Terrible pun intend Yeah, Gates of Valhalla really is. I haven't started the characters yet but looking through the rules the development paths look very well thought out. I love a dungeon crawler. Also, because you're so dependent on melee I suspect it's going to feel a lot more lethal - Forbidden Fortress (Feudal Japanese fantasy) has this to an extent but there's at least some ranged options, in Gates it's just the one archer character and no support (no ashigaru riflemen in Valhalla!) At least in the Old West version you're blasting away till you get overrun. Plus, the whole game has a great Frostgrave vibe.
aku-chan wrote:Lots of good stuff, love the faces on the trolls!

Thanks! I decided not to use flesh colours but blend pinks instead and I think it really pops.
In the meantime, I took a wee break from Valhalla to start the other Adventures set, Valley of the Serpent Kings:

The Croxin! a fearsome beast indeed.

Had quite a lot of fun with this, adding the wee cowboy hat to the base, playing with glue for drool, and so on.
Meanwhile, have started turning a viking warrior into a Draugr for the monthly contest and will then get onto the big guys. I'll likely hold off on my Alliance team for BB for next month's Footslogger contest as my Clone Troopers haven't turned up yet. Tragic, I know.

Back to Valhalla

For variety, just decided to convert one into a Draugr as part of the monthly contest. With these done, I'll move up to the big fellas.

And just for fun, found this fella in my random fantasy mini bag.

Painted him up as Remy, the incredibly sweary Fox duelist from the Crimes Against Magic series. Nice to do something for no reason other than feeling like it. As ever, painting is therapy.

Really need to actually play with them

Theophony wrote:Happy B-Day young man. Enjoy the day.

young?! Nope lol.

Thanks all for birthday wishes. Got spoiled and had excellent Japanese food. Geek wise, I got a couple of good boardgames (Azul mini, UNLOCK Adventures, Turing Machine, Bitoku Resturan), the XL Playmat for Star wars unlimited and more underwater mythos abominations for my Rashaar. Treated myself to some miscellaneous Highlander cards to finish off a couple of immortals (The Sorcerer Nakano from highlander 3, Martin Hyde from the TV show) and an expansion for Isle of Cats.

In the meantime, a bit of work on my blood bowl accessories.

This is probably the scoreboard, making separate ones for different teams rather than a Home/Away board.

My plan is to make some score markers to prop up against it and do something similar for the boy's Vampires.

Open to suggestions for a reroll marker or for the thing in general though. Thinking a shexy wench (feeling lucky?)

Thinking ahead to next month's contest, which is Footsloggers - Conquistadors (living and dead), and perhaps some serpentmen for them to face off against.

Reroll counter could be a barmaid with a serving tray. Use a metal disc on top of the tray and then magnetize beer mugs to go on the tray for each reroll. As they are used you can remove them and attach them to the backside of the scoreboard so they don't get lost. Pro-player rerolls can be larger mugs

Barmaid idea is genius, I have some goblin barmaid stls which I'll print once the garage is not in use for brewing (tis the season).

Back in the land of the living... ish. A week in whitby eating far too much food (Fish, mostly), playing a lot of cards and board games, and not touching minis... and then a week of sorting out house stuff, and getting distracted by new Star wars tcg release.

Also, tbh, just not really feeling dakka, though that's part of a wider sense of mini apathy.

However! Having had no painting mojo at all this month, finally settled on something for the footsloggers contest

Setaris Ravagers- not so much footsloggers as tail / wing sloggers! Nasty scavenging alien Dinos, from Brimstone but also ideal for 2000AD, Stargrave, you name it.

And having found a bit of mojo, some colour!
Who knows, maybe I'll even finish them?

Thanks kindly sir
And so, Ravagers done

I do like how posable they are, the kits have greatly improved.

The observant will spot only 5 on the reverse, that's cos it's the pic I took for the contest.

Next is likely to be more shatterpoint. Send in the Clones...

Thanks mate! I have some winged serpents I might do next to continue the theme I'm thinking in a classic swooping hawk turquoise.
JoshInJapan wrote:Oh, those are fun models. I like how you highlighted the red-- you did that with caucasian flesh tones, right? I seem to remember you saying something about that on an earlier project.

Yes! That's my go to. VJ flat flesh. They're super poseable and £20 for 6 - great value.

So, on we go. I have made a start on the new batch of mythos critters for my Rashaar with the Bounding Telcine

It's so interesting to have a monster that's specifically designed to go after objectives, definitely fills a gap in the roster.

This comes from the Bestial Evolution set which my kids got me for my birthday, a great set of complementary monsters that don't require you to run a monster-only Leader (the Flame That Burns Underwater - Mother hydra, essentially), but rather can slot in to any list. Smart kids

And, continuing the somewhat aquatic theme, Drowned Dead for Shadows of Brimstone

Initially I really wasn't feeling these, so wasn't going to do them for the monthly contest, but if anything I have ended up liking them even more than the Ravagers never mind.

I've spent this evening building Battle Droids and Grievous, so my separatist forces will be ready to fight the Clone War against the boy on his return from camp. Which, of course means, I now need to build General Kenobi... better get that done before Mace Windu crashes the party along with the crew of the Ghost
Ah, the power of the Dark Side...

Ended up finishing the Bestial Evolution set that the kids got me for my birthday.

Tidied up the Telcine

The Brachyura, giant crab.

Paint scheme inspired by catbarf's coconut crab tyranids

The Salaacia, a giant water spewing slug

The colour scheme was inspired by a life painting of a grotesquely fat man I saw as a teenager. I've always thought it would be good for nurgle, but never got round to it.

And the Caandru Eel with its demogorgon vibes.

Kind of a test for winged serpents, weirdly

Really enjoyed doing these. Meanwhile, all the new Star Wars is primed and built, ready to go, though I may try to crank out some more Carnevale (well actually guildball minis repurposed to that effect, but still).

However, I'm back in a bit of a ccg place: Star Wars Unlimited has caught my attention, and I'm continuing my dive into dead ccgs not only with Highlander (still the best) but a little 7th Sea also. Yarrrrr, and so forth

I realise that I am fundamentally using dakka as a file store these days. It does help me track what I've painted and when, and does so for the last 15 years (gulp). But I do feel the community side has diminished somewhat. Perhaps it's just the nature of the social media age.

Anyway, I'm still here, one way or another

On which note, I've been working on more Shatterpoint. Prepare for photo dump!

Hello there!

General Kenobi, ready to lead the 212th

Much Osl fun and games.

Phase 2 armour is generally a bit more battle worn and individual than Phase 1, so went a bit grubbier than I would for, say, Stormtroopers.

A lot of the orange sections had to be freehand, which is very annoying.

Commander Cody. Cracking sculpt but again, lots irritating freehand requited.

Good soldiers follow orders, after all.

And a group shot, naturally

I think I've figured out how to do split foci on my camera.

Now they need an enemy! So, to lead the Separatist forces, Count Dooku:

He may be my favourite model I've painted in a long time. Twice the pride indeed.

I went for the force lightning hand sculpt, because rule of cool.

And a little duel of fate...

And finally, got to have his beskar bestie.

Loved doing this model, even the slightly nmm armour.

Of all the models NOT to come with a separate head Oh, I made a wee objective thing out of left over terrain parts, too.

Painted the base with a R6 droid, which I'm not entirely convinced is era appropriate, but I won't tell anyone if you don't. Anyway, star wars fans are famously relaxed about such things

Next will be Grievous, B2 battle droids and magna guard, which neatly fits August's theme of Beep-boop need to do them quickly, though, as want to have them on the table to play at the end of next week. I have a day totally to myself on Monday, though, so that's the plan. Well, that and Deadpool. Also got a Blood Bowl day planned next week with a mate and the kids so that should be fun. We've been trying to schedule this since December though, so...
