Jeb pointed out in a tweet that the "pick block" action (default middle mouse button) can be used to clone items in the inventory. This makes it much easier to mass produce fireworks.
I've put together the device below. It contains six dispensers all filled with 576 fireworks each (so 3456 fireworks in total). I've made it so each dispenser contains 9 unique fireworks, so that's 54 unique fireworks.
The redstone is set to fire off each dispenser one after the other in a loop and can be toggled on and off. I just messed about till I got something working, so I'm sure it could be simplified or improved, but eh, it works.
I will try to import several of these devices to various locations in the Dakka vanilla world tonight, ready for tomorrow (as Australians start celebrating New Years before the rest of us). I'm happy to do many devices as there are many timezones and fireworks just go poof so it's not going to ruin the economy or game etc.
If you want to do your own display or timing, feel free to rip the device apart and use the fireworks in your own redstone setup. But if you just want a lever to flick at midnight, it's all set:
Spoiler:
I'll try to place them around some popular locations (and will say where when I've done them), but if you want to request one to be put somewhere, please say so in the next couple of hours, preferably with coordinates or a map link.

'tis always my strategy when dealing with redstone

Cool. I'll just boost the volume of the track before uploading it, then. I can at least do that much. I remember when Jevin was first doing vids, and he was so quiet I'd have to max YouTube and system volume just to make him out- switching to anything else was a bit of a shock, for sure.

People who asked last night when I was online should also find launchers at their places.
If the timing circuit is already running, you don't need to touch the first switch, just the upper switch to toggle launching on/off. The fireworks fire at a rate determined by the timing circuit in the middle. If you want them to fire more slowly, just adjust the repeaters to have a longer delay (right click). However, at the default rate, with the quantity of fireworks loaded, it should continuously fire for at least five minutes (estimated, not timed).
Again, the launchers are just a serving suggestion, feel free to take them apart and make your own displays.
The launcher goes on for a fair bit longer than 5 minutes. I had to set it back to night at least twice.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, if your launcher is quite high up (like Docta's) you should turn off Clouds in the Video Settings, as Minecraft doesn't render the fireworks that go above the clouds. Also use the default texture pack if your current texture pack doesn't include fireworks yet.

I actually do have a beard. Mustache and Goatee, as a matter of fact. And I'm planning on some goggles. Eventually. Once I can find a place that'll make custom prescription safety lenses that are perfectly round.
I don't think I'll be setting mine off quite yet, but I'll probably take the launcher and do a Zamperla style fireworks display with mine. We get them every year here.

Well now it has a fireworks launcher on its roof
Just try to keep the creepers away from it

I won't be logging on until tomorrow, so unless they blow it up while I'm logged off, then I think I'll be okay

May I request the resources to try it out? (just under 8 hours until midnight!)
All set.
Just remember that you should turn off clouds in the Video Settings in the Minecraft options (otherwise the fireworks just vanish as soon as they touch the clouds).
I'll restock the Suburbia and Manor launchers if any others want to use them.

Yeah, the system is movable if you put half the fireworks in an enderchest, the other half in your inventory, and all the redstone, dispensers, pistons etc in the hotbar.

I just want to point out that I only dropped off the fireworks launcher. I did not hear any ticking (because I was using mcedit), nor do I know what your butler is.
The last person I saw messing with ticking machines was Sky_slasher....

For anyone who missed the fireworks on NYE -- I have a launcher on the roof of the Beanstalk (in the lake, next to the Mansion), which I persuaded Dark to put in place for my birthday tonight. Not sure precisely when we'll be setting them off, but probably sometime around 9pm tonight (GMT).
