I have recently been collecting bitz to make a just post-Heresy Veteran Squad. I decided early that I wanted it to have armour marks no higher than Mk6. I got some bitz in the mail today that allowed me to start work on the first few marines, which are all very WIP.

That is all I have so far, but I have great plans for this unit. Once I get my FW Red Scorpions Veteran upgrade pack, I'll be well on my way to creating some heresy era vets.

what founding are the SoG? thought they were well after the heresy? though i guess if these are a veteran unit then i guess the armour could have come from the ultras during thier founding as they were worn be the core of vets that were used to found the chapter - if thats the case i reckon they could do with lots more U symbols etc on them to honour the founding chapter!

I figure the unit, along with my HQ choices, we once a part of the UMs. Being devout followers of Guilliman, my Chapter Master; Acies, was given charge of the new Chapter that would honour and protect the geneseed of their most beloved Primarch, hence the Purity Above All. I'll add more Chapter Symbols and the like as I build the unit.

I have checkd out the B&C and that is where I got bit by the Pre-Heresy bug and wanted to do a more original veteran squad and to have them in older mark armour.

As for a transport, I don't think I'll give them one as I want them to have either Infiltrate or Furious Charge.

I need to get a hold of some guitar string to finish the lightning claws after I gs them so that they match better. The Mk5 Vet is basically done, I just need to figure out what equipment I want to give him, bp&ccw or bolter. The Chaplain was just started today so he's far from finished but I hope to get the bitz I need to complete him shortly.

I just need to greenstuff the last 2 and they are done while I need to figure out what I want to do with the veteran sergeant/captain. I don't know what I want to make it, vet or captain. Either way, I just used the Iron Warriors Warsmith as the base and filed off the IW symbol on his chest and squared off the arrow on his leg.

While his chest eagle will be yellow, the same as the others, I was wondering if I should paint his shoulder pad rims gold or whether I should do them yellow as well. Alternatively, should I do it all in gold?

good work, but the Chapter Master is somehow...not chapter-masterish enough. Give him another Gun and maybe a cape or something like that

i'd say gold.its pimpin and chaptery mastery enough i think.or at least,its sure to make him stand out from your typical marines.

Why not use the berzerker plasma pistols instead of these if you want old skool.You get 3 in a box (boy was i happy to find this out today as i opened my box) and hell a lot of fun other bitz you could use(just file off the khorn belt thing and you get some fine 'commando' suits)

I don't really want a cape for him as I figure he'll leave most of his bling back home and a cape, while neat looking, is bound to get ripped and teared and is a CM relic, so he wouldn't want it to get wrecked. I plan to add a laser targetter to his storm bolter when I get one to make it look more mastercrafted.

As for using Khorne Berzerkers, I have thought of using them as part of a command squad for my Chaplain. I think I'll combine the bitz of them with a sprue or 2 from the BTs to make a warrior monk type unit. What do you think?

I did a bit more work on the MkI Chaplain's legs today, just now actually. Here are the pre-GS results.

I went for a more updated version of MkI armour, if that's possible, but basically it'll be a modified version of MkVI armour. I now need to greenstuff the chainmail into the carved out sections where the joins are on the armour. I also plan to greenstuff the indents on the armour so that it looks smoother. The reason I didn't carve out the joints by the groin is because the chainmail tabard he has will cover it and there's no real reason to do so if you can't see it. I need to add some pouches or something to the right side of the model as the chainmail tabard is a little off centre and I think something there will help make it look better.

As rules go, I figure I'll use it as Artificer Armour as you can't get much older/more of an artifact than MkI and make him a Master of Sanctity with some Master Crafted weapons, ie. plasma pistol.

What do you think so far?

i basically just finished my 'zerkers and it is possible to convert the hell out of them.
i ended up with 3 extra marines built from normal pieces that fits just as well as the chaos do.So yeah,mixing the parts from different boxes isnt a problem,they work together well

How about a "bits" breakdown of Chapter Master Acies...

Those legs - are they Assault Termie legs? or something special?? Forgeworld??

Chapter Master Acies is just the Red Scorpions Commander Culln with some stuff filed off, a vent added to the front of his armour, and Captain Stern's Force Sword.

The Chaplain's torso is from the Veteran Sergeant from the Red Scorpions' Veteran Upgrade pack with some bling added.

i'd go with an older style stormbolter ,too.

to keep with the early theme.

It was the stormbolter that he came with. Also, even though he is older, it doesn't mean that he doesn't have access to the best equipment the chapter has to offer. I plan to add a laser scope on the top of the storm bolter as right now it looks a little plain.

the one with skull seems a little - orky/chaosy... dont know if i like it - maybe scrape/cut the skull off and put something else there, buti like the trim at the knee and at the boot... maybe try give him "toes" i always liked the toes.

scratch that - just cut off those teeth on the bottom of the scull - paste a scroll or rosarius looking thingy - or some "bumps" "knobs" "rivets" "studs" whatever you want to call them... that would look quite cool.  IMHO anyway.

I've done some more work on the Veteran's squad, well their equipment anyway. I finished a set of old school lightning claws.

I've also repositioned the Berzerker legs to make them look a bit better and I want to know what you guys think.

that guy looks sucky for some reason...
i know its blunt but he just doesnt correct to me...he needs more 'veterancy' or something.

I still need to add the grenades and combat knife to him. For the most part, the knives aren't used but signify that they are vets. I was thinking of maybe adding a tabard to them, but want other opinions.

The arms ended up looking ape-like... Otherwise, good work.
