It's a common problem when there is a gap under the portal, you get stuck in the obsidian of the base.

Ladies and gentlemen, the New Dakka Trade District and Commerce Center is up and ready for use.

The only thing missing now, is some glowstone for the ceiling lights and some nether fence to go around the back of the center itself.

How to use the Center:

1. Remove a blank sign, or a sign you already have used, and replace it with,
Your Name
Items Looking For
Quantity
Items paid out (and if feeling clever, stick a ratio down!)

Example!

Janje2
Wooden Blocks
1x Stack
Coal

2. Remove the Torch, and replace it with a redstone torch to signify a new job.

3. if accepting a job, remove the torch above it completly, be it red or normal.

4. PM the fellow next time he is online.

Be sure to use the right name.

Such as "wood" for actual wooden logs, and "planks" for the derivative of logs.

Could add in a system where you flick a switch to turn on a redstone torch to show that it's a new job, or if there's a new reply. Just saves on the eventual missing ones that are likely. Not that they're hard to come by.

Then I guess have an accepting wall set up the same, having each job numbered and the section for people interested in taking it on the other side where they leave their name and a basic offer. Gives both parties a little more of an idea, and I guess competition.

For the more common traded items we could work out their generic value and leave it somewhere, sort of like how the prices of shares are shown.

These ideas probably add needless complexity to it though, as usual.

So no one can tell me who owns the massive fenced off area at x: -1300 z: 90 ? Its west of the spawn, and its been untouched since day 1 of the new server.

I wanna build this bad boy there (obviously it will be prettier, its just the test version in single player) as its the perfect spot:

See, now it's getting a bit "annoying" that my portal no longer works because people built up around me and put in portals, and then suddenly there's some "Trade" thing with another bloody portal right next to me. It also doesn't help that it's a hideous cube.

Can anyone help me sort my portal at some point?

It's not too difficult: take the X and Z coordinates and divide each by 8. Round down (not towards zero, down) and those are the nether coordinates you want. To be extra safe, use the Y coordinate as well (same between nether and overworld).

If your Overworld portal is at:
-158, 25, 269

then your nether portal would be at:
-20, 25, 33

As long as your portal is the only one within about 8-16 blocks of -158, 25, 269, you should connect.

my Portal is EXACLTY on the co-ords. Yours is wrong. Sort it out man.... Honestly...

Cus i didn't realise what with it being a considerable distance away from you, that you hadn't placed YOUR portal correctly. My bad. Shan't happen again.

no no i registered your apology ^^!

i didn't ask first because we both set up shop around the same time, and again i was a fair distance away, and as i said in game, you kept expanding till i had to move away.

This can all be solved, by fixing your own portal.

And it was kinda the same time. You were JUST starting to build things at the same time as me. You'd JUST Finished on building a sugar farm bit, and were adding cows.

Indeed! Portal is fixed and I got loots from server crash duplication, so I'm happy now.

Well this is just great! I traveled 2000+ blocks with two wolves I tamed and I have just logged in at spawn to find that they are dead! Whoever killed them own up now!
