Oh yes. spectacular!

Little boy birthday... and with it some freshly painted Tyranids. He's wanted these painted for a long time. No idea if they're useful in 6th but like most of the units in my armies I choose them because they look cool rather than how well they fight. My son is the same way. These are technically still WIP (and frankly far from my best work) but there's only a couple of details to attend to so I thought I'd post the pics. This "scenario" was set up by Thing 2 with another toy he got for his birthday.

Very badass Gits, I enjoyed this whole thread (from the beginning no less!) It makes me excited, because my son is turning 8 in January and so is REALLY excited to be getting his army officially (he plays Chaos, but its still "mine") Very very cool man

Thanks guys. It's an interesting group... 3 old metals and three new plastics.

Thing 2 is all cranked up about using them in a game, we'll have to give them a go!

man those ravenors look pretty sweet even is they are WIPs.

Raveners are finally done. Please keep in mind these are very tabletop... so be kind. On the plus side however, another squad down!

For 'very tabletop' they certainly look sweet!

I like the ones with the redened bellies the most. Did you do that with washes or with a wet blend? Very effective and attractive!

The ones with the reddened bellies are using the plastic kit's Deathspitter torso option iirc.

Congrats are getting the kids involved- I didn't have anyone to help me back in 2nd... I was fielding Wolf Guard termies alongside Carnifexes and having a blast!

However, my first painting exploits involved Testors oils.

Atleast you have avoided that issue!

Im taking that as a promise..... (honestly, i think these types of blogs are highly inspirational, and i think they show just how good the Dakka/wargaming community can be)

I know the feeling (painting wise), but its all about practice (and getting a scheme that suits you, so you may have to start hinting towards the paint scheme now....just in case haha) i think...has the little one decided on an army yet?

You'll laugh. My "technique" for getting the red bellies is overspray from airbrushing the talons! Totally accidental, though I agree completely that the end result is quite good.

Thanks for the comments and support gents. Slowly getting back into the swing of painting. Expect weird little "look what tiny project I did last night" updates for a while. Some ork stuff, some nid, some necron. Once I've tidied up the innumerable loose ends I've left over the summer, I'll even pick up my marines again.

Well, it turned out brilliant accidental or not.

They look good. Another option for him to experiment with.

I didn't know there even where metal ones that looked similar to the plastics. My metals are all closer the the Red Terror than the current plastics.

You have the 3rd edition snake like ravenors...as do I. 4th edition ravenors looked almost exactly like the most recent 5th edition plastic ones.

But their weight is so much more satisfying than the plastic ones.

Yep, they all look really good together, the metal ones are just a bit smaller than the plastics and the only major design change is the addition of the chest thingie on the newer models.


I'm kind of experimenting with a new policy when I play may kids so that I can actually "play" without feeling like I'm just beating them up. Lately, I've been handicapping myself point-wise... so if we're playing 1750 points, I'll field more like 1500. That way they get a buffer of sorts and I can try and stretch my legs strategically without feeling like I'm picking on them. This also lets them play with units and builds that aren't "competitive" (not that anything I play is either) without getting their butts kicked because of it. So far, I've really enjoyed it. I like playing from behind as I have to stay really focused and sharp... remember my rules, etc. I seem to do my best thinking when I'm behind & making it up as I go along. They enjoy the games more too because they win more often.

Nice, but thing 1 is getting better so I'm guessing you'll be losing alot. Thing 2 is still young and enjoys the narritive so much more than the mechanics. Both will be giving you more challenging games as you grow in to middle+ age. wippersnappers!

Sounds like a good way to keep your skills up, while keeping them interested in playing, seems you have found a good blaance for all of you to enjoy the games...

Thanks Leech! Holidays & birthdays tend to be times when I get the bugs done in batches. Those were a birthday present as I recall.
