Four flamers are not necissary in the command squads, 2 or three will reduce your targets down to onlt hitting a model or two by the time the third one fires.

The Russes don't need sponsons if you are firing the battle cannon. Why wouldn't you fire the battle cannon?

The line squads look good but HBMC will tell you not to use autocannons, whis correct if you fight a lot of MEQ's. What do you usually fight?

Drop all three sentinals, You have a ton of anti-infantry firepower. You need more anti-tank guns. Three lascannons will not cut it at 1850. You need 6 minimum. Remember you will need on average 6 lascannon shots to put any kind of damage on av14. Plus they are great against high toughness multi-wound baddies. IE Carnis with extended carapace, wraithlords, oblits, ect. This is one list where I think a lascannon anti-tank squad would be a good fit. You also have enough left over points to add extra armor to your hellhound and chimera, as well as smoke to the chimera. Or you could drop the stubbers, and the plasma sponsons from the demolisher and have just enough points to fit in a vet squad with three melts.

I disagree with Snoogums. If the russ has to move to get a better firing position it's better to shoot the HBs instead of trying to drop a template. Besides with that many pie plates, the opponent will try to spread out and hide in cover. That's when you pump them full of lead with HB's to get them out of cover...hehe. Then you blast them.

When I posted this list i forgot to write in a missile launcher anti-tank squad as part of the command squad. If I drop 1 flamer from each command squad, as well as the flamer from the AF squad I can turn the missile launchers into lascannons. Does that work?

I really like the heavy bolters on the russes not only for the reason stated by Capt. K, but if my battle cannon gets blown off, I'd like a 140+ pt. investment to be able to do some more damage. And once the fighting gets up close, I'd hate to scatter a template onto my own guys.

@Foil, would dropping 1 sentinel to give the others lascannons help out? I could then have 2 independent sentinels. I like the idea of getting to move and shoot, and with the "scout" rule, I could potentially move these guys into LOS of tanks prior to 1st turn.

Moore, Ok.

if you put the lascannons into an AT squad, they won't last long.....

@ snoggums, I don't really play anyone. I haven't had a game vs. some1 other than my brother or dad in almost a year.

@Rick, do you suggest lascannons on the sentinels rather than in the at squad? For the price of the at squad I could take another las/plas squad, as well as drop 1 sent. to add lascannons on the other 2.

Good call, IMHO.

One other thing: so long as you play the Leadership and Close Order Drill rules as counting the Officer as a member of the squad, I'd give the Honofica to a platoon leader. You can rarely argue with a free point of leadership.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

I would only reccomend dropping Autocannons if they served no purpose in the list. As it happens, this list is a prime example of where the Autocannons are hindering the list rather than helping it.

Autocannons are fantastic weapons. They can handle anything except Sv2+ troops and AV13/14 vehicles (and even then they can take the odd crack at an AV13 target if they've got nothing better to do).

However, if an army does not have sufficient anti-tank firepower, and has an abundance of anti-infantry power, then Autocannons aren't necessary. This list needs more Lascannons - 6 at 1850 is a minimum as far as I'm concerned - so the Autocannons become expendible.

Anyway, onto the list...

Doctrines: Close Order Drill, Iron Discipline, Rough Riders, Drop Troops.

Perfect.

CHQ: Junior Officer w/ hon. imp. + iron discipline. veteran w/ standard total: 81

Perfect.

3 Missile Launcher AT Squad

Junk. Drop or get Lascannons.

Sentinel Support
2 Sentinels w/ multi lasers 90

In this list, this is actually 90 points you can put to a much better use. You don't need the extra anti-infantry power.

1st. Platoon Command: Junior Officer + I.D. Guardsmen w/ 4 flamers. 69
1st squad: lascannon + plasma gun. 95
2nd Squad: lascannon + plasma gun. 95
3rd Squad. lascannon + plasma gun. 95

Fine. You can also drop Flamers until you have enough points for other things. I wouldn't drop below 2 flamers per Command Section though.

2nd. P.C. J/O w/ I.D. Guardsmen w/ 4 flamers. 69
1st squad. autocannon+ plasma gun. 85
2nd squad. autocannon + plasma gun. 85
3rd squad. autocannon + plasma gun. 85

Here's where the list fails. As I have said, Autocannons are fantastic weapons and under normal circumstances this platoon would be fine if not a perfect use of points. Unfortunately the entire list has 4 Lascannons (3 in squads, 1 on the Demolisher). These need to be Lascannons not because the Autocannon is a bad choice, but because you don't need the Autocannons.

Armoured Fist: heavy bolter + flamer.  76
Chimera w/ multilaser, heavy bolter, heavy stubber. 97

Whilst I like Heavy Bolter/Flamer squads as much as the next guy - they make great cannon fodder - I tend to bring 2-4 of them so I can use them as cannon fodder. I'd also ditch the Stubber until the rest of the army is up to scratch, and add it back if you have points spare. Ditto on the Hellhound's stubber.

FAST ATTACK:
Hellhound + heavy stubber. 127
Rough Riders. 6 riders w/ lances. 66
1 Sentinel + multilaser 45

If we're lucky we might be able to scrounge up enough points for a second AF squad.

HEAVY SUPPORT
Leman Russ w/ heavy bolter hull and sponsons 155
Leman Russ w/ heavy bolter hull and sponsons 155
Demolisher w/ lascannon hull and plasma sponsons 185

And if worse comes to worse we can ditch the HB sponsons on the Russes as well.

Ok, overall the list is good, it just has a decided lack of AT ability.

You could ditch the Sentinels and the ML-AT squad completely and exchange it for:

Doctrines: CoD, Drop Troops, ID, Rough Riders

I definately see the difference in effectiveness between my first list and the tweaked list. Thanks for all the help everyone!!!

@ H.B.M.C, In the new list, are you including two hellhounds? If so, would the sentinels serve a similar anti personel role rather than having to purchase a new tank?

No, only one. The extra tank is another Armoured Fist. I miscalculated on my totals. It's been edited.
