well... go watch them... lots of potential for more... but sadly won´t happen... the made 1.5 worth of seasons... and then the quit... but i watched the show with my wife...which shows that it had something for everybody...

for me personaly i would go for "realistic" but i think this does fit with catachan style, makes me think of the Russian comissars yelling at the troops to get off the train and charge! so its all depending on the message you want to send with it, this one obviously being "shoooooot!"

From experience of the UK Gamesday (and in fairness the US one may look for different things), they look for crisp lines, a model that sticks to its entry (i.e. WF-monster, 40K unit etc.) but also sticks to its own history like catachans being jungle fighters, SoB being devout and Eldar being clean and graceful, if its based sympathetically and lastly whether it goes with the judges collective idea of what "visual theme/style" they are looking for that year.
I managed the last round of 40k single miniatures a few years back now, but at the time I left it alone due to favourtism being rife with the judges. It seems to have changed now for the better thankfully... now that Jacob Neilsen has retired...  bad GW, bad

I like less my self, the first was overcrowded. 
However like Child said it is what you like, after all it's your creation 
I know they used to have quite strict rules at GD, even though they some things slipped through.
Like when one guy one for his Eldar army, after the judges found out he had not actually painted it, it was his misses but because he had been awarded all ready they did not want to look stupid by taking it back

well i likd the overcrowded bunch better... specially now the sarge screaming atop of the masses... and that lasguner... you can immagine him screaming "eat this" whenever he shoots and the gun is always jolting... gangsta warrior style...
the crwoded scene is definatly cover art style... in true bunched up style of the IG... a wall of human flesh and huns like a giant porcupine!... i´d go for the first right away!
the second one is just too dull...

Yeah, but that rule is there for good reason, Now if they find out it's not your own work, you are disqualified from ALL FUTURE entries too! I mean, how much of a complete gakker does a person have to be to cheat at a talent contest??
The crew placement are just pure aesthetics. There isn't really a rule about that.

It has been over 100F every day for about 2 weeks now here. It's still sticky with nasty high humidity of about 75%, but everything has been so dry and brown and crusty.
