So here's what I'm working on ATM..

I thought I'd do some vehicular stuff after doing 22 infantry and the objectives..

Here's my Hydra all built, I went back and forth for a while about how to make it convertible; much rummaging and magnets (how the feth do they work?) I decided not to bother doing anything fancy and will simply push the gun barrels into the holes (after removing a tiny lug) and blue tack the mortar barrels on..

Here's what I've been fancying to make, my Ramshackle cannon. It will make a passable 'counts as' Basilisk and also has uses as an Earthshaker platform or objective/terrain etc in a more narrative game..

Ramshackle stuff is often pretty messy, look at the bottom of this tyre..most of the components needed cleaning and there were some air pockets too. I've got stuff from there before and knew what to expect, I'm happy with the quality and find the poor casts are made up for with cheapness (this was £15 inc delivery) and the general handful of freebies you can get.

Here it is taking shape..

I don't like the little flange on top of the barrel, makes it look too 'pistol-y' so it had to go..the kit comes with an alternate barrel which is very wide bore and makes it look more 'howitzer-y', seeing as I had the magnets out I decided to make it interchangeable..

Using brute force and a range of screwdrivers, I managed to drill a disk space in the gun barrel components..

And again into the body..

Mostly assembled. As it's a vitreous type of resin (not porous like FW) superglue tends to not bond super well, also most of the components have spaces when assembled too. To fill the gaps I first added glue, then a blob of GS, then more glue and then combined the parts...

Trailer limber deploys into a braced firing position..

With 'Basilisk' barrel (and trooper for scale, it's big!) and....

Medusa/Bombard type barrel, the 2 circular gaps on the front are for deployed stanchions..

Undercoated Hydra...

I'll paint the Hydra first and then do the big gun...I've pressed the Ramshackle crew into service too and may make another tiny diorama to use up all the extras the kit has...

More soon(ish)

I have found that I combine magnets with washers. Makes it a lot easier, and you do not fiddle with polarity.

Thanks! All pics zoomable and votable ( ) in the gallery. There's a few more pics a page back (inc WiPs|) if you haven't found those already.

Briancj wrote:I have found that I combine magnets with washers. Makes it a lot easier, and you do not fiddle with polarity.

I normally do yes but in this case I wanted a stronger bond, those resin barrels are heavy so the extra strength seemed indicated. I was very careful about polarity! Really didn't fancy digging a magnet back out of it's hidey hole....

I've done most of the base work on the Hydra now, so it's just detailing and then weathering. So quick after doing all the SM vehicles....nice change!

Are those loaders from ramshakle too?

Bristol!

I suppose you mean these guys..

They are the loaders that come with the Ramshackle set. I left off the heads which are a bit 'pinheady' with big gasmasks and replaced them with standard IG heads (obviously). They are a little short too but after I clipped away the base and added a slotta base (I suppose they aren't really slotta bases anymore...) they got a bit taller, the resin snapped a bit and needed repairing during this but it was fine to fix.

There was so much extra crap from the set I found myself making another little thingy, could be useful as a further objective or terrain etc too..

There's space to mount a guy too..

Built gun with crew..

I bit more fiddling happened..I built a little quartermaster for the ammo dump (smoking in an ammo dump, in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is no health and safety..) ensuring the correct paper work is filled out for each shell..the torso and arms is from the Hydra kit as I didn't mount him on the back balcony thing, he will still fit on there with his base though. I found another head for the guy on the right, a Catachan sentinel pilot I think, makes him look a bit dumb and slightly deformed...perfect.

The Hydra is coming together..

Here he is nearly done, hope to finish him soon..

Did some very preliminary work on the engineers too..this guy lost his head to some clippers..

To have it replaced with that nice resin one I managed to rip off the heavy flamer guy..

Hope to do some finished Hydra pics soon, I want to make a start on the 'Basilisk' too as it looks fun (and quick) to paint.

Hope you likee..

I don’t think that helmet is going to help with the Gets Hot! rolls, but at least he’ll look cool when he fries.

The guns and crew are coming together nicely. There are rules for ammo dumps in Stronghold Assault if you want to use the pile of munitions for something other then an objective.

Yes that's exactly the sort of use it will hopefully find in narrative games, City Fight etc.

Yeah rule of cool on the helmet, it does have a targety thing too!

Here's the (limited) progress on the Artillery..

Other mode..

I've also used your stuff to make a Salamander Command car and a 'Rapier' battery..

Armoured Car..

Lascannons..lots more pics (inc WiPs) of these units back through the thread..

And lots of the extras (crates and shells etc) have been used in basing and creating objectives etc..I'm tempted by your new Robots and am thinking of getting the mid section of the new land train to act as another Hydra/Wvyern...

If you aren't Curtis you might not know that he has launched a new KS for his new line of Robots, check it out here..

SO I finished my Hydra/Wyvern..

Pew Pew Pew..

Went with the name 'Artemis' seemed fitting and it's one of my Fav characters in 'It's always sunny in Philadelphia'...

Driver is enjoying some down time between airstrikes with one of the Imperium's latest games...

Alternate config. I should really glue some dowel etc onto the back of these barrels so they can slot in like the Autocannon as just bluetacking them on isn't really very good.

The kit itself is quite odd, there are some poor design choices. The big one being the pin about which the turret pivots is in the handle thingy that the gunner is holding, the only point of contact is his feet. So the central support goes all the way up from the chassis and across the gunner and then back down to his boots which don't even have locator lugs or even a flat surface (the ground is textured), a very weak shape and I can see it snapping off all the time. Though I seem to remember in WD that a new guy did this kit which would make sense. Overall I think it looks good and look forward to fielding it..

As a little side project here's a mates D&D (Well Pathfinder) character...he got it done by a company called Hero Forge who let you create the look of your dude then 3D print it. There's two as the first arrived snapped at the ankles and they sent a replacement. I've repaired it and will base it but leave it unpainted as he goes invisible all the time and this will denote that nicely. Painting is at a horribly early stage so should look better soon. I had a look at the Hero Forge site and it looks quite good.

That's all for now, hope you like!

Thanks! I've got no further with those guys unfortunately, not had much toy time recently, boo. I plan to finish that little RPG guy first then hopefully get that gun and crew finished.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'm also toying with the idea of some minor camo netting, any suggestions as to what to use for the actual net? It'd need to be fairly light as those magnets only hold so much and I was primarily planning to wrap the barrel and add some foliage type stuff.

I’ve not personally tried it, but I’ve heard that gauze or cheesecloth work well.

I've also heard that, I might have a bandage or something around, I think someone said car body mesh as well? I might have dreamt it though.

Another thing you could use is fruit bags like the ones clementines or oranges come, some are string like and some are plastic both work just a thought.

O yes just airbrush them with a basic camo pattern to make them look good.

I've always thought that Gauze would make for the best camo netting. Wouldn't know how to stick it to the model though...

Best of luck with the experiments

PVA glue watered down slow drying gives you time to arrange it so to speak glad I could help and remember there is a use for everything

So I bought some more fruit and now have bag for same.

LDD how did you get good coverage on the netting? Literally roll it on paint, I remember you saying you soaked it in PVA, I was wondering about using a few anchor points to superglue it to the barrel. I was hoping to get a bit of foliage to wedge in too, MLCS do you still have that bag of railway trees etc?

Been little time for toys, boo. Did a tiny bit of progress on little hobbit wizard here, not particularly well shown by this bad pic. Well still early days on him so far.
