Fancy fancy. I can't do this totally from scratch stuff like some of you guys. I'm still a bit queasy at the prospect of rebuilding the top part of a rhino I don't have the official bit for

It is that "Time on my hands " issue with disability, Plenty of time to work on things. Thank you, and it is, especially the shaping coming together, forming as wanted, I studied the backside of the BTR-60 the thick metal belt across the rear along the same plane as the propeller I discovered is the water intakes!so I will have to make a hollow thing to feed the propeller I placed on the rear of the 8 wheeler! I figured the best thing was to get that source you used from California and get my self 9lbs of plastic sheets in 2 thicknesses for making the rounded turrets, and to also have rigidity of the armored plates. So, I have you to thank for a source of plastic sheets Dave! http://www.iplasticsupply.com/

The top piece, basically a flat plate with the cut-out for the doors/turret-mounting-plate and the 4 pices that go down and become the top parts of the track assembly. Nothing I plan to do soon, but something I'm not sure of my skills for.. let alone a whole vehicle

I have used hoard o bits a lot in the past. Their shipping has gone up but y'know. I was planning to make one just because someday, I know I could buy the stinky part if I have to. Marines are back back burner anyway, thanks for the link

Well, it is a real challenge to try and make such a part like that.

I said it'd be a challenge is all.. The top piece after all has some angled fender parts as well as the flat piece.

The trick with any scratch-building, is to break down the shape you want into smaller, simpler shapes.

Also, assuming you have the rest of the tank, you don't have to build that top part in one piece. build it, bit by bit on to the rest of the tank. The top, flat piece (with holes in the correct places) can be added separately to the top pieces of the track-guards, and those separately from the front and rear, angled parts of the track-guards.

The raised areas on those sections can then be added afterwards.

Those are kind of the lines I was thinking on. In addition to using it as an opportunity to do odd/fun conversions like the limo-rhino, or extra wide rhino-raider. I'd probably have to come up with some tracks for it too, so I may as well go for broke. Thanks for the advice

@shaso--was time a factor? because you probably could have picked something like that up in a bitz auction...

i have bought dozens of things from bulletbits55 on ebay...would highly recommend them. but then, i was buying 12 things at a time, so the shipping worked out nicely, and i wasn't on any time constraint.

Yep, this BTR is stretchy!

The vehicle is coming along, not precisely a BTR-60, but a close approximation I feel.

I just get an idea into my head and I have to work on it, some do this with clay, stone, or other medium, I do it with plastics

Thanks Cam, the soldiers that ride in them are trained to jump out of the hatches that will be placed along the sides of the vehicle. I also need to place observation points along it. Of course the original BTR did not have a Hvy Bolter on the front either, LOL

Just found out 1/35 scle BTR-60PB is 206mm long by 80mm wide

My scratch build is 173mm long by 60mm wide.

so, 33mm shorter and 20mm thinner.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I really like that 8x8 BTR... one of my favourite fast paced tank systems... the ivans have a knack for such tanks....

the water propulsion system is a cool idea, also that it is hide able...how does the hinges work? pin in a hole?...is it durable enough? where I have my difficulties tho is the size of the propeller... usually that stuff is made with two tiny boat propellers underneath the main tube...but then again I kneel before your firm knowledge of tanks...

I recently have started to work with eyedropper bottle paints from army painter and I am very satisfied... they work very well and I love how flexible you are with the paint work...and I think the brushes love them too as I think dipping in the pot is not really a good move for the longlivety of brushes...?

also... that quad melta is vicious...man... that is a tank mower....

Hey Vik! good to see you back on!

Thanks, and yeah, I do like the designs of the Russians.

Pin in a hole is what I am using, the pin is long enough it goes through that box on top of the propeller, into the main hull of the tank, so it is held by the 2 walls and the cover sections themselves.

I was working from this image, I know the propeller I used is a bit bigger than image shows for scale, but it seems to work well for the game world, LOL!

Yes, Twinlinked Multi-melta is meant for opening bigger/meaner tanks, LOL

As for the paints, I have found them less wasteful, and easier with brush and palette than GW paint pots which one can go too far with the brush into, or hours of painting,,,,,drier paint I got my droppers from Reaper Minis in Texas.

ah... I see great reference that pic...didn´t knew propellers might be used in that size...

and yep... long sessions of painting or heck when using metal paints I can only strongly recommend the dropper bottles... whenever I used the flip open pots...well...I have ruined some mithril and gunmetal pots that way... and besides...the gold hues from GW are crappy...

and I see that the cover for that propeller is well built

Yep, Russia makes many things BIG!

Yes, and all the built up dry paints along the cap interfaces of the old pots and their latest, so wasteful! dropper bottles are the Best.

Had to do something to copy what I could from the project, the foot rails for climbing in will be bent paperclips

Foot rails, between the Tires, I will use zinge handrails for the hand grabs it needs, but some may also be paperclips bent to the right shape looking at the image
