The unfortunate thing is that this game is really, really, really unique. I got to spend a fair amount of time with it at Adepticon and was really impressed.

The game plays really quickly (as youve seen in the some of the videos, perhaps) and is really unlike anything else on the market. It feels very tense and exciting, especially when breaching a room. There are a TON of really great ideas in this game. Its sad that it's apparently failed to capture the attention of all like it really deserves to.

Between Forgotten King, MERCS Recon, and Darklands, you have three really different and very very good projects ending at close to the same time, which is really unfortunate for those that have to pick one over the other.

WIll the snipers come with the cards making them usable in Recon? How will snipers work in Recon?

And again, just like theFCC saboteur, can I use them in Recon without having their faction? Or are they indirectly stating, feth You Recon folks, this is all about the Table Top game?

They say that the models will come with Recon and TT 2.o rules.

Which does not answer my other question. Can they (snipers and the 'free' saboteur) be used if you don't shell out for the mission packs with that faction? Or is Recon really just secondary to the tabletop game?

No, they aren't going to say that you can mix and match the units. You, of course, can Frankenstein together whatever you want when you actually sit down to play. You just mix and match cards, then play the game.

@Cincydooley:
It's good to hear that you liked the game, as both B&Cs we've seen, they lost 1, and came really close to losing the other. So, while by no means is it nail biting to do one, it does appear it will be sheer luck most of the time if you survive a B&C. The games will have to be fast if you keep losing 50% of the B&Cs, and most of the games look to have multiple B&Cs in each one.

I also don't think the cards and McG B&C board should be separate SGs at this level, as they're both kind of blah at this juncture. I'm hoping the second half of this update out today really blows our socks off!

It is going to have to do that to get me to stay in!

As cincy rightly noted, there is FIERCE competition for those sweet Kickstarter dollars right now with Darklands and SDE.

Darklands is 'locked in' for me - and SDE and RECON are on the "eh, maybe?" category right now.

Yeup....pretty much all of this. Darklands is a 100% back. SDE I'm going to back for the base level and MAYBE add an addition later on.

I think this is a good deal. And I think the game is good. It just finds it in an unfortunately saturated period right now with two other KSes that are also appealing.

From the demo game I played, losing a B&C doesn't kill you, it pushes you out of the room and causes you to incur a certain amount of damage. You can then re-attempt. We lost our B&C on the last dice roll, which made it fairly nail biting. Causing too much collateral damage, will destroy the room objective, which would/could(?) cause failure of the mission.

I still want something like an "OPFOR Invasion!" type stretch or add on that just gives us a big pile of extra figures of the various threat levels that they're already producing. No new sculpts or anything along those lines. Just a big extra pile of already existing plastic.

If they gotta charge me for a bunch of soldier dudes, rent a cops, and armored counterop forces, so be it. I just want a big pile of shooty guys to make pew pew noises at my heroes with.

I've got Tang and Cash is I pledge- why not let me have my heroic bloodshed buddy cop movie action board game with legions of faceless minions to dispatch?

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Do you think there is strategy involved in this game or is it just a dice rolling game? Specifically B&C as well as General Gameplay..

I'd like more SecFor,..... But I want them to add game play,.... Maybe SecFor 4 and variants (not cameos).

I think having a variety of opposing forces (or just big piles of them) is what's going to get me to go in for more than a dollar.

Will I even need anywhere near as many villains as I've got coming for the various Myth races? Probably not.

Do I still have some psychological need to get as much as I possibly can, even if it isn't very rational? Yup.

Quite curious as to what the other Myth stretches will be. Hopefully we find out soon.

I agree, but they failed the mission with the collateral damage in the first video, then "lucked" out in the second video and only did 9 collateral damage. If they'd had the 5th Merc in there, they'd have failed that one too most likely. Just doesn't seem a very well tested mechanic on their part, that they are 50/50 in their videos of B&C, and the second one almost failed and they skipped shooting an entire merc and only had 4 in the room to start with...

For those who have actually played a demo of it, does its 'feel' match what their description is?

They make the game sound like a tense Shadowrun-esque situation where your team is sweeping the building, constantly pressured by the knowledge that the longer you stay on site the more likely you are to be swarmed and killed by the security response. and that the faster you can seize and interrogate personnel or clear rooms also makes your presence more obvious.

It's hard to get a feel for the game watching their videos, since they take it slow and explain the mechanics. Hard to capture the genuine experience like that so i'm hoping it came across better in actual playthroughs at adepticon or pax..?

No idea about the game, but I had a good look at the miniatures for this one at Adepticon (and picked up the sweet Swag Bag freebie ) - lovely stuff.

Yeah, I saw the freebie at Pax East from McG was a clear Brigand, like he was in shadow mode. Pretty nice, an arm and a leg on Ebay.

Ugh, that wasn't the update we were looking for. Sad, and didn't make the Myth pledge level any better, and I see no new faction at $700k.

Hmmm....

I just checked - it doesn't look too pricey there - unless I'm not thinking of the right one?

Another update.

They've added 17k today alone so maybe they are actually accelerating and will hit some of these. One can hope!

We're really cruising at this point and this update hopefully sweetens the pot that much more.

The final cameo character is the Cleaner. He is a very lethal SecFor II special character. I'll put out an update later tonight that highlights all the cameo characters and their SecFor classification.

We are also sharing the next two stretch goals. We'll have 50k gaps for a bit (if we keep unlocking stuff).

At 650k we have the EZ-LDR. This automated construction vehicle offers remote control for both MERCS and OPFOR from a special location. What it lacks in firepower, it makes up in toughness. It has all kinds of utility including B&C actions.

This SG is also a Myth crossover mini-boss. In the next Myth expansion we introduce a clockwork monster-type. They are pretty cool with a unique Minion to Captain relationship. All the clockwork monsters, including X-3One, are creations of Myth's very own Trickster that have been corrupted by an evil-genius Tinker assistant.

At 700k we introduce an alternate play mode called Lockdown. In this stretch goal supplement pack, the players control OPFOR and try to kill the MERCS.

$75 for a single clear (plastic) figure is an arm and a leg....did you find them cheaper somewhere?

What's the thing called?

Alph,

I'm work blocked from Ebay currently. On ebay, search Myth Pax East, and it should bring up a model that is clear plastic (maybe resin?), like Frodo from the GW LOTR stuff, when he put the ring on.

I'm pretty sure it's the rat brigand from Myth, in his "In the Shadows" mode. Not sure if that is what they gave out at Adepticon, but that is what I saw on ebay last night. Saying it was from their booth at Pax East.

I don't think that's what they were giving away for MERCS at Adepticon.

At least, it isn't the model that I got!

Yeah, they did not get them in time for Adepticon,...

It's a cool idea,... But I think I'll just paint a second brigand if I want to do the model swap thing.

On the other notes,..... I was hoping for more from the second half update,....

The info about how the OpFor play is supposed to be put out soon, so that is a positive,....

But the "stuff" in the update just did not spur my imagination.

Hopefully, there is a bit of a push so that we might see the other stuff higher up,..... Will there be a big surprise at the 48 hour mark like they had with the Twilight. Knight,..... I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Hmm. I think the 575 and 600 stretch goals are awesome, the others, not so much. Basically I hope this hits 600k and after that I don't really care.

Still, it's a great deal in my mind. Except the myth pledge. I don't think anyone can argue it is not awful.

I am going to speculate that the Lockdown supplement might possibly contain extra OpFor guys.

As it is listed as a supplement pack, rather than a deck, tile set, or variant rules, makes me think it might be a bit more substantial.

All the other factions are listed as mission packs.

Maybe there's a possibility of getting more grunts after all?

The Lockdown mode is a reverse game,... You control the employees and OpFor, And you try to defeat he MERCS,... That could be interesting.

Also,... For the poor completionists,... They said that any MERCS members not unlocked during the campaign would be available in the PM for purchase,.....

I sure hope it finds a way to unlock many more,...

Did they say metal or plastic?

Unlikely. I've seen very few kickstarters that count after-the-campaign additions from people against the stretch goals.

One assumes metal, using the original mercs figures, not new plastics.
