I swear I think those two have a hate-crush on each other sometimes.
Just build a house. The area around that's yours pretty much. If you want more, and there's nobody in that area, then just mark it as yours with some signs. However, do try and actually use the land that you're laying claim to. Turning on signs will show you where people's homes are (as will turning on player spawns). You may notice that an area outwith a player's spawn is marked with a sign of ownership (which may be difficult to see unless used enmasse in the actual game, rather than looking on the map).
I would hazard not to go out and say that everything for the next 10,000 blocks in x direction is yours just because nobody's living there. Try and deal with the space you've got before moving outwards to start further projects. Ie having one building in one location and another 2000 blocks away doesn't really constitute you owning everything in between unless say there's a string of villages or a train line in between them/
If you have a neighbor nearby ask them if its ok before expanding in their direction too. Though they may not even be active on the server too often, or at all, coming back after some down time to find that you've got a nice new wooden shack and chicken coup in your garden can be jarring. My wording makes it come across as awful formal, but as long as you're not stepping on anyone else's toes you don't really need state your intent to go build somewhere at all. =P
No wyrm, the build I had planned is a lot more interesting. See the 2013 FW open day ticket and youll know

Question. Would anyone think it unwise for me to build a giant labyrinth underneath the entirety of my land? (If only I could spawn protect my area when it was done) I need obsidian. Lots of it.
I need name tags for my 'convicts'
I need to start to make a giant labyrinth filled with prisoners guards etc.

Its going to be very long.
It would be funny to have a creeper convict inside of an obsidan room with a name tag And guess what! Mobs do not despawn at all if you name tag them. So I will build an imprentable vault as my main convict.
So in the center of my massive lake will be the dungeon headquarters where all the primary convicts are Zombies, Skeletons, creepers, spiders, a random villager called joe..... Oh joe. A wolf. An iron golem...... Yeah this will be fun. Especially writing the history on them in the prison library.
I would love to have help with wood.... I am very low. I will give a stack of iron for 10 stacks of wood (Birch and spruce wood)

Go for it! If it ends up getting done we might have to do some good old fashioned dungeon crawling

And it would now include another user's home, and be close to at least one other, including my village.
Anyhow. Uh, good luck getting a hold of all that obsidian. ^^
I've got a small fortress beneath my home. Even though its carved from stone and those blocks that can be made from it, its still only "small" just for the time that it takes to dig it all out.
*I'm not being deprecating because I don't to be hunted by a creeper in a dark tunnel. Honest. ...
Inquisitor Ehrenstein, you do understand that people on this forum ARE trying to offer you advice to you so that you don't come across as someone who likes to just ignore rules and claim peoples houses right?
So take their advice man... Even the great Darkinnit gave you advice....

hi guys...
as you know i've been on the server for a little while now and i have a project in mind that'll require lots of iron so i need to put in some infrastructure first... so i want to build an iron golem farm. ideally i'd like it to be relatively close to where i am currently. but if there are people around that object i will go off the shown map if necessary... of course if someone already has one and doesn't mind me using it and taking a percentage of the drops i won't need to make it, and if there isn't one and i build it once i've got the resources i need from it it'll be free for public use.
currently looking at the map my options are somewhere in the swamp/tundra biome near my home, between me and storm_lord92 or maybe in the ocean around -2870 z -1239/ desert nearby.
as this is a major undertaking i'll be spending some time gathering the resources to build it. so i thought id ask first while i gather resources then if its a no i've got plenty of other things i could build with what i gathered...
as i know storm _lord92 personally and we live in the same town ill have plenty of opportunities to ask his opinion of the whole thing. thanks for taking your time to give your advice...

that and lots of iron tools for diggy hole... as im a bit tight when it comes to using diamonds
Villager Iron Golem farm. Works like a charm. Get an iron sword and you could kill 2 iron golems which is a full reload on all that iron.
was thinking of something a little larger and semi automated storm_lord92 said he'd be ok with it between me and him may make it in the bit where the chunk clash is where swamp suddenly becomes tundra forest near me
