Having a bit of a struggle with getting the hobby mojo flowing lately. Been having a crack at the Death Company from Deathstorm and a scout today, though

These have been sat in a box untouched for a good while. Drybrushed them with Etherium Blue and then washed with Nuln Oil.

Going for a desert-y kinda look with the sniper team. Including the sniper rifle, because if you're sneaking around you're not going to be too flashy. This was done with Steel Legion Drab with a wash of Reikland flesh shade. Followed by a couple of layers of Tallarn Sand with a final highlight of karak stone.

That blue drybrush and black wash actually works quite well, I still dread doing my Death Company.

Have you got any simple Nids/Daemons or the like to paint? A simple basecoat, highlight and wash on a mini and just getting something easy done often helps get me in the painting mood.

Just a quick update- no hobbying is being done for a few days, while I have a refit and get some shelves put up. Literally drowning in models here.

So while my hobby room gets some shelves fitted, I managed to get a game of Assassinorum: Execution Force in today. Pretty great game despite some of the negative views throughout the community. Managed to kill Lord Drask by turn 13, thanks to some lucky draws from the event card deck.

Spoiler:
The Execution Force search the Astropathic Sanctum for the Teleport controls and teleport pads.

Viktor Zhau (Vindicare) and Klara Rhasc (Callidus) keep the Traitor Astartes occupied while the other 2 close in on Lord Drask
Spoiler:

Noctus Kord's (Culexus) etherium suit saves him from being vaporised by Lord Drask's combi-melta. Sylas Torq (Eversor) sweeps around his left flank, pumped full of the Frenzon combat drug and violently murders the traitor in a flurry of brutal sword strokes.

Yeah, I just used the Chosen from the DV set (what's hilarious, is the fact the DV Chosen are even on the artwork for the cards!Tsk tsk GW!)

++SUPPLY DROP INBOUND++

Yes, folks, it supplies drop time.. and today's box o'goodies is the much anticipated Deathwatch Overkill. Just in the process of assembling the marines . Cracking set of models. GW seem to be nailing it with the casting. Not seeing any stretched details whatsoever compared to the Dark Vengeance kit.
I won't bother with the sprue pics, as you've probably already seen them a half dozen times by now. Board sections are pretty heavy duty card stock. Appears to be gantries within the mining facility.

The Imperium apparently uses a starship called the Colossus-class melta ship to get to the good stuff at the core of a Delverworld. Which in this particular case is adamantium, hence the need for some badass mining lasers to hit it with. There appears to have been a space hulk drifting nearby, so naturally there's probably genestealers lurking on it. At least 16 generations have been on Ghosar Quintus from the beginning, so at some point, someone up high got tagged by a Genestealer and it all went downhill from there lol.
The Inquisitor and the stormtroopers they sent to investigate appear to have been eaten/enthralled by the xenos. So when the Inquisitor sends back the all clear, the Ordo Xenos are naturally suspicious and send the Deathwatch Kill Team Excis to investigate, and if possible, rescue the Inquisitor. I'm sorely tempted to build that team just to throw in a bit of variety.

Thaniel Ectros (White Consuls) Kill Team leader
Luca Thalassi (Flesh Tearers) CC Specialist for definite
Koenen Siegfric (Howling Griffons) CC specialist maybe?
Vondel Omid (Crimson Fists) Terminator?
and Stentor Pranus (Novamarines) Bolter marine/Devastator

Looking forward to seeing some of that box built, I can't really tell if I'll like a model from the sprue photos or painted studio shots, need to see the raw potential

Looks like you were getting an early start with your DA/DW a post previous.

First 5 built.. And spoilers for convenience . Cracking stuff! Genestealer Patriarch and puny cultist to follow in the morning. Very tired.. The First and 2nd gens are more or less how a normal size human SHOULD look next to an Astartes, i.e. Puny and easily killed. 1st and 2nd gens are on 25mm bases, everyone else is 32mm save for the Patriarch who sits on a 50mm round.

Ortan Cassius- a word of warning- that chain across the gorget is a separate piece. Verrry flimsy so be careful else it'll snap when you cut it from the frame(like it did with me! D'oh!)

Those are bloody nice models! Can't wait to get my hands on them! Are the Dark Angel's arms separate/easy to remove? His is about the only pose I'm not a fan of.

Gydrael's sword arm is attached to the torso, the plasma pistol arm is separate. Also, you may have noticed I swapped out the pauldron on the sword arm ( DA Company Veteran bits- so useful!). Head also comes attached to the model.

Cheers. I think my brother was on about painting the xenos-worshipping scum Genestealer cultists (skin tones at least) in Hive Fleet Behemoth colours. Toned down a bit, naturally, since they're supposed to be working from within.

I'll probably be painting the Sternguard conversion first before applying paint to the box set marines. Might do the Blood Ravens Librarian first as I quite enjoy painting Librarians.

I was surprised by the size of the Patriarch, for me the best sculpt when compared to the other plastic Brood Lords as well.

That Libby is definitely being seconded into my BA army.

Shouldn't be too hard, he's not got a great deal of Blood Ravens markings on him. Plus he certainly fits with the Blood Angels Black Rage theme. After all, this is a guy who tears Ork Boyz apart as an unaugmented human!

Hello all! So I spent a bit of time with my brother this week playing Assassinorum:Execution Force as you've seen. Today we pushed the boat out, and had a pop at the Lord Drask in Daemon Prince form. And, well... We managed to kill the beast, but at great cost.

Here's why- he's a bit fething badass against all of them bar the Culexus, but we'll get to that in a moment.
Spoiler:

To begin with, it was all going rather well. All the assassins were doing pretty well killing the hapless guards effortlessly (though, the Culexus needed a hand from the Eversor now and again). Until Zhau, the Vindicare assassin, runs into a room and fails to shoot the cultist lurking in there. The cultist gets 2 shots with his autorifle and has to hit on 6s. My brother rolls the dice... 2.fething.sixes. Zhau dies like a punk.
We continue on, trying to find the controls for the teleport pad to gain access to Drask's ship in orbit. At this point, the board is getting pretty crowded due to some bad draws from the Event card deck. Klara Rhasc then gets popped by cultists after she's forced to turn the polymorphine off (if there's enemies On Alert, you have to Sprint while in LoS with them otherwise they can take a shot at you) to thin out the mob gathering around Noctus Kord(Culexus) blocking his way to the teleport pad. This was around turn 10, so time was running out! And the Daemon was now buffing his minions.

Spoiler:

The Eversor and Culexus, having butchered their way to the Temple of Shades, find themselves in a bit of a pickle with 3 traitor astartes on patrol and a growing number of cultists following them. The chaos marines shoot and stab at Kord, but not before he stuns them with a psyk out grenade. Kord is then destroyed by Drask.

Bugger...
Spoiler:

Sylas Torq, is now alone and about to get mobbed by chosen marines as he tries to wound Drask. He needs 3 6s to kill the daemon in melee. I use a Frenzon dose to make sure he gets a good pop at him (allows you to get a free action). First attempt fails. Frenzon attempt gets me 2 6s. Thank god. Drask knocks a wound off Sylas, but the chaos marine next to him, misses. Bugger it. Omegon tactic initiated. BIO MELTDOWN activated! Hits everything within 6 squares of him on a 4+. I roll for Drask first... 6!!! fething yes!! Disaster averted. Sort of.

Sylas, impaled on the daemon's blade, stares the Daemon in the eye, his skull mask leering back at the traitor. He pulls himself further down the blade and manages to utter his last... "The blood of martyrs is the seed of the imperium... Victorus aut mortis!". The daemon prince, rooted to the spot by dark sorcery, roars in dismay as the Eversor detonates. The ritual chamber is consumed in a wave of destruction that tears the ship open and vents Drask's minions into the cold, unforgiving void.

Spoiler:

Verrry close game. Only 2 turns were left to kill him!

I must have missed those supplementary rules, were they in a WD? Execution force gets a lot of stick but I think that was a result of 80% of it being old miniatures rather than the game itself being bad. You are certainly getting some entertainment out of it.

Yeah, the DP rules came out in December (WDW 99) along with a daemon scenario for Calth.

To be honest, it feels like a lot of the hate about this game is as Thraxas mentioned. 4 new models, DV cultists, a terminator Lord and 3 old chaos marines. The flipside is a pretty decent game, which at times, gets pretty unforgiving!
