Ignoring everything that I and anybody else had said before, when all is said and done, English ale is best. I can guarentee it, I've just been down the pub to test some and I can assure you it was excellent!

This has been my go-to beer for the past year and some. It's really just great stuff. It drinks light enough that you can get just gooned on it, but at the same time it's got a really smooth flavour and a great aftertaste that you can just sit there and sip away at when you're just up for an evening brew after dinner. Though I agree with you Englishmen. English Ale is the peak of all brews. I have a healthy love for Wychwood Brewery and their tasty Hobgoblin label.

Whilst Broadside is good stuff, I think you'll find it's probably the Tequila chasers that are doing most of the kicking!
Yeah but the Broadside gets a few good boots in as well!

Not a big fan of chocolate flavoured beers but I do like a decent stout. Adnams do a great one called Oyster stout but I think they only do it in the Autumn/Winter months. Much better than Guiness.

Most stouts are. Apparently, if you go to Ireland it undergoes some kind of magical apotheosis into a decent stout. I've never been, so I cannot confirm this. As to Youngs Double Choc, I believe it's not artificially flavoured with chocolate, it just has a subtle chocolatey after taste. My better half and I have recently been enjoying a beer called Bitter and Twisted, lovely if you like something with a bit of fight to it. I cannot remember the brewery, I'm afraid. Bath Ales are marvellous too, particularly the Bath Gem.

I seem to recall my local having one or two of the bath ales in and they were pretty good. We'll see what next weekends beer festival brings!

I enjoy nearly all types of Beer, though the only one i have come across that I just could not enjoy is Oatmeal Stout.
I honestly do not understand this pissing contest over whether English beer is better than German beer.. It's two completely different types of beer!!
I will agree that the English/British Isles make the best Ales and Stouts. But, Germany, IMO makes the best Lagers and Weizenbier. The only thing we Americans can even compare to England and Germany, as far as beer is concerned, is in the Microbrew world.
When Im home in the states, I enjoy Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen.
Though, TBH, most often I am drinking some Glenlivet, or Glenmorangie single malt of various age.

I expect a full and comprehensive report on all beers of quality discovered. It is your duty as a real ale drinker!
@Ensis Ferrae
Have you ever tried Geuze (is that spelt correctly?)? It's popular in Belgium, but as far as I can tell it tastes like acid and pain. It's the one type of beer I just cannot enjoy.
+1 on the fine single malts, there. Have you drank Laphroaig at all? It's good stuff.

I havent had much, if any Belgian stuff over here (although i am only about 3 hours from the border).. sounds like a good one to avoid, unless im already lit up. There is only one place that I have even seen Laphroaig, but next time i'm there, I may have to try it. There was a 24 year old Glenlivet that I was tempted by, but at 27 Euro for 2cl of it.. its kind of hard to justify.

Yeah, if you're gonna get some of the really mature stuff you might as well go nuts and buy a bottle. Keep it for special man and whisky moments at home.
You should try geuze once. Just to see. It's a unique experience.

Ah yes! Now we are onto my next favourite tipple - whiskey! It's got to be Scottish malt. Glenmorangie and Glenlivet will always be favourits. I favour slightly sweeter whiskey (not a big fan of the heavily smokey/peaty ones) Favourite is without doubt Jura. Like Old Pultney (slightly salty), Yamazaki (Japanese - yes it's VERY good) 12 year old, Tomintoul, Auchentoshan, Glenfiddich is usually pretty good too. Tried many. Would one day like to try some from one of those bottles that cost thousands of pounds to see if it is any better than the stuff that costs about £30 a bottle. The one problem I have had over the last few years is I one day foolishly said to my wife "try some whiskey". Sadly she really liked it so now it disappears twice as fast!

Speaking of Whiskey, I had an awesome maple whiskey from Quebec called "Sortilege" Was $70.00 for a 2'6, but it was the best bottle of Canadian Whiskey I've ever had. Most of the stuff we make is warm enough to melt ice off your damn driveway in winter, so it was a nice change to find a good smooth sipping whiskey. Really awesome stuff.
