You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

Im back! Got my players choice! It was a lot of fun and thanks to all of you that stopped by. Same as the years before I am always flattered by all the people stopping by to take pictures or talk about the army. I met a lot of you from here on Dakka and it was a lot of fun all around. I didnt get appearance but it went to another Ork army, so we Ork players really brought it this year! I look forward to the next one, now just have to think of what to make

I think Redbeard's won...he has a thread going somewhere as well. If I had to decide, I don't know which I'd pick...GMM's seem to have more thematic value, but Redbeard's are pretty darn cool too!
EDIT:Here they are.

What!?!?
Redbeard may have had some cooler conversions, but I think GMM's is still miles better, especially the display board--there's just no comparison there. Honestly, if a army wasn't required, you should have just won with the display board alone!
GMM, you should hire a lawyer.

Haha.

I agree, GMM's display board is much much better than mine. And that's why he won player's choice, by a landslide. Having a really cool display is essential to winning the player's choice awards. He got my vote.

On the other hand, the display board counts very little towards army appearance judging. Do you have one? Yes. Is it more than just a flocked board? Yes. That's pretty much as far as the judges are interested in that. They're a lot more interested in the models than the display.

When it got down to the final paint judging, they had narrowed it down to four or five armies, and the group of five judges went around, as a group, back and forth between the finalists. I was trying to set up for a game, and they came by four or five times. And, by the final pass, they were picking up models and looking at the undersides of them, trying to make sure that the whole models were painted, even the bits not normally visible, and that the undersides of the models had been painted. (There's actually a case of a guy losing out on a painting contest where he had the most amazing eldar BFG ship, but had neglected to paint the underside at all, just leaving it black, and that cost him the award).

It really was that close. And Brandon really pushed me hard to compete this year. I was still going back and adding in more details, more freehand work, and more weathering the day before the con. Seeing this thread, I knew that I had to step up my work, and being pushed like that is a good way to expand one's abilities.

Pictures are one thing, but seeing the models in person, you get such a better idea for them. Looking at GMM's display, I kept finding more and more neat stuff that was hidden in there. It really is an awesome job, with a great theme to boot. You can only ever spot so much in the photos, but I think I went back and checked out this board three or four times that day, and saw something new each time.

There is no need to be defensive. I would not let alone could not "hire a lawyer."

But I will say, and I know you didn't mean it as a slight or as an attack so don't worry, as this is my job I resent the implication that there were unpainted parts on the army. Just wanted to make that clear. I don't want anyone thinking I don't finish models

Oh good lord, I'm not saying you didn't finish the models. I have no idea - I didn't look under Tina's skirt... I'm just saying, that by the final pass, the judges were looking for anything to make the distinction, and they were looking under my models. I don't want any misunderstanding - I am in no way putting your work down, I have the utmost respect for you and your work over the last two years is what drove me to do the army I did.

I've been a paint judge at Adepticon, and it's sooo hard to make those final choices. There are 250 entries, and even to narrow it down to five 'bests' is hard, let alone choosing just one. It's a really hard job, and (speaking on behalf of judges) no matter who you pick, someone is going to think another army should have won.

I saw this in person---and got to meet Brandon at Adepticon. Hard to say which one I was more impressed by---Brandon's character/personality or his Orks! Just a really cool/laid back guy with a jaw dropping army/display.

Simply astounding work dude----your pictures don't begin to do your work justice.

I loved it before, and I love it now. I'm still bummed that you didn't include Ironbar Bassey (the guy from Beyond Thunderdome with a doll bosspole), but this army is still incredible.

AoE - Very glad I got to meet you as well. Tell your teammates I said hi as well, they seemed like real stand up guys. I was also very impressed with your display!

Phenomenal work! Just jaw-dropping!

(and I remember sneaking in to see the original Mad Maxx movie when I was 16 years old... we had no idea what it was, it was double billed with "The Postman Always Rings Twice"... we were completely blown away & were suckers for the whole series of movies)

So, your army brings back all kinds of really good memories of my mis-spent youth... thank you!

The Pictures did absolutely nothing for this amazing army, you did amazing and it was awesome seeing it in person.
