That's great to know as I'm quite fond of my snow cover too ... time to get out the snow shovel ... when/if I ever get back home.

More than 200 blocks or so from someone's edge of property, as this prevents people from having overlapping nether portals as well as aesthetic differences between people not clashing with structures that others can see. Now some people do have hubs set up where they are living near people. thenoobbomb and I are in the Holy Nation of Kiip to the north of the spawn, there is a viking village somewhere, and suburbia in the spawn of course.

As a rule of thumb, though, you shouldn't be claiming an enormous area with the vague intention of building on it someday. I think that kind of thing might be slightly more acceptable the further you go from Spawn, but in general, if you say "I want this 1000 x 1000 continent, look, I have a 3x3 cobble hovel here but I plan to expand..." that would be seen as too much.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I was goofing off on the Dakka server on Saturday, but was a little wary about actually starting something before I asked. I'll be in between this and another server, so hopefully I'll see you guys on. Except for you, Alf.

Mostly, you just need to make sure whoever's nearby is alright with what you're building.

The Grey Mesa, for example, is continuously expanding its ring walls- but I think two or three people have smaller bases set up inside. Unless they moved. Not really sure about that anymore.

I'm hoping that we can agree some kind of access to the roofed forest biomes that have been claimed by the Stormwarriors.

Just got into Minecraft via the 360, so browsing over the map there, nice to see some crazy/cool things littered around.

Is it Survival mode out of interest, just wondering if folks are dodging creepers while doing all that.

Oh and if I was ever mad enough to pick up the PC edition at some point, are folks allowed to just pop in to look at stuff up close in game. Doubt I'd have the time to work on anything, but it'd be interesting to look around.

Maybe you need a guests village?

I originally had kept that and had built all over my last land which was a 1000 blocks. yes you can collect forest roofed tree saplings you just have to replant them, for each tree you cut down you should plant one, exactly where it was.

But i have claimed that land because I am planning on building all over. not vaguely but I know I will. Plus my labyrinth is going to undertake all 1000 blocks. Its just slow progress. Its already around 300 blocks long

I've been busy with college work mostly. So yeah I have been unable to play as much as I would like.

I have alot of castles and villages planned. I've just been getting plans drawn out too

In that case I'll keep any logging camps in my Spruce Forest to the North and commute across your plains for lumber as needed. Naturally I am happy to extend the same hospitality should you find yourself in need of spruce or oak along your Northern border.

I accidentally caused a baby boom in my village that's creating quite a bit of lag while standing in the village. I hope it's not affecting any one else too severely.
I am trying to rectify the situation now.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Edit: Problem solved (zombie attacks reduced the number to a normal level again)

I have too many stacks of those. Infact I was planning on cutting down a few forests to make villages with the 2x2 spruce wood trees.

Oh, if you only have saplings that's not a big deal. I have a ton of spruce trees around my place.

Mostly I'm trying to be lazy and get around having to cut them down and replant them over and over and over again XD

I have a request to anybody who can do Redstone.

I am making a small lift. 4 blocks square, pushes you up and drops you down by two blocks only. I have the piston setup for it, and for it to go up, it's a simple timed circuit. However, there's two things I'm not sure how to do.

1: When going back down, it requires a redstone pulse at the end.

2: I want to make this a toggle that works from two different locations- the top and the bottom.

I can get screenshots if folks want. Anybody able to help?

I did a bit of searching and happened across this video which, although a little clumsy shows the array needed for a two-lever setup (Ian this might be useful - and easier to adapt - for your gatehouse too) which will take some finessing to work for a lift but I imagine the theory is the same.

I also found this video for an elevator which was so elegant in design that I thought it might be generally useful.

Something like the following circuit?
Spoiler:

If you press either of the two buttons the pistons push the elevator-block two blocks upwards if the pistons were retracted before or pull it downwards if they were extended. The flip-flop-part of the circuit keeps the elevator in the last position.

That will most likely do marvelously.

Does it work with a 4 block square, though?

I take it the bit that says "Shortens pulse length" is also what delivers the final pulse at the end to retract the blocks all the way?

That'll work better than my design, anyways, I think.

I was using pistons with redstone blocks to apply the signal, instead of, you know, the smart thing. Mine looks cooler, though.

Thankee. Gonna ecksperiment and see if I can get this set up in the space that I want.

It should as i access the pistons only from two sides (and it possibly works from one side as well); the cabling needs to be applied alternately on the ground and two blocks up otherwise the pistons might not connect correctly.

I take it the bit that says "Shortens pulse length" is also what delivers the final pulse at the end to retract the blocks all the way?

Indeed, together with the negated signal from the torch in front of that bit. It shortens the inverted switch-off-pulse to quickly push out and pull back the block after the lower piston has retracted.

That'll work better than my design, anyways, I think.

Your design looks much better though

Edit: I just tried to hide the cabling of a two-by-two version and it's tough to impossible depending on the rest of your building. Perhaps your movable redstone-blocks together with the short recall pulse bit of my circuit is the way to go.
Edit2: It does work in a two-by-two, i.e. a 4 block square, configuration and all the cabling can be hidden underneath the floor.

Just thought I'd let people know, there is now a functioning End portal available for use. So I wondered if anyone would like to join in killing/filming the death of the End Dragon, as I feel it should be a community activity rather than a 'private' adventure.

Once people let me know if they are interested we can try and find a time when we can all be online at once for an adventure. I'd also like to propose that the egg should be stored/displayed somewhere public; potentially at Spawn if Darkinnit feels that is appropriate/we can find a way no-one can steal it
