I'm willing to play a few quid for a tekkit server. Aslong as it's reliably up and I don't have to worry about it being deleted to laziness/arguments/bad admins etc. The nice thing about the Dakka server is that there is none of that, I don't have to worry about any singleplayer game being deleted and I know that the Dakka server won't suddenly be destroyed, deleting everything.

Server rental looks reasonable, but I feel like in the end, two or three people would pay and others would freeload. I'm not accusing anyone here.

Don't read the spoiler if you're not interested in why I can't contribute. Or if you're going to bitch about it.

Spoiler:
I'm between a cobblestone and a bedrock here: I live with my family still and they have no idea about anything. Luddites, the lot of them. If I said:

"I'm giving complete strangers on the internet the ability to do something with my own money"

I'd be doomed. Which sucks. I'd like to be a DCM, but can't for the same reason.

What difference has tekkit got to normal minecraft? (apart from mods) also I will be happy to stick in a fiver.

Well, it's a freaking mahoosive modpack, combining the best mods to grace minecraft into one awesome package. I think it's a huge improvement on vanilla.

What difference does a modpack make without the mods?

Just pack I guess?

What makes a modpack different from the original game apart from mods?

I can't tell if sarcasm, so I'll just say the Dakka Minecraft world currently occupies 2.3GB (not counting the backups). However, that's mostly because people went exploring off to 30000 and things. A reasonably sized world for a few people can be maintained under 512MB.

Well I certainly didn't go to 30000! I stayed within a reasonable distance of 15000 blocks from spawn. I'd like to throw in a fiver too, but I can't make a paypal or anything to give someone money, plus my parents wouldn't be best pleased if I asked them for a fiver to help make a server.

So with a 1gb server, you'd want to lhave a rule saying people shouldn't go beyond 10,000, just to be on the safe side.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

There are server mods that allow you to set a limit, at which point people hit an invisible wall.

There is no limit or invisible wall on the Dakka Minecraft server. However, I do have an invisible castle.

Tell you what, I'll try to set up a server of mine with Tekkit, just as an attempt. I've not got a map, but if it works, I'll load up a map made by 4 and OP him.

My folder is that size, so I guessed. Good point about the wandering off though.

*Facepalms* There is already a tekkit server I know of that's paid for and one of my good friends runs it? Did anyone actually read my previous IP post?
He's also making a so called "minecraft company" named Porko. Not exactly sure why...
But hey! He's nuts and probably the funnest guy you ever met!

Currently attempting to put together a homebrew non-canon Space Marine chapter. If I can be bothered to getting around to painting the models and putting the things together of course...

So we can just use that, I guess. Shame, I was doing well playing on the server by myself... foreveralone.jpg
