As necrons i would want ymgarals; they're great CC potential and a pretty big distraction unit, and most importantly........

OMG SOMETHING HIGHER THAN I2!!!!!

For my armies:

Tau: Farseer. No question. Psychic defense and great force multiplier. (mmm.... Firewarriors with Guide)

Dark Eldar: I'm tempted to also say a Farseer, they're just so good. But, I'd say probably TH/SS termies or Lychguard for some survivability

Or maybe it's not empty and has a throw-away unit inside that they will have to assault after the transport is rollaed.
Or maybe some other unit that's sitting in front of all their guns or off away from an objective.
There's so many instances where he won't go where you want him to if your opponent thinks a little. And there are more instances where you can get him to go where you want him to by thinking a little.

As for ICs attatching to Snikrot.... frankly I disagree with that ruling and it's the beardiest RAW, anti-RAI trick in the codex.

So you are playing peculiar list and wishing for something to make it stronger. You have limited the number of threats and weapons you could have by paying for overpriced Nobz with no invul save, unless you take a character that you allow to be manipulated. You refuse to use the rules of the game to your advantage and insist on running an unorthodox and fragile list. The Ork Codex does not need Stormsheilds. Your underpowered list and dubious play style needs Stormsheilds.

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

Blood Angels have what all Eldar players using Banshees need: durable, fast, assault vehicle, transport.

For every other army, Farseers.

Now, for the next thread, "If you could inflict a unit upon another army that would be mandatory..." so I can get rid of my Fast Attack section.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

For my Blood Angels, the Royal Court. Night fighting for the enemy. Possibly Lords with Mindshackle Scarabs and Warscythes in some footslooging/mechanized squads. Too bad Crypteks and Lords cannot take jump packs .

For the Necrons, Farseers/Eldrad because duh, psychic defense and the whole buff/debuff thing meshes well with the Necrons.

Deployment zone does not necessitate deffrolla range.

And there are more instances where you can get him to go where you want him to by thinking a little.

Aside from deployment, you cannot choose where he is unless there are no enemy units on the table.

So you are playing peculiar list and wishing for something to make it stronger.

Given the nature and light-heartedness of this thread; yes.

You have limited the number of threats and weapons you could have by paying for overpriced Nobz with no invul save, unless you take a character that you allow to be manipulated.

My point is the trade-off is not worth it.

You refuse to use the rules of the game to your advantage and insist on running an unorthodox and fragile list.

This is a somewhat subjective area. Shouldn't an internally balanced codex provide an equally viable list regardless of unit selection?

The Ork Codex does not need Stormsheilds.

Never said it did.

Your underpowered list and dubious play style needs Stormsheilds.

See point about internal balance.

Would Stormshields on meganobs be balanced? Probably not, unless they costed around 20 points per model. A 5+ inv. save without relying on possibly the game's biggest liability might be.

No, but having 3 Deffrollas in your deployment zone certainly increases your Deffrolla Range.
Aside from deployment, you cannot choose where he is unless there are no enemy units on the table.
If an empty Drop Pod tries to deter the Mad Dok and his Boyz, I usually take it out with a different BW before I attempt to move his.
Shouldn't an internally balanced codex provide an equally viable list regardless of unit selection?
No. There should be a use for all units in the Codex, especially when used in conjunction with other units. There is nothing balanced about running an all Grot list (sans HQ). There is nothing inherently balanced about running an all MegaNob list. Unit selection and list building is as vital as any table top aspect of the game, if not more so.
Would Stormshields on meganobs be balanced? Probably not, unless they costed around 20 points per model. A 5+ inv. save without relying on possibly the game's biggest liability might be.
The games biggest liability? I am sure there are others, but I am only certain that you and the opponents I use Grotsnik against seem to dislike him, but for very different reasons.

I think you may have missed the point of the thread, Jon. This is a wishlist thread, not a proposed rules thread. Of course he wants Storm Shields, MANz with a 3++ would be terrifyingly powerful. That doesn't mean that the Codex 'needs' them, or that they'd be balanced; just that he thinks they'd be cool.

Hell, I agree, MANz with Storm Shields WOULD be pretty cool. I'd cheerfully settle just for the abilty to give them cybork bodies, honestly.

You are right. I apologize to the forum for getting off track and to Dribble Joy for being provincial.

But I still say that Orks don't need nuthin' from no other Codex.

You should play a game as Orks or with them as allies and see how they do. Just make sure you play them as Orks, and you may be surprised.
