Yodhrin wrote:I tried really hard to like it, but the issue for me is that it wasn't the original Warhammer Online. I know that one never got off the ground, but it was so much more what I wanted conceptually(a proper sandboxy MMO based on WHFRP? yurs puleez) that the half DAoC, half WoW-clone, rushed-out-the-door mess that was WAR just never grabbed me.
This is true for me as well, the prior (never made it even remotely to light) version of Warhammer online was a very different beast than what we eventually got. i cant say i'm surprised how it ended up, investors all get sold these with WOW as an example so its no small coincidence a lot of MMO's end up with mroe than a hint of WOW about them.
It was cool to see the sights though it had some great racial starting areas, some of the best 0-20 i have seen.
a shame

This is astonishing. GW literally just gave the axe to an entire MMO subscription base over a license? As in total termination of service? I didn't realize they parceled out their licenses to such an extent that they could terminate a game's operation entirely.
What kind of clauses were they operating is what I'm wondering.
I agree that I wasn't too impressed by the software itself, but this makes me skeptical about future Warhammer licensed MMOs.

One of my first exposures to the WHFB universe, actually.
Lots of issues as a game, but had great art design. I think of these Bright Wizards every time I pull out an Empire List with Lore of Fire.

WAR was awesome, and I will miss it, got it day one. The glitches are what killed it though, white lions being able to drag you out through a keep door, squig pathing issues.
First game Ive ever seen to make tanks feared in PVP though, my chosen stalked Nordenwatch like a demigod.... those were the days...

Big orc warboss with a goblin shaman on his shoulder. Pretty neat, pose is a bit static, but pretty cool overall.

Oh man, I've never seen this figure before. What do you search for on ebay to find it?

You put a lot of work into your character then they wipe the servers 2 years later when the money isn't there anymore.

I'll probably grab the mini, and who knows, maybe sign up to play the MMO for a bit.

Good. I'm glad it's gone. I had high hopes for it and even got the collector's edition. But it stunk.
Completely unbalanced classes, and terrible stealth mechanics were amongst the many things I hated about this game.
The only thing that's unfortunate is it had some wonderful art assets.
