Ha, I started DE as my first army. It may not have been the best choice, but feth it, they're really fun

For Dark Angels I loved thier fluff and they look of them.I don't play them that much since they kinda are dated compared to my pride and joy my DE.I loved the look of them and then I started reading thier fluff which drew me in more. Then I saw how they played and I fell in love. Plus my local group have made thier armies fluff have my army in it. I don't know if anyone wants me to tell.

Tyranids. There are a number of factors that draw me to them, but I'll simply list the top reasons.
I've always been interested in science fiction, especially the “what's out there?” aspect of it. Tyranids are pretty much the most alien race in 40K.
Another reason I like them is the fact that from 5 to 11 I lived near the gulf coast of Florida. I spent much of my time on the beaches there, resulting in my fascination with crustaceans... which Tyranids remind me of. Lastly, as much as I enjoy the "Alien" movie franchise, Ilike the design of the Tyranids better now, than I did when they more closely followed H.R. Giegers design.

Chose Imperial Guard mainly because of the very 'human' feel of the army. They're not armored-super soldiers or aliens, they're regular Joes doing the dirty work of smashing faces.

Not to mention they've got the best armor selection in the game.

Tyranids. I remember reading the 3rd edition Nid codex. There was a bit of fluff that was describing how silent a Tyranid assault was. I thought that would be a terrifying aspect if I were a guardsman fighting off a Tyranid assault. Just a silent, unrelenting horde, that couldnt be bargained or reasoned with. They dont care about who you are, or what you are, and they will end your life in the same way we as humans would squash an ant.

Thats a complicated issue for me. When I first started it was just Chaos, I loved it. It looked good, and it was something away from vanilla marines.

But then I got out for a few years, and inevitably slipped back into 40k, and now I'm running 5 armies. I think its based upon taste, and design. I like armies that have unique modelling involved, and I appreciate it wayyyy more than the gaming aspect. Dont get me wrong, Gaming is fun, but modelling is my passion.

I have to admit, Chaos is still my favorite. Its just so appealing to what I enjoy. Tau is a close second though haha

Each of my armies fits an aspect of my personality, or where I was at the time.

My CSM are renegades fighting for something to believe in
SM are crusaders lost in the Eye of Terror
Nids were released from the center of a planet during the Badab War
My Necrons are going to be from the old age of Warhammer, and run on steam
and my Tau are covert city fighters.

Serpintine Heralds: CSM - 2500 points
Steel Cadre: Tau - 2000 Points
Blackpowder Legion: Crons - 2000 Points
Palanthine Purebloods: SM - 1000 Points
Hive Fleet Basilisk: Nids - 1000 Points
301st Dragonborn: IG - 500 Points

Nice and does your Chaos have a theme? I only ask because I might start a chaos legion and I want to know a possible theme

Iron Warriors are good IMHO. Khorne Berserkers too, but a fully Khorne themed army, like with Khorne Daemon weapons, doesn't seem to be popular or competitive.

Yeah it would probably be god specific, but I am going to wait for the new codex to see if you get nice things for doing a special legion

After reading a lot of black library books and playing a heap of Dawn of War, I knew I would have to collect some kind of Imperial army. If only to mention that "The Emperor Protects" whenever I make a saving throw roll. It's more than just that though, the over-zealous attitude of Imperial armies is one of the most appealing things to me in 40k.

I eventually settled on GKs because they are new and the plastic kits are simply amazing. Both the power armour and terminator armour kits are my favourite current kits, an absolute joy to both model and paint.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

Haha I had similar thoughts. Decided to go with (non-metallic) grey for their armour, picking out the details with silver and gold. And bright blue force weapons. I love power/force weapons. Especially hammers.
I only just started this GK army so I'm still painting my first 5 Terminators and 5 Strike Squad Knights.

Tell me, do you paint power weapons with the same designed as the GK force weapons, like withn the reflective surfaces? Or do you just panit the blades of PW silver. When I say PWs, I mean just standard Power Swords and Lightning Claws and stuff.

And just a quick question, but do you use a Vindicare? If so, how do you paint him? I don't exactly love the Robo-cop thing they have normally

I painted my Vindicare (the model aiming down the Exitus Rifle) Chaos Blqack spray. The grip on the underside of the Rifle is Mythril Silver, as is his visor. The lense on the visor is Blood Red and the skull at the bottom of his foot is Skull White followed by Desert Yellow wash. Other than that, he is pure balck, and very hard to see. Your opponent is sure to miss and overlook him.

Problem is, that in my first game, I fired off 1 shot 1st turn, wrecking a Chaos Predator. Thebn I forgot about him untill turn 4! Where he proceded to remove Abbaddon's 4++, and then turn 5 he shot him with a Turbo penetrator, bringing him to 1 wound. Game ends there, though I am sure a Hellfire round would have ended him, and Abbaddon was his last model!

A mix of things.

First and foremost, the look of the army. Sisters of Battle, aside from being an entirely female army - I even have some proxies I use as Crusaders and Jacobus in place of the normal minis - also have aesthetics that I like, along with the whole theme of being holy warriors that I often enjoy.

The next thing I looked for was the playstyle. The Sisters of Battle, well, the way I play them seemed to work just fine at first. The White Dwarf Codex doesn't seem to work as well for me, unfortunately, but I probably just need more playtime with it.

The fluff came next. The Inquisition was too evil for me, so I didn't include any Inquisition units in my army - until I saw the Sister Hospitaler model. The holy warrior theme applies to the fluff as well, which was a strong point for me. At the time, I was unaware of how fanatical Sisters of Battle are, by which I mean their willingness to commit horrible acts to get at the heretics they're after. However, with a little bit of custom fluff magic, that was remedied as far as my own Sisters of Battle were concerned.

Effectiveness in gameplay is probably very low on my list. Though I enjoy winning, I only play against one opponent, who isn't a WAAC-type person, or even a normal powergamer, so I can make fun lists without fear of getting massacred.

The community's perception of the army also factors in for me. Even though I haven't played at a store in years, I don't want to be thought of as a person who chooses the most powerful army in order to win games with ease. If Sisters of Battle became overpowered, I'd probably enjoy them less and get discouraged from playing them, just knowing what people would be saying about the people who play them - like we've seen with Grey Knights players.

Deadshot: I paint the blades of the Force weapons bright blue, so they are not metallic at all (apart from the grips/handles). I'm using wetbrushing to go from Regal Blue->Ultramarine Blue->Ice Blue

Squig: I don't (yet) have a vindicare.

Dunwich- Am I wrong when I say Vindicares are the most badass of all assassins?

Pouncey- I have to disagree. The inquisitions "evil in the name of good" theme is the main thing that draws me to the =I=

Then you should like almost every army.. they all do "evil" in pursuit of their "good." There many in the chaos camp who belive they are allowing freedom of expression and creativity.

The enemy of my enemy is a bastard so lets kill him too.
