Is this the part of the post-election conversation where we post every single bad thing that a supporter of either side has done? I'm just checking before I start posting all of the bad things Trump supporters have done lately.

Trying to kick a child out to the curb and calling it a joke is a pretty poor excuse. That kid looked absolutely traumatized, and I sympathize deeply for him. That's not how to teach people how to be tolerant of dissenting opinions.

Mom kicks out Trump-supporting son in viral video

A viral video shows a mother disowning her young son for supporting Donald Trump in a mock election.
Spoiler:

FRESNO, TX (KTRK) --
A Fort Bend County mother is under fire for a video posted on Facebook that went viral.

It shows her berating her young son, even forcing him out with a suitcase.

The detective we spoke with says the video doesn't appear to show any wrongdoing, so right now no charges have been filed. But it's still very disturbing to people on all sides of the aisle. The mom walked her crying son from their house to the corner, with a suitcase and sign in hand -- all because he voted for Donald Trump in a mock election.

"Get your suitcase," this mother said as her son screamed. "Get your suitcase and get out. Bye."

She made him stand on the corner with a sign in his hand that said, "My mom kicked me out the house because I voted for Donald Trump."

Someone posted the video to social media, and it has been shared thousands of times.

"I think it's crazy," says one of the family's neighbors. "People need to realize when you put certain things on social media, you never know how far it's gonna go."

Neighbors were absolutely shocked to see that this happened right on their street.

"I've been on this street for four years. Awesome family," she says.

While we were in front of the house Friday, CPS came by. Whoever was inside spoke to her through the door. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office is also investigating.

"I have personally met with the family and saw the child, his well-being. He appears to be in good health," says Detective Joe Luera.

Detective Luera says he met with the family off-site.

"She explains it was a joke," Luera explained.

She told Eyewitness News the same thing over the phone. She initially agreed to share her story on camera, but later changed her mind.

We're told the investigation is ongoing.

I disagree. I think it really has to do with the nature of changing experiences with age. Our demographic, especially those in universities and the likes, tend to be more idealistic and progressive. However, with age (aka once we start paying our own bills from our own career salaries), many of us will shift our focuses towards saving money where we can to support our own households, families, careers, etc. As the saying goes, "If you're not a Democrat at 20, you're heartless; if you're not a Republican at 40, you're brainless," or something to that effect. Not the most savory of quotes, but it does hint at this pattern of change. The next generation will also vote overwhelmingly liberal, period. In 20 years, many of us, though not all, will shift conservatively, guaranteed.

Hang on now. Why is this news? Trump has literally nothing to do with this. Is this a change in policy? Or has this been planned out for months but held after the election?

http://www.star-telegram.com/news/nation-world/national/article114395683.html

Officials: 150 US border agents being sent to South Texas

EDINBURG, Texas

About 150 Border Patrol agents will be deployed to South Texas from Arizona, California and elsewhere to help process a spike in immigrants who have been apprehended after illegally entering the U.S., federal officials announced Saturday.

Agents from Tucson, Arizona, and San Diego will be temporarily reassigned to the Rio Grande Valley, and agents working another portion of the Texas border will join them, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement.

The additional agents will assist with screening and processing immigrants taken into custody along the border, many of whom are unaccompanied children and families.

Hundreds of thousands of people have sought asylum along the U.S.-Mexico border in the last two years, and the majority are Central American families who often turn themselves in as opposed to mostly Mexican men trying to evade capture, according to a federal report obtained last month by The Associated Press.

Since 2014, the Rio Grande Valley has led the nation as the region with the most apprehensions of immigrants entering the U.S. illegally. Asylum seekers, many of them fleeing drug-fueled violence south of the border, peaked in 2014 at 170,000, nearly triple the 63,000 who arrived the previous year. Before 2012, there were fewer than 30,000 a year.

Leaders in the South Texas city of McAllen said earlier this month that they're struggling to provide services and noted that October was the busiest month since 2014 for a church support center, with more than 5,600 immigrants offered assistance. The city and local groups have spent nearly $1 million over two years to provide showers, tents and other needs, Mayor Jim Darling told The Monitor newspaper.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said in a statement Thursday there are about 41,000 people being held in U.S. immigration detention facilities. The number normally fluctuates between 31,000 and 34,000, he said.

"Our borders cannot be open to illegal migration," Johnson said. "We must, therefore, enforce the immigration laws consistent with our priorities. Those priorities are public safety and border security. Specifically, we prioritize the deportation of undocumented immigrants who are convicted of serious crimes and those apprehended at the border attempting to enter the country illegally."

Technically speaking our generation barely voted at all. Our turnout was pitiful (especially when compared to Hispanics who turn out to have had one of the most impressive turnouts in recent history. Including early voting something like 3/4 of eligible Hispanic voters actually voted). It's especially shameful as votes continue to be tallied, and while overall turnout is still lower than 2012, it's not as low as initial projections suggested. There were a lot of early and absentee votes this year.>

Then you are wrong. The "sea of red" idea ignores the fact that many of those visually prominent red areas have very low population. So yeah, visually it's a sea of red with a small dot of blue, but that dot of blue has more people than the whole red area by a large margin. And it also makes everything binary red/blue instead of representing the fact that many red/blue areas were much closer to 50/50 than 100/0. Much of that "sea of red" could be more accurately described as "sea of red-tinted purple".

So where is the false equivalency? Was a law in place in every instance? Yes. Were there clear ramifications for breaking said law? Yes. Is one group being basically advocated to have an "out" for their punishment, an elimination of them having committed the crime in the first place, AND getting tax payer backed help that some people who never BROKE that law get? Absolutely. So I don't see a false equivalency. I wonder if Casey Chadwick or Kathryn Steinle would, other than the fact that they are both dead now.

Yeah, but no points scored means no points gained! What kind of loser attitude is that?

So where is the false equivalency? Was a law in place in every instance? Yes. Were there clear ramifications for breaking said law? Yes. Is one group being basically advocated to have an "out" for their punishment, an elimination of them having committed the crime in the first place, AND getting tax payer backed help that some people who never BROKE that law get? Absolutely. So I don't see a false equivalency. I wonder if Casey Chadwick or Kathryn Steinle would, other than the fact that they are both dead now.

Because you somehow think that illegally entering a country is on par with the worst crimes humans can commit and why you were called out for it by both sides

Yeah, let's make a different comparison, with smoking pot. Is it a crime? Yes. Are the police making every attempt to catch pot smokers, and never letting them off with a warning? No. Do reasonable people support the abuses of the war on drugs, including sending people to prison with felony convictions for pot? Hell no. Illegal immigration is arguably in the same category. It's technically illegal, but getting caught up in "PAY THE PRICE FOR YOUR CRIMES" is hardly a productive way to deal with the problem.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
