Going to give in to the nostalgia and get Wing Commander from GOG tonight.

That's because "Star Trek" is driving me crazy. No instruction manual, and the on-screen tips seem to be there for a split second, so I'm actually playing the game on instinct. It took me 2 tries at the intro mission to get the fact that "Stun" is another mouse button, not a permanent setting, and it took me about 10 tries and a video walkthrough to get the "Press 'E' to use shields" bit of the space battle. (The guy on the video didn't notice it either, I was only able to read it on pausing the video.)

"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics, and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe, and Lao-Tzu, and Einstein, and Morobuto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanes…then all of this…all of this…was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars." Dragon's Dogma. I am still not sure about it, it's either nearly my personal perfect game or incredibly ambitious but hugely flawed. There are so many bizarre and outwardly impenetrable systems in this game but the depth they seem to promise is really intriguing. I've gotta say though this game doesn't really tell you anything.

The combat is good, though the lack of any levels on enemies is a bit annoying as you often run into things you can barely scratch before getting one-shotted. Alot of the skills avoid the typical Action rpg tropes which is nice and they dont fill the screen with ridiculous Particle effects which is something i've always hated about ARPGs like diablo etc. It's actually a pretty difficult game but it's always quite fair, unlike the Witcher 2 which had horrid fiddly combat and cheap enemies.

The story/setting is a bit 'vague', for want of a better word, and what is explained is a bit goofy. The world is just beautiful and most importantly for me, believable. This is one of those games that prove you don't need amazing graphics, as long as everything looks like it should/would be there it will work. The main city in the game is actually a believable size for a medieval town and It is never even said that 'Gransis' is anything more than a province, indeed it is ruled by a 'Duke'

The problems i have with this game is the incredibly miserly loot and the bizarre fast travel system which doesn't really work. I dont have a problem with the overly-chatty AI as they have just enough different quips to not grate too much. The fact the pawns are described as emotionless is kinda a bummer as well, i liked the idea of having a strong camaraderie with my squad. Oh and finally i accidentally made my character look JUST like Mac from It's Always Sunny.

Oh yeah. Personally I think it's better than Oblivion or Skyrim. If they released a 'remastered' version with an actual physics engine and updated graphics, it'd probably sell out- on Steam.

Yo dawg, you already have them (in memory terms), you wouldn't be able to play online if you didn't. You just haven't purchased the keys (which are ~50kb each ). If you buy premium right now you will be playing the new maps within the hour.

There seems to be quite a bit more to do than either of those games, from a first impression. I thought Oblivion was better than Skyrim (and closing a gate to Oblivion is probably one of the most fun things I've done in a game) so Morrowind certainly looks extremely promising.

Maybe it's just because I'm an unashamed New Vegas fanboy, but I loved all the DLCs. Old World Blues in particular.

It's not entirely typical, there's quite a bit of emphasis on melee combat, special skills based on the warframe(suit) you use. A collectible card system to getting new abilities and mods and a ton of weapons. Levels all have randomized lay outs based on modular portions. That kind of stuff.

For example, I'm using the MAG warframe, which has (like you can imagine) magnetism powers. I can make someone a literal bullet magnet, pull people towards me to deliver a nice charged melee attack, magnetise someones bones and outright crush him... that kind of fun stuff. The gore in the game makes the combat quite satisfying too. Doing a charged melee attack with a blade and watching a Terran Marines torso fly in a different direction then his legs is quite cathartic.

Morrowind 3.0 gives you the modern graphics at least, although I don't know about the physics engine.
