Man, you've got about a million things underway... great work maintaining progress on everything! The Dreadball combo is excellent, especially all the faded promotional signage. I can't wait to see that Hellboy game get some love, I assume you'll pain those up at some point?

Might just have a diversion, some dang fool sent me one of the foooze ball teams, feeling in the mood for a distraction.

Awesome! Which team? Just describe them if not sure!

Thanks I know, always too much on the go. I'll have the remaining 4 weeks of school holidays to try to make a dent on stuff though need to actually parent also, however. I do indeed intend to paint up the Hellboy figs. Whilst I ordinarily paint all my own stuff, though, I have had an offer from a pro painter I know to do the main characters for free. Sorely tempted.
Gitsplitta wrote:I LOVE the commentators!

Thanks old son. They were great fun, mostly as I had no reason to do them beyond a whim. I think in many ways that needs to be the way forward

Speaking of whim, here's what's sitting in my stack to be tackled. Open to suggestions of where to go:

DREADBALL
This month's contest is paint a team. Whilst I have a few part painted (see previous!), unpainted teams I have are
Female human
Squat Miners
Female deldar (well, those are #1 son's, so he'll be doing them)
Crystalline Rock Monsters
Transforming Robots

Dithering between Human and Bot teams. Thinking purple princesses or lime green decepticons.

I've also got a merry pile of MVPs and giants to tackle also. Plus the remaining sin bins. Sighhhhh...

GASLANDS
I have lots of bits to try out for modding. The Gaslands contest is Highway Patrol, which for me is Batmobiles. Offhand I can't remember if I have any unmodified Batmobiles, but that seems doable. If I can find a decent chopper I might do a batcopter instead.
Need to finish my gates, which is a quick job, and then think about teams that haven't really been tackled: Miyazaki (super cars) and Warden (prison cars) only have one vehicle apiece just now painted so need a couple more to finish off teams, and Idris (Speed Kult) only have the vesperados just now.

40k
There's a few bits and blobs that need finished for my nurgle horde, notably the armigers, though there's cultists and felthius's cohort too. I took a step back from to prevent burnout, and I'm glad I did, but I think these need attention once more. Scratch that itch There's also the small matter of 2 plagueburst crawlers. Well, 1 is a straight build (well, ish... ) one is a heavy-duty kitbash, as I'm thinking of replacing the rear hull with a classic rhino. Obviously. Or maybe a new chaos rhino, which I also have spare. But I think a classic one will fit better. I've seen it done with the back end of a chimera, I think a rhino makes more sense though. Kind of a mutant vindicator effect.
Plus, with the kids, we'll be tackling raven guard. I'd considered Wraithbone + black contrast but not convinced by what I've seen so far there.

Right down the bottom of the list is
KM: HARRY POTTER / BATMAN
I've still got ALL of the potter stuff to do and a year or more's worth of Batman to tackle. And, of course, some scenery. I'm mostly likely to have a go at the DKR Bane stuff, as he's the one that's taken my fancy most, but I'm again open to your thoughts, mes amis.

See, when I describe it like that, it doesn't seem too much lol

Gimme your thoughts,

no bother

Right! Back from me hols. Have done 8 washloads today. Still, got kids to the park on bikes.

Plus...

Think I'm ready to call the gates done

Got the new revised Potter tin from KM. So what's changed? Product quality: it's all about the thickness. Thicker wands - new resin, more like restic. Much thicker cardstock for tokens, in-game scenery, and for boards, with properly finished folds.
Good and bad: Some slightly different images but no erratad text in rulebook and no wizarding wars rules. Only real criticism: no snazzy dice any more. Full review with pics over at bigcomicpage.com or insta.graven (yes, I've given in to Instagram).

I also got a lovely box from secret weapon:

Oh so pretty. $15 a sheet. Bargain.
Yes, there's a second set there.
Yes, there will be giveaways.

I also got a box of transformers tcg from Hasbro, which was nice. Pulled all the uncommon and common bots, a decent mix of rares, but my rotten luck with pulling - or rather failing to pull - super rares continues. at this rate I'm going to have to BUY some

Dreadball next, coming soon. I mean I have a Gaslands contest to enter too, but still...

I am!
Now, let's take stock of the part painted pile:

I've added some MDF circles to fill the bases of the Martians. The mutant ant is definitely a better choice than the spider which is just vast for Dreadball bases, even the Tri-hex version.
The aim, then, is to finish up these over the weekend to move on to new stuff after!

Well to be fair they're Trans blue plastic. I'm going to touch up the white with a blue wash, then edge blue, wolf grey, then their Dreadball gloves. They'll not take very long. A lot of glow, I find, is about being whiter at the centre than you think.

What am I up to today? Busy with family stuff, and sorting transformers decks with my eldest. But in the meantime...

Bit more on the very old chaos dreadnought conversion too.

That's MUCH more me. Well, current me. nurglings need their eyes and mouths done, the dread's lights turned into eyes, then some simple highlights all over.

Needs more sticky, too.

As well as all the remaining bases (I better not have miscounted, as I have not one spare) two Dreadball teams primed:

The Kalyshi, on the right, are my older son's. He's doing them with a power puff theme. The Crystallans, left, are mine, and I'm going to TRY to do them lava themed. I must be mad. Still not entirely sure how to do their armour. I DO know that I'm not going to distinguish between the rock and crystal sections of their bodies. Any advice, lava lovers?

The sin bins washed, ready for more metals and blood.

Slow progress, but not nothing.

Now we're into the 4 week stretch of freedom. Let's see how my wife comes up with stuff to stop me hobbying

By "lights into eyes", do you mean you're gonna give the lights underneath the chassis pupils, or daemon-slit pupils, or similar? That's brilliant and super disturbing.

For the lava armor you could go with a silver color like heat shielding that scientists wear when collecting lava samples. Google it, they actually walk out onto the lava fiow field s in tennis shoes and grab samples .

Frankly, I would paint the rock as lava (reds, oranges, etc) and the crystals as obsidian (shiny black).

Interesting idea. I shall think on!

LavuranGuard wrote:Those gates look good! So much stuff done since your return from hols...nice going!

Yeah. Got to maximise the nerd time!

Well now. Busy busy.
Played a Pre-season Warm-up match, Kalyshi Vs Crystallans. I don't think I'll be playing Crystallans against the kids in our league after all: following a Brawl I had obliterated his entire team by the end of the 6th rush bad parent.

Speaking of Crystallans, started a test on the lava. Excuse the pics. Not quite figured out settings on new phone.

Still a bit yellow underneath. I'm thinking a bloodletter wash next?
Debating the very silver armour still. Hmmm.

Finished up the big bugs and their handlers:

The mutant spider (right) is going to Metropolis, whom I'm playing some Hellboy with tonight. Report on that tomorrow.

Did the boy's trophy and a custom rush tracker for myself with a spare Coach Blaine (I'm counting them two as one model painted).

Hey look, a 1st Ed MVP Blaine.

"Honestly, looks nothing like me!"

Convict team done:

Strikers

Jacks (woo boiling water reposing)

Prone markers

And Guard, Captain and Keeper

Another 11-man team done. They're pretty rubbish in game but among my favourite sculpts.

A promo Coach Ronnie Renton too.

And finished up that classic dread after many, many years.

Weirdly, the nurglings eyes are yellow and that doesn't show at all.

+16. Not bad

The boy built a transformers deck out spares today to give away. We tested it, and it's inadvertently monstrous
good times...

Yeah. Ten year long WIP lol.

Played Hellboy last night as planned. tl;dr:
(1) it's great
(2) we died horribly.

We played Perils of the Job, from the basic game, with Hellboy and Abe, plus a back up agent, Sidney. The scenery elements are from the Kickstarter, though also available in Mantic's Terrain Crate range.

The game is vicious. I mean, this is essentially the second scenario, my mate had played it once before, we were careful, and still really struggled. That's not a criticism of the game - far from it. It's like a really challenging computer game level, where yoy just about make it to the boss fight but need a couple of goes to figure out your strategy. In fact, we are pretty much determined to try it again next week! Replay value is that good - it's not frustration, yet. More below in the spoiler block, as part of the point of the game is the surprise.
Spoiler:

The boss was Rasputin. He flies about being ghostly and smiting you. It became apparent very quickly that we'd spent far too much time Taking Time - the investigation bonuses are actually not that helpful. You need LOTS of back-up agents to get you through the scenario, as they can give you assist dice and upgrades (improve your dice types) as Rasputin is constantly lowering them. We had Sidney and he totally gave us his worth - even if eventually that was throwing him to the frog monsters - but more would help.

2 hrs of great fun was had. I'll definitely play this scenario again - part of the joy is figuring out the best team for the job, the best strategy, the best route through. You could easily replay again in an evening if organised (we started late) and it's left me keen to play more. Damn(ed) fine game.

And on the painting front, my Ada-Lorana are done:

Bit of a cheat as the team, apart from the captain, are translucent. Interesting though. And still counts for models painted, right? ! Having utterly monstered the boy the other day, I'm hoping these will be more reasonable for the league. Fast, slippery, but expensive - small team.

Next will be the first half of the Rejects (ie a standard team), starting Judwan, and then maybe some Gaslands to mix things up.

On we go
