Also trying to choose between Blackguards and Divinity: Original Sin for my RPG fix. Going to buy one of them, just haven't determined which.

Can't speak for Blackguards but Divinity is solid. Only have about four hours in but it feels like an old school RPG with a decent interface.

Finished Metro 2033. Fething loved that game. Fastest I've played through a game in a long time.

Started Metro: Last Light yesterday. Loving it so far, and I'm soooo glad they added take-downs in that game.

Back in Skyrim again. Female resto/Alter/Destro mage imperial (Money, money, money!) who went and got transmute as soon as possible. Now every iron ore gets transmuted to gold, made into rings, enchanted, and sold. Boosts Alteration, Smithing, enchanting, and speech.

Currently at level 21-22 and I've only done the main quest up to getting to use shouts, and the college questline so I have the Arch-mage's quarters to store my loot. Labyrinthian was a pain. Not for the fighting, but because I was overloaded after about 3 minutes and could not run after that. (No, I'm not selling any of my Dragon Bones or Scales, that's money in the bank that is. When I get to 100 smithing, I'll be able to make some of the best armour in the game and sell it for a fortune.).

That's with a vanilla install. Mods have changed since I played last and I'm not interested in trawling through dozens of "Superman" costumes. Can anyone please point me at some of the best mods? I'm mainly looking for more to do, so things like "Moonpath to Elswyr" and maybe a couple of things like Dragon bow to complete a set of light Dragon armour.

thanks.

Almost finished my second Mass Effect 3 playthrough. One mission to go. (Now if only I had higher EMS)

Also decided to start getting back into Skyrim. I love the Hearthfire DLC and it would be nice to visit the house again.

Also decided to start a colony of Wood Dwarves.

So yeah mostly xenonauts. That game finds new ways to p*ss me off. Before I only had to worry about enemies ruining my will whereas now they can cause my guys to berserk and shoot at somebody randomly or control a guy with somebody off screen pretty much. Then there's these little teleporting fairy like dudes that bug the h*ll out of me.

I really need to find a game I can just turn my brain off too instead of one that's insanely hard. Anybody know of a good one?

I usually resort to a good non-linear RPG like Skyrim when that happens. Less focus on micromanagement, more focus on exploring caves and dungeons.

Also, I've found trying to do things in game more because you want to no matter how ridiculous it is instead of worrying if it works or not helps.

I might but I find the main character must have some serious ADD or something. I just tend to get easily distracted from the main quest-line. I follow a butterfly quite literally to collect stuff for alchemy and bam a couple hours go by stumbling through some caves after eating like 100 different things without any ill effect or serious need to crap.

I may get back into skyrim.

@flamingkillamajig: That's what I mean! For instance, I play a fortress building game where losing is practically expected. Of course, I try to maintain it for as long as possible, but since I know I won't win, it makes losing fun when you decide, "I'm going to make a magma cannon," and accidentally find your fortress flooding with magma. Did it make sense? Nope. Did it help my fortress survive? Not really. Was it still fun? Feth yes.

Also, moving back to Skyrim with more of a... Machiavellian mindset. It's weird. I used to always follow the law in that game. Now, Whiterun's going to have a bit of an economy problem from a certain thieving Kajit. Considering a good half of the population there are kind of jerks, it would be a nice revenge. (Or I could just go full-on werewolf)

Oh, and you can easily pickpocket Jarl Balgruff there too. When you reach his throne, move directly beside him on the side opposite of Irileth. If you're in the right spot, you should be able to stay hidden while you take the coin purse. Best of luck.

Yep just played 'xenonauts' for some hours and got to predator armor which is amazing most of the time. That said my current game is basically over. I can't really do anything after some enemy heavy fighter squadron shot down my planes. Now all my planes are grounded and I'm forced to take it up the butt. I've almost lost 4 regions and things are just looking bad.

Yeah except it seems to be much, much harder. Then again I'm an xcom: enemy unknown veteran of about 800 plus hours for it and 'enemy within' combined. Needless to say I enjoy that game even if it p*sses me off.

Xenonauts is like the old xcom from what I hear (I never played the old ones) where you have to build multiple bases. However the thing is you need to build radar stations in each base which each have a certain radius to scan with and protecting the whole world is pretty much impossible. I choose middle east or north Africa just so I can get as much radar distance as possible. It's also not terribly easy to equip each squad of guys really well so I tend to have an A-team squad from my main base and the other bases exist mostly as aircraft bases (which is probably what they will be in the future esp. since dropships have long range and you can do an airstrike on a crash site instead of assaulting it). I still have yet to go through a base defense mission and I dread the thought. You also might want to do a double radar on a base when possible to get as much distance as you can. An extra 25% to radius sounds bad but it's more than you think. Extra bases are really expensive to maintain (what was it 250k to 500k per base?).

So yeah xenonauts is a tough game so far. Also just a hint flashbangs and possibly smoke are better than you give them credit for so equip some early on at least (having no armor and therefore nothing to weigh you down means lots of equipment and few restrictions).

I've been playing through Assassin's Creed 3 still. I must admit I'm not doing many story missions, I spend most of my time exploring maps; killing redcoats, hunting and loads of other things not really related to the story.
It's great! I don't really know why it seems to be looked down on as one of the worst AC titles. I'm enjoying it far more than the others I've played (1 and 2, never played the expansions)

Yeah, it's a great game even when focusing on side quests. The combat system is possibly my favourite of any game ever (the only real challengers being Arkham and possibly Dark Souls).

Get Black Flag as soon as you can, though, it takes everything that's awesome about AC III and does it bigger, better and with more style. Did I mention you get a free-roaming Pirate Ship?!

I got AC3 rather than Black Flag because I've been painting some Revolutionary War redcoats anyway and I wanted some additional inspiration! I'll pick up Black Flag eventually I expect.

The naval missions do have me wanting to build a 15mm scale ship-of-the-line... No idea where to start with that one though!

Its basically X-COM:Enemy Unknown (note the -) but with better graphics, a more modern UI, cleaned up mechanics and a largely superfluous air combat mini game.

It's based off of X-COM: UFO defense, which is the 1993 game.
It's supposed to retain most of the old mechanics as well. Whether or not that's a good thing is up to personal taste.

I think I prefer enemy unknown for all the squadmate abilities. Sure it feels like a heroic 80's-90's action movie but I liked that take on it.

I never played the original UFO defense though and I like this as well. Both are good really. That said it kind of sucks that the only think experienced troops really give is a boosted stat-line. Sure it's annoying when experienced dudes die but in 'enemy unknown' when a colonel or multiple colonels die it's a sad day indeed esp. if you have crappy replacements that are the rookie and red-shirt.

See I'm the opposite, I've been mainly focusing on the main story. The side stuff just doesn't do it for me. I've brought down a few forts and done odd things in Boston but nothing major.

When not playing Assassins Creed 3 I'm trying to get back into my Skyrim characters. Argonian thief who only use a bow and daggers, maybe a sword if its much better. Had a fair few mods to update though.

Given that some articles I've seen from the industry have outlined that much of the dev team came from the Fight Night franchise, that's not surprising

@skavenlord I usually theif/rogue/assassin every other character, what's giving you trouble? Until you get that one mid tiered perk, running is noisier than walking, if you aren't really skilled up in sneak then you will probably need to switch to the slow walk to get your first strikes in. Eventually when your sneak is higher, and once you get the perk, running isn't an issue.

Sneak behind people, though sometimes you can slow walk kind of in front of them why you're good enough. Light makes you easier to see, stick to shadowed corners where you can.

If there are too many enemies in an area to get a sneak, get a good hiding spot and shoot an arrow at the wall to make noise so they come running to check, hide until you get back to hidden status and they all go back, usually one will be far enough back and you can swing out and shiv them while the others reset. Repeat as necessary. Can probably use a spell to make noise too if you dont have a bow.

If one sneak attack doesn't kill the enemy, sometimes you can follow it up with one or rarely two more before the enemy can detect you.

Seems like physically bumping someone, or being bumped, is instant detection, this is one of the easiest ways to get caught, make sure your chosen hiding spots are deep enough so you wont get clipped by the enemy patrol.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Related to that last one, dual wielded dagger power attack has a pretty goods tendency to drag you into a bump ruining the last 2-3 strikes of the PA. Same with attacking sleepers, they'll get up and bump you spoiling followups, I've been having better luck crouching on a night table or the foot of the bed.

Contract vampirism. I cannot recommend this enough. You get nightvision and a boost to stealth, as well as a few other vampiric powers. And your eyes glow.

For weapons load-out, start with bows. They allow you to inflict damage from a distance. Be patient. If your first arrow doesn't kill a dude, stay still in the shadows and he will eventually lose aggro and forget you shot him. Then shoot him again. Rinse and repeat. Spend your perks getting the bonus % to sneak and the critical hit perks. I don't take the last perk (x12 daggers) because I usually use bound sword as my main hand weapon (and bound bow as ranged) but it might be worth it for you. Learn to raise dead. Kill a guy. Raise his corpse. Sneak attack your own zombie. Get sneak xp. Rinse and repeat. Get the muffle spell and hot key it. I usually cast it right before I cast my bound weapon spell, so when my bound weapon wears off, I know to cast muffle again. Wear light armor. Stick to low-weight armors (leather or Foresworn) until your sneak is good and solid, then upgrade to stuff like glass and whatnot.

That's all the advice I have. It's worked well for me on my Breton mage/assassin.
