ok so a Vanguard hammer unit, sheild, more custom colours than others with stronger use of red. based on a ruined city where desertification has taken place. old bolt pistol on floor, tank tracks, a rhino door ruined and such.

A assault Sgt, axe, sheild, beaky helmet and bitmore simple basing,

bike for most like a chaooter master.

and a base incorporating a dead guardsmen gear and rubble from wrecked tank track.

and some badd images of what will in eend be a chaplain but only one arm so far, bolt pistol, crrux termius on the shoulder rimmed in red,

They are really starting to look the business lol that one with Hammer and shield looks quite intimidating. its small pity that Chaos can't have them kind of gear despite being space marines that abandoned their chapters to join up, so in theory they would take their own weapons to go join up.

the mostly Black and red Helmets do help, i know im not going the traditional white shoulder plates but darker colors look good.

yeah, i can see why no land speeders, there very complex machines, requiring spechalist parts etc.

but yeaah hammers, and such recently turned could being razorbacks etc.

i have another with white helmets and details in the works, bit different.

Extremely hard, an all white army.....
Noooope.

With washed on layers it can work better but getting smooth, clean and chrisp white is not fun.
I can see why some go a parchment colour vs white.

I'm really digging your color scheme here. Well done.

While the colors are well done, and the weathering, especially the mud on the boots look fantastic, they seem a bit flat to me. A little shading and highlight on these and they'll look even better!

Keep it up!

Not too hard to add some more shades to it, abit of paler sand and darker patch's of mud here and there.
Thank you, you have some good stuff too, the nice muted yellow impirial fists.

That gold color looks fantastic! Is that a blend or a specific brand of paint?

Also, are you willing to reveal your weathering secrets, specifically for the muddy boots?? Looks like super-thick XV-88 or something!

Sure, my muddy boots are gw argellian earth (technical)used very sparingly , just small bit in a brush, so the base colour is not obscured too much, thin layers. Too thick its natural cracking property starts to work too well. Thin you only get minor like dried on mud or dirt, the thicker the largwer the cracks.

Aim was dusty look, the planet once verdent now reduced to lifeless sand.

My gold on weapons you mean?
Its army painter metallics.
I used a base layer of plain gw black, then gun metal, or lighter plate metal.
Then several layers of greedy gold. Final layer is army painter dark tone wash.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ands like your more muted spacehulk termies, they look nice in that slightly darker red.

The gold on that bike and on the vanguard look bright and really stands out. Looks completely different from the GW metallics -- way brighter and more eye catching. Gotta add some of those army painter metallics to my arsenal.

Boots look more muddy than dusty, but look fantastic no less. Maybe some drybrushing with a tan or light brown might get the effect you're looking for. Either way, I'm really getting amped about these Astra Militarum models and sticking them on rainy, muddy terrain with bases and weathering to match. Certainly gonna use that mud technique. Looks great!

The gold is pretty thick, so just keep that in mind when you use it. I will admit there was flash involved. Nice strong pigment though

First layer looks OK but 2nd or 3rd looks great. Evens out done right to a nice flat even bright gold.

I have a few browns, from sandy to dark mud so I'm going to try that to bring a more sandy look.

It works well just practice the thickness you eant on some scrap or such excess bits, its very easy to blob too much on and undo all your fine work. I found that to my peril. Only fair to pass on what I learnt.

yeah, my Bling Templers as once known have caused me to quite refine gold to a good level.

might try adding another gold to vary the colour if i want but need more paint for that,

I really like the commissar. I myself need to work a bit on layering, though I think this model turned out great.

I am excited to see progress on those heavy weapons teams. Good looking basing.

Commissar was a great model to paint too, fitted next to perfect, and once I found somthung tiny, so much lovely details.

The auto cannon took a while, complex but worth it.
