines for each Librarian? Nice.

Come on, dude. The book even says that ALL psykers know the primaris power. You're making this up ad hoc.

But anyway, that's why I think this is kind of a good thing. Sure, random psychic power tables sucks, but if NOTHING else, you now have 12 primaris powers to choose from, even on a level 1 librarian. Plus you get a roll on any table of your choosing, plus one per mastery level. That is dank.

Plus Iron Hands can get a Force Thunder Hammer. Take that, smashfether

Librarius Conclave in general I think is pretty savage as an allied formation. Esp considering you can put Tigurius in there.
