Come the weekend i'll be fully engaged in a 6th Edition readathon... If anything crops up that will drastically effect the campaign I'll be on it as soon as I can. In the meantime, if you spot anything that may contradict some of the stuff added to the campaign pack, just drop a post and let me know.

ta da for now dudes.

Okay so I'm a little ahead of my proposed schedule with regards to whats happening with 6th edition.

I'm considering, and very likely to drop the planetstrike game, in favour of a game with points puchased bastions and buildings.

In theory this means a set points value for both armies with an extra ration of points which will be filled by either
1 - Defensive terrain
2 - More units
Obviously 1 or 2 will be dictated by the narrative your force is involved in.

When the actual reality of 6th hits this will be refined but an instant positive is that the necessity to have the planetstrike expansion is eliminated and therefore cost and stuff for competitors who don't currently own it is reduced and the basis of the game involving attacking an established defensive position will remain.

Any thoughts?

Will we know what the narrative is.in advance so we can plan.our lists accordingly, or will it be pretty standard stuff so do what we do?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Or, more.to the point, as a DE player will the narrative focus me on more attacking roles, reducing any need for me to buy terrain pieces (i probably will have terrain, though given the amount I need.to buy for everything.else that may take a back seat over.actual de models)

As far as the narrative goes no, because its likely to change depending upon the results of the previous round and the way that affects the continuing story. I'd recommend just going with what you like, maintaining your own feel for your force but keeping a balance between fluff and effectiveness!

As far a DE go though, and without giving anything away too much, plan your small skirmish force for attack and when the details for the second game are finalised (when planetstrike is dropped and new set up is decided) don't worry about fortifications or building. You and Nids will not be using them, you'll be attacking, which will means extra points. I've got the set up in my head ready for finalising next week once I clarify the logistics of the 6th ed rule book. It will be sorted very quickly.

On another note that we've previously discussed, you can take Eldar as allies in Apocalypse to get your points up, the new rules allow allies in all games but I'd recommend (from the DE perspective) sticking to just apocalypse for the campaign to keep the game as fluff tight as we can early doors. (I'll leave that to your discretion though Si)

@ G-09: What can I say?! Lol. Can I check the position on allies and mercs? Allies allow 1 unit of HQ, troops, elites, fs & HS, though will the Mercs allow me to add to that? Or will you do it in such a way that allies and mercs have to be different races?

@Philthesquid - in the top menu box, click your username. There's then a box that says "edit info" or something like that. At the bottom is a signature box, add whatever you want there. Be prepared to have enter HTML code if you want it to appear short though!

The mercs are completely seperate to force org Si. They are a bonus unit paid for by the task force and used by individuals in the task force who may need extra help or to achieve a special goal. Their use should by no means be planned for or incorporated into any lists and stuff.

I've had a good look at the allies matrix online (as my book hasn't arrived yet) and i'm not too pleased at where it leaves things. I've not probs with Eldar/Dark Eldar but some of its just daft. I'd rather make my own allies matrix and add it to the campaign pack. As for the disposition of those allies as you've specified, then it seems fine to follow hq, troop, elite, heav. For the Apoc game i'm happy for this to be increased though as in such a large scale game restricting to one of each unit type seems a bit tight!

Seems its going to take me a week or two before I can update the pack to reflect the 6th edition changes. Bare with me. In the mean time I have made a start on the Mercenary Data Sheets. Below are two examples of the data sheets and what can be expected from the myriad merc-forces we hope to employ!

Hopefully they are self explanatory. The data sheets include weapon options and details of the special missions that you may or may not endeavor to complete.

The first example shows the Deathwatch Sternguard, pictured above somewhere. The unit cost is what it would cost to field the unit in a regular game, I've included this only in the event that the miniatures are used in the Apoc game to aid somebody in reaching 4k. The BP cost equates to 1BP per 20 points (always rounding up). The bonus points will be deducted from the task force total should you choose to employ a merc force. If you do the special missions give you the opportunity to recoup some or all of the points spent. The second image is a data sheet created for the Sublime Child. This unit is not represented by a mini, simply by the orbital bombardment weapon from the C:SM, making life much easier for me. I've had to take an educated guess at the cost for units that aren't specifically point based. Some mercs, will not have as much detail on the data sheet, such as the proposed Legion of the Damned. This is because they are only available to C:SM forces who will have the relevant rules in their codex.

Hopefully these help to explain further the system in place for mercs!

Progress Report...

At the time of writing this list we have 23 players on the list for potential involvement. This is great, since I had initially targeted 20 players. Thanks to all who have preliminary signed up.

NOW TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

If you're still lurking, feel free to drop a post and get involved. The more the thread grows the greater attendance and the better a weekend we will all have so feel free to start throwing pics of your projects and the odd army list at the thread.

If you've made enquiries earlier in the thread and are still watching let me know what your plans are... I'll be hounding you to attend in the coming months anyway.

We need Necrons! Maybe some more Orks and DE too. We can get by with 23 players and I'm confident we'll have a great time, but lets see if we can't beef up the weaker task forces before we decide to pick on the singlees!

Final Draft of the Campaign Pack will be coming soon, updated to incorporate the much talked about 6th Edition and some clarification here and there.

Thanks dudes.

Ta da for now.

Hi all, thought I would share my Eldar terrain as it is so far, which I will bring along assuming I can make it.

My Eldar landing pad - I'm thinking to add a "control panel" to switch between modes - any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

My Eldar Waygates - I've got 4 more underway which are taller and thinner.

My rotating AA turret - only rotates around the guns are fixed but otherwise pretty chuffed

My objective markers - amazing what you can do with some bottle tops, polystyrene and brown paint

A plaza - not sure whether to add anything more to this or just finish painitng it

A webway portal, what no Eldar player should be without - it'll easily fit a falcon in so all is good

I'll re-post when I've finished these.

Looking good Farseer, the Waygates are great and the pad has nice curves. Look forward to seeing more of these post production.

Hi Geordie

Have read the updated pack and can't wait, should hear shortly about December so will let you know. For the final game, what happens if we don;t have a complete force organisation chart, currently the only thing I have missing is 1 Elite choice, otherwise I'm fine with the 2 HQ, 6 troops, 3 FA and 3 HS.

Cheers

Nothing really. I've thrown in it just to ensure that there is a semblance of organisation to each force rather than the straight apocalypse rules which would let you use anything and everything. It's basically to avoid 4k worth of Land Raiders taking to the field and other such crazy apocalypse inspired nonsense. (It may look cool but it can't be all that fun for your opponent to see almost 16 Land Raiders of various patterns heading towards your inadequately under melta armed troop line). Saying that though, once the original force org is complete you can have as many Land Raiders as you want...

I'm not a Land Raider Basher, I'll be using them, they're just an example!

1 elite slot left for the Eldar, what you running in the other two slots right now?

Currently I've got 6 dragons who go in a falcon and a full squad of scorps. I'm thinking of some banshees but not having assault ramps on Eldar vehicles makes them a bit pointless at the moment. I've got over 4k at the moment so would be happy to take part in a larger game if you're short of players.

Feel free to bring as much as you feel you want. As long as you have a 4k list that adheres to the force org anything above and beyond can be arranged before the battle with your opponents and allies.

The obligatory fire dragon suicide melta squad... can't go wrong with that. Have you though about Warp Spiders, I always find them a pain in the butt! Don't forget, There are FW Eldar Aspect Warriors too, the Spectres? I think they have jump or jet packs.

Banshees could be quite good without an assault vehicle though, they get fleet, and can then charge 2d6... I know it all comes down to dice rolls but thats pretty fast. Plus they scream like bitches and make everybody I1... not good for me!

Would it not be an option for you to have a DE ally and bring your banshees out of their webway portals? Would that be allowed?

I'm not sure the allies rules stretch to this sort of thing. Just off the top of my head, if I take Lysander my Imp Fists become Stubborn, that doesn't mean my allies do. I can't drop a group of Imp Guard Vets in my big yellow Drop Pod nor put my Tac Marines in a Valkyrie. That's my understanding anyway.

I need to check the wording, though the rule book does say (depending on level of alliance) that special rules / powers carry over. Need to check if that applies to equipment too
