A bit more progress on these guys...

Last 3 snipers and Telion...

More of my crack at DPM, British Army camo...

Nearly completed now, I've gone back over the other squads and added some brown splooge to their face paint and weapons and a little bit of tidying up in general. I've also started my Stormraven mwhahahahha, doing some basic conversions on it (as I couldn't just build it stock), more on that soon....

I don't get it the last few are just pictures of some newspaper with a few paint pots in the background!

Seriously though I really like the camo on the scouts. Nice job on the capes especially. I agree with you about scouts being dressed for their more covert role, I suppose the challenge is making them still fit in with the look of the wider force.

Good job Randy!

Thanks a lot. they've been fun to do. They are all finished now and I plan to add the finishing touches to Telion today..built my Stormraven too...pics on that to follow the completed 10th Co. Task Force pics..

I've actually just getting over 2 days of 40k as I have some rare time to waste ATM. Played my last 1k game for our Escalation League and spectated the other and the next day we had 1k IG allied with 1k of Tau (obviously Gue'va or whatever the foul alien sympathisers are called) against a BA 2k force. All the games were good and some BattReps will follow...

Awww yisss! I've been looking forward to reading the rest of those battle reports they've been really well written so far. I'm enjoying the narrative side of it.

Will you post another link to it here when it's been updated?

Yeppo, don't hold your breath or anything but some more are incoming!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here are the completed 10th Co. Task Force pics!

Whole group shot..organised as 5 dudes with BP/CCW in Storm, 10 Snipers with Telion and 5 bolters guys..

Transported squad with Sarge's new BP and a shogun (for close encounters)...I added a brown to the weapon stripes and facepaint..

Snipers, also with new details and HB/bolter unit in rear..

Telion, to show his high status he's been painted with gold details whereas all the Scouts have dull silver chest eagles/skulls. He also has 2 blue shoulder pads rather than one.

I like his facing this way too instead of looking over his other shoulder as standard..

Camo cloak...

Pleased how this little lot has turned out, looking forward to getting their boots muddy(er) on the field of glory..

I've finished the build on my Raven and started tinkering with a Tack squad (No.5)....I want to finish my Stormwing and eventually my Company too....still a ways to go though...

C&C welcome!

Very nice looking lot of scouts. Good work on the camo. I like your Talion. He’s painted close enough to the rest of the boys to fit in, but is blinged out enough to be a SM HQ.

Nice stuff, that's a really cool looking little group.
Not sure when you'd use them all but having them and some ratlings holding a small pocket on a large table in Apocalypse has certainly got my narrative gently throbbing.

Thanks! Glad you like it. Yes I was trying to strike a bit of a balance between him being a cool infiltrating sniper and a Spez Mareeen Special Character in a game.

They only weigh in at 350ish points, dropping 5 guys takes them below 250 and creates the '10th Company Task Force' still, very doable for even 1.5k games and a nice theme..the 10th Co. rules aren't too bent either...They do lend themselves to a Narrative game/scenario really nicely, advanced forces calling for support which could DS or drive on etc......mmmmm scenarios.....

Wow, that is cheap, not looked at the new Codex yet.
The patented Field Marshal Mcstab tactic of bodies over bling.
Could make a mess of my MCs with so many snipers.

Those cloak patterns are outstanding.

The scouts seem so useful now that I almost question the need for tactical marines. Only the fluff anchor keeps me from sailing madly onwards...

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

Thanks! I think it went better than the originals I did about 10 years ago...(shudders at time elapse). Tacks can still get better Heavies and Specials but yes Scouts are at the best they've ever been, though watching my Tau friend (well player, he's not actually a Tau) delete Scouts with Marker Lights and Missile Pods makes me love power armour all the more..

So I recently had a bit of time off and this Stormraven started happening, spent a nice day watching 4 episodes of Greatest Tank Battles' and did the donkey work..

I decided to remount the weapons..I sawed the ACs right down..

And remounted them on the nose..

so that it to has a similar look to the existing Stormtalons of mine...

I mounted the displaced MM on the wings, I used the cowling for the daft turret thing to cover the weapon up, I went on the add part of the sawed ACs back to extend the length of them..

I filled the slots for the tabs of the turret and will create some hatch doors....

More on this soon!!

All the junk up top of the SR is the major problem with the kit IMHO. You going to keep the air scoop or ditch that? Without the turret up top, it’s going to look even worse.

I think the MM get lost a little under the wing. If you are extending them, it might be nice to have the muzzles sticking forward a bit.

Made in gb

I just left off all the top crap, makes it look much more aerodynamic. I know what you mean about the MM but I also like the sleeker lines gained by them being under wing mounted (and not jutting forwards) also the actual MM are tiny so there's not much to stick forwards.

I press moulded a normal 'U with skull' I use on all my vehicles (green blob) but then I remembered I have one of the big versions left so that would seem more fitting for such a prestigious craft..

Here it is mounted, added a scroll to the side hatch too.

I toyed with the idea of just using a Rhino hatch to cover the turret mounting but the ring is too big and it looks too obviously like a Rhino hatch...

Instead I covered it with a sheet of Plasticard and then made 2 interlocking panels of thicker Plasticard to simulate doors...bit off centre but it will do I think. I stuck the 'magna grapple' on top to cover the miissing scoop thing, will paint it too look like a beacon. It looks too teeny to hold a Dread anyway.

Neeeoooowwwwwwmmmmm, much more 'plane-like' and aerodynamic I think, I reversed the horizontal tail fin too to match the 'Talons and look quicker..

Undercoated...The idea of painting it seemed like hard work so I decided to try and continue to clear some of the boxes of crap I have lying around...so I started building Marines to finish the Company....there's only 30 to do......

More on that soon!

Good stuff, it's amazing how much indoor hobby stuff can get done during the "Great British Summer".
I'm particularly enjoying being able to paint for hours without a wet pallette due to the glorious sub zero temperature and having the sun constantly blocked by cloud means that I never have to worry about getting any real light glaring off my models and have perfect control with a pair of daylight bulbs!

I've done my Wall of Martyrs and some zombies for a commission.
Mainly been spending my hobby time culling the collection as I could really do with getting downstairs finished du ring the summer.
Warhammer fantasy scenery is slaying eBay right now as it's almost all been discontinued. The stuff with loads of skulls is selling really well and actually would look good with the new doors if a bit ott. Going super high fantasy will at least differentiate GW from any other systems and have a certain look to it.

I have just completed a Round 2 BatRep for our escalation league, BA vs FE 1k, here's a link to the BatRep thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/640921.page
There's 2 to come, my game vs the BA and FE (tau) look out for those to see my new 1k IG list in action.

Back in Marine land I decided I liked building the Stormraven so much I'd do some more building (rather than painting) and turned my attention to my Battle Company...

I've these 2 guys sitting around, the dude on the left is a refugee from my 4th Ed Command Squad, you used to be able to take over 5 guys and he was no.7 in the squad which had to be stripped down to 5 after the 5th Ed book happened, he gained a Power Sword (2nd Ed era) and became a swap in Sarge for when I wanted to beef up a Tack squad. The other guy is one of my favourite marines I've done. He was another swap in Sarge for when a Power Fist was called for (Nids, other marines etc) but as they're so expensive it's nice to not have to run it too when I don't think I'll get much fisting in (Tau). Both are now being used to command squads full time..

I've the new Tack box (which is so lovely) and this pile of wreckage and will make my last 2 Tacks from these..

After ripping off this lot and combining the remainder with some new bits from the Tack box and my ever waning bits box I ended up with....

This lot seen here at the bluetacked stage...I went with Plasma-Rocket Launcher for a long ranged support tack who can also attack well with the Plas and PW..

I bitz ordered one of these sweet Sternguard heavy bolters for the 2nd squad..

Very early shot here...or a hideous teleporter accident perhaps?

After these squads are built proper I'll do my last Assault squad, this will give me all the squads to complete my Battle Company mwhahwhwhwhwhwhwhahhhahhwhwwhaaa

More soon!

Stay on target! There are few things more awesome then a full company standing on the shelf. On the field is better, but IMHO it’s hard to do them justice at less the 3k points. Have you worked out your shelf deployment gear and cost?

I do love that HB. Shame the vets don’t get better use out of it. Lost opportunity on GW’s part. Even giving it hellfire rounds might have made it slightly more attractive to the sternguard. The boxed ammo makes it a better fit for an on the move tactical marine, rather then the cumbersome belt fed ones the devs use.

So..............nearly..............there..........

Still have to paint the mofos...

Total cost for all my SM stuff is something like 6k+, yes it about 3k ish for the Apocalypse version of the formation. I'll look up the exact costs later..

Yeah why drop special ammo for a HB of all things, and pay for the privilege. I agree about the lighter heavy weps for Tacks I made a lighter Lascannon for them, I do have an old style HB too as these new fangled ones weren't a thing then.

And a PF Sarg..

Even managed to squirrel away enough bits to start to more Sternguard..

Finished the Assault squad!

Tried to make them look a little non standard...

2 flamers can be such good shooting I'll have to be careful not to leave myself out of assault range..

My 30 new recruits...

The other thing I need to build for my Company is a standard bearer, my Command Squad doesn't include one, I did start one a long time ago, seen here..he's missing Calgar's banner pole which was to be his original standard. I chopped the top logo off that to go into the Cassius conversion however.

I've had one of these bitz ordered for a while for just such eventualities....

I ripped off his arm and replaced it with a new one from the (now old Assault box), I chopped off the sword and replaced it with a pistol, I think the pommel might be too much, thought it might look ok as a custom handle, not sure, what do you think? I added the base for a tabard/loincloth thing too as all the others have them, I'll build onto it once it's set..

That's all for now!

So finishing that block of troopers gave me enough guys to make this finally..

Ta-Da. Full Battle Company at last...3 squads are obviously unpainted and so's the standard bearer...but it is assembled still...these are just some quick snaps on my ironing board I'll do some glamour pics of them later once all are done (2018?).

20 Devs all present and correct..

20 Tacks all done too..

HQ only needs standard painting..

10 Tacks here need painting..

Here too (well 9, the Sarges are done)..

And finally 10 Ass marines need painting...

Still a lot to do but still it feels like an achievement. I've one Dread done and another being undercoated; the 3rd I need for the Apocalypse Formation will be a Contempter I've had on Sprues for a while now.

Finished this guy too, added his tabard thing, a bit messy, not used/practiced at doing large areas like this, I think it will be fine painted.

Added some ribbing (eewwh) to under his armpit to cover over that unsightly join..

Ready to rock...

I've switched back to my Stormwing and have been finding a bit of time to paint up the Raven, more soon.

C&C welcome!

I was going to ask about the dreads, they are often forgotten when talking about companies. Good that you have a plan for them. How’s the motor pool looking? Do you have enough rides for everyone? At least the tacticals?

Nice collection you have there.

Thanks, I've 3 Rhinos for the Tacks and 1 for the HQ. I've equipped the Tacks to be roughly 2 long, 2 mid and 2 short ranged. The idea being 3 sit back and hold ground/objectives (arguably their best use) and the other 3 to advance in Rhinos once the enemy has been thinned. The HQ can be a reserve or get involved in any attacks.
