Perhaps he has, and it lies outside the realm of the corpse god?

This army is incredible, there's really not much I'd change about it even if I had the skill to do so. Great work.

@Chrysis: Hehehe, I get this comment a lot. Pre-Heresy, the Emperor's Children were the only legion who were all allowed to wear the Aquila. However, it was occasionally also awarded to noted heroes of other legions as well, heh. And as the bloke on the Forgeworld Facebook page said in regards to Rashidi when I posted him there: "He looks like a noted hero to me!"

@BunkerBob: Yeah, I like to believe that Ahriman at least is still loyal, and looking for that one answer... whether or not he actually ever finds it, who knows. As for my own army, they're also still loyal! Even if they are wearing the post-heresy colours and still have Rubricae... ¬_¬

@DemetriDominov: Thank you very much!

Ah, I was unaware of there being background that indicated it was also treated as something akin to a medal. Although in retrospect it makes sense given it was a huge honour for an entire legion to be allowed to wear it. And I'd agree, if he qualified for a Contemptor he almost certainly qualified for a medal as well.

I've been meaning to start some Heresy-era Thousand Sons as well, so I've been keeping an eye on the thread. Haven't got any further than buying a set of Mk2 Assault Marines and a Special Weapons clampack. Maybe I'll actually start soon, although the Assault Marines need a lot of cleaning, especially in the jump pack intakes and exhausts.

Nice painting, but unless I'm mistaken weren't the Emperor's Children the only ones allowed to wear the Aquilla pre-heresy?

You're somewhat mistaken.

Pre-Heresy, the Emperor's Children were the only Space Marine Legion allowed to wear it as a whole, en masse as it were.

Other Space Marine Legions were allowed to award it use for exceptional acts of bravery and such.

On top of that, I think the Imperial Army used it wherever and whenever it wanted...

EDIT:

Ninja'd by many, days in advance!

@Chrysis: No worries! And you should totally start a Heresy-era Sons army, there needs to be more of us. I've got a couple of sets of MkIV tacticals and a set of MkV assault jumpers that I need to customise up and paint at some stage - so many projects, so little time, heh. Do you watch my WIP thread as well? Might give you some more ideas.

Will be interesting to see what you do with your guys!

@Alpharius: Muahaha, too slow!

It's probably going to be a while before the Heresy marines get any work done. Some of the Jump Packs have the exhausts/intakes pretty badly cast, so I have to try and chip blobs of resin out without wrecking the fans. And with the new Chaos codex on the horizon and Forgeworld actually putting out Heresy era books there's a feeling that I should wait and see how things turn out before committing.

I've got an Ahriman to put together and paint for my modern Sons army, so he'll probably be the next related project.

The other difficulty is that I get all motivated while I'm at work, but when I get home it all vanishes in the face of having to cook dinner and do housework.

If you got 'em from Forgeworld, maybe give 'em a call and see if you can get replacements? Forgeworld are usually pretty good with that. But yeah, I definitely hear you on the new Chaos 'dex and the Heresy 'dexes thing. I'm also waiting to see how those turn out, hehe. I've been putting off converting up a box of Grey Knight terminators for my pre-heresy boys for months just so I can see what sort of weapons Termis will get in the new Chaos 'dex - and now the Heresy 'dex as well, heh. I get the feeling those poor termis won't get touched for a good long time.

Ahriman's a very nice model! But I definitely recommend pinning his staff hand to his arm - the number of times my Ahriman model's had his staff hand come off his arm... including at Games Day last year for my Armies on Parade board then. D: Hooray for staff with emergency superglue!

Also totally sympathise with the motivation thing. Right now, I'm in that "I've just finished a project, and have no idea what to start working on next" phase, agh. So many projects, so little time!

It's been so long since I ordered them that I wouldn't feel entirely right going and asking for replacements. I gave them a quick once over when I got them, but didn't even get around to washing mold release off for several months at which point I actually gave them a closer look. It's then been another several months, so we're probably looking at close to half a year. I can make them work, I just need to get around to it.

Ahriman has his staff pinned, and his head for good measure. Although the head may have actually made things worse, as I'm not terribly good at getting those things lined up properly. Arm is lined up fine though. Summer is winding up, so it's starting to be more tolerable temperatures and it should be easier to get motivated to do some work.

Not Thousand Sons, alas, but I figured I'd post this guy here anyway since I've been too busy lately to work on my Sons. :(

So here, have a Dark Vengeance Chaplain for now! I'm quite pleased with how he turned out, especially the blending on the green and white on the cloak. Also used a wet palette for the first time on the smoke.

This guy belongs to a friend, I asked to paint him 'cause I think it's a nifty model, he agreed, and gave me the Chaos Lord from the DV set in return. Win!

Classes finish this week, so hopefully I should be able to get some Sons done soon!

The back part of the cape is indeed very nice. Like the green .

Only thing I think that the smoke should be more be shaded with grey then blue. Makes it a bit more different from the shoulders too.

But solid paint job!

Hot damn, it's been a long time since I updated this thread. Many apologies for the radio silence! Life got in the way for a while there.

Anyway, here's of my latest completed models: my Chaos Lord that I got in return for painting the previous Chaplain. I made the base out of scrap sprue and resin, then filled it out with greenstuff. Man, he was a fiddly bastard to paint!

I should have some more finished stuff to show soon!

Some more finished models, finally! Tactical Squad Nouri, led by my customised 25th Anniversary special edition model.

I'm really pleased with the flag - it'll make a nice objective marker or something like that! The IV on it is for the Fourth Fellowship.

This model was actually suffering a fair bit of mould slip in certain areas - I basically had to re-sculpt almost half the plasma pistol muzzle with greenstuff to fix it up.

One day I'll figure out how to adjust my camera settings so the whites don't come out quite so bright... -_- Anyway! Let me know what you think!

Superb mate, love the 25th Anniversary model. The DV lord is such a busy model in terms of sculpting and not to my tastes but you've given him a wicked paintjob!

Thank you! And yeah, man, I agree with the DV Chaos Lord being a really busy model! It was a definite challenge to paint halfway decently, heh.

Great work. The reds are really rich while the white is very crisp. Love them.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

@bubber: Thank you very much! The red takes a lot of layers to get looking like that, and white's just painful to paint no matter what, so it's good to know it's all worth the effort!

Finally got my scouts and sniper scouts finished as well, along with my Scout Master Jabari.

Scout Bolter squad, led by Jabari.

Scout Sniper squad.

I'm really pleased with how the faces and hair turned out for these guys, especially since I haven't painted hair/skin before these models! Quite a learning experience, heh.

Since Jabari's an Athenaean discipline psyker in my army fluff, he got a Grey Knights librarian head. And since he's the scout master, I gave him a spare sniper rifle slung over his back, and replaced the regular scouts knife blade with a Grey Knights power sword blade. I sculpted the bandoleer across his chest from greenstuff, and stuck some spare grenades and bits on it. Pretty pleased with how he turned out!

And from this angle, his power sword looks like a lightsabre.

As always, comments and feedback are very welcome!

What color paints do you use for the dusky skintone? Like for the sniper aiming his gun upward, as an example. I am terrible judging skintone paints for non-caucasian people and am really interested in making my other armies more ethnically diverse.

This stuff is all really great.

@SRSFACE: Thank you! As far as I remember, those somewhat darker guys I started off with a base of Doombull Brown, followed by Bestial Brown, then Ratskin Flesh, then a wash of Gryphone Sepia (or Seraphim Sepia, whatever they're calling it these days) to bring out the recesses. Then I carefully highlighted the raised areas with a bit more Ratskin Flesh.

I've still got some more scouts for my Landspeeder Storm that I need to finish painting - would you be interested in me doing a step by step for them, for different skin tones?
