I went with those damned Ruskies I always thought the Yak-series of fighters never got the proper recognition it deserved...but it appears it'll be a while before I get there! Haha. My brother was telling me that Level 2 is when things start getting really entertaining.

Yaks are royally annoying heh, especially at the beginning because they tend to get cannon sooner rather than the other forces.

Although for higher teir, the Germans are actually the best. Their planes are much better....

I figured either the Americans or the Germans would have the best plane selection. I have the Germans and the US unlocked, but I haven't started using them yet.

I have just finished the Mass Effect trilogy. I have never played them before, have been sat at my PC the last two weeks. They were great!! I know there was a big controversy about the 3rd one, but, I think because I never played them when all the hype was on-going and that the fact that I DL the extended ending I thought it was great.

After feeling withdraw symptoms from Mass Effect been playing Space Engineers. I cannot stress enough how much I love this game, anyone else playing it? You build spaceships, space stations, mining craft, fighters, anything you can imagine. Its a bit similar to minecraft in that you use blocks, but the graphics are better. will leave a wee video so you can see yourselves. Now to build a 40k inspired battleship

I started Child of Light last night. At first, I was put off by the flash graphics and "girly" style. But the game has really drawn me in and I find myself actually caring about the characters and wanting to spend more time with them. The world is beautiful and the gameplay is nicely de-stressing.

So... a mix of EVE and Minecraft? How do the building mechanics work? Is there combat or just building?

I am interested in Space Engineer's concept but have always been reacting with a "Yawn..." when seeing images of games in space. Ya think it might still be a good pick for me?

I suffer from Minecraft Syndrome when it comes to Space Engineers in that I look at what other people have built, then at the pissy little thing I've made, then at exactly what I can do with everything I build, and I suddenly lose all interest in playing it any more.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Have they added any more gameplay elements? I know they were supposedly adding a survival mode or something... does it have any progression at all?

Space Engineers is still sorta in its infancy- I think it'll really come into its own in large-scale multiplayer, but currently the netcode is a little buggy, so you only really have stable gamplay in singleplayer modes, and with a non-infinite world that's pretty much just asteroids of various sizes, exploration is severely curtailed.

Currently, I think it's sorta in a 'larval' state, like Early Alpha Minecraft, where Creative Mode and just making interesting things and figuring out the systems is the primary focus- though I could totally see EVE style massive player-run space opera stuff after a while.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

Not really interested in multiplayer for it right now... and I'll NEVEr be interested EVE-style "Everyone is a massive dick and loves pvp" style multiplayer.

Ugh, if they plan on EVE-style combat where everyone can just roam around and destroy the stuff I spend hours on, then I want to stay away from the game. The internet is full of horrible people and I prefer to keep my distance :/

At least the majority of the internet isn't as bad as 4chan.

I have to wonder how the internet is as bad as it is. I mean I meet people in real life and some are jerks but plenty are nice too. The internet seems to have a higher jerk ratio than real life from my experience. That said there are good people around.

-------------

So in 'endless space' I've been playing the hissho or however it's spelled. They're basically alien bird people that are about sacrifice and honor and all that good sh*t. I only went up to about turn 50 with them so far. They have a lot of traits that make them good fighters so i'll need to focus on military with this one.

I've been playing Game Dev Tycoon and Thomas was Alone lately.

Both surprisingly good games.

Also been playing some Civ 5, I love that game.

Started another Skyrim playthrough, with a Breton mixing one handed, destruction, restoration and possibly other magic trees further down the line.

This time, I'm trying to take playing in character even more seriously. The short version of his backstory is that he's been forced to flee his homeland amid a political court intrigue, and having been initially appalled by the barbarism of the Nords, he finds himself settling into this new world and plunging recklessly into far too many adventures.

I'm trying to play as 'realistically' as possible, sleeping at night and trying to properly establish a home as something more than a gear-dumping ground.

I tried playing the Reqiuem mod for Skyrim, got my face beaten in by a single bandit over, and over, and over, and over, and over, then decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

Apparently the internet says you're supposed to start sneaky and with a bow. So THAT'S where I was going wrong! I was trying to play the game as if I had a choice!

Im playing Civ 3 atm

My nation of New Zealand has started a Nuclear Arms Race with the United States. Many wars are being fought in the 3rd world countries and the bigger powers are struggling to hold their furthest territories in the world.

Since its an archipelago with 80% water on a HUGE map Navies and Aircraft are vital and they battle the seas for control all the time. Air Craft carriers are vital.

My people have turned to Communism as democracy has failed them after the 150 year war with the lesser nations. With the major threat of nukes and the horrid amounts of pollution being spewed out into the land, people are turning away from science and the world it has created.

I suspect a nuclear war with the USA in the next conflict.

The year is 2327 roughly. Resources are starting to run out, global warming does not exist yet, people are starting to starve and populations are finally declining.

The golden age of life on earth has long since passed. (1994 was the last year the world was near perfect).

Awesome game.

Yeah that's a fear I have of Requiem, it's geared up so hard you have to play by its rules to the point I probably wouldn't have fun. I don't mind some extra challenge, but if *any* character is supposed to sneak around with a bow... kind of lame, at least to me.

Paradigm, sounds fun I'm doing a Crusader: heavy armor, destruction, restoration, 1/2hand, block, something like that. It's quite fun to sword a bunch of bandits down and then whip out fire in both hands to torch the guy with the bow who's just out of reach.

I think when the winter rolls around I'll do a no re-loading Imperial profiteer, basically a pickpocket and burglar. No fighting and probably little magic. Gonna work through all of the in-town skills and build himself a fortune, running if confronted so he'll pack up a lot of stamina.

You start off with a rifle, and you can add Gatling guns and rocket launchers to your ships and vehicles. Seen people on youtube having dogfights. It is still an alpha so lots more to come, some really good mods as well, excited to see where it will go.

Don't worry the U.S. government's working hard to spy on all of us so there will be no anonymity anymore .

Might be true since one forum everybody was anonymous at. Then again I think it's lack of rules too. If there are no enforced rules you just have a bunch of people lighting cars on fire and peeing em out. Too much freedom turns into anarchy which is also bad. Course there always seems to be at least one mod on every forum that I feel abuses their power or doesn't give two sh*ts about the people they mod. I dunno maybe it's a tough job too though. I feel bad for some people with thankless work but they did choose to do it so there's that.

@Trondheim: I'm rather curious about that mod but I don't have medieval 2: total war anyway. I love warhammer fantasy. What armies have they modded into the game btw?

You know if I remember correctly there was even a total war mod that featured the Zelda universe and you got to battle with those armies. I found that rather interesting actually.

I wonder if anyone has done a study on that Day Z game, it's pretty much the same as EVE just free for all.

I suspect people will form groups for safety, either to gang up on weaker players, or to protect themselves from such gangs. I think that's how it worked in EVE right? You join a big group, maybe get a ship, pay your dues, toe the company line and then if someone ganks you they'll have hell to pay.

So in a sense you're forming a society. This is basically what people have done since the beginning. Strength in numbers and all that and plenty of other advantages.

Yeah, that's why it's interesting. I think they did studies of WoW back when that weird event bug/disease was getting out of the even/raid/dungeon and being spread around and people were reacting to it like they would an actual outbreak.. or something. I only read about it vaguely the one time (cool story brah!).

Right, anyway, the niceties of society won't arrive until later, you may find people opening shops of crafting from the relative safety of a player made village, dependent on the other players for survival items but with more free time to craft neat things. Just like RL. It's kind of neat but I dont' have the time to get into something so potentially complex lol.

They have done studies into the game, ling time ago but I know I have read some.

The studies tend to show what you expect from memory.

I found people who where part of a group where awful, but loners tended to be nice. Even when we had a group going, I noticed we got nastier and nastier. (I.E snuck behind people and axed them to death when they thought we where letting them go etc.) I guess you start getting sick of treated badly so you start doing it to others.

A phase that went past quickly though.

Another thing I noticed was, when we fared for our lives we started panic killing. Like if we managed to live out an ambush, we would kill on site after that.

It takes a few bad deeds in that game to start someone on the path to badness.

Fights over resources tend to also drive people. People like to imagine they're beyond their primal instincts but everything is really just a more complex version of it. Just because our safety is more guaranteed doesn't mean we wouldn't revert back to a more chaotic state given the right circumstances. Gotta wonder what it'd bring out in people. Maybe there's some sides to ourselves and others we're better off not knowing and never finding out esp. because they've never been tested.

As far as things go I find too many people tends to make them harder to control and tends to show an increase in *ssholes. I always notice the smaller a forum is for instance the nicer people tend to be. Also the more you drift into off-topic the worse people tend to be (possibly because it's political and more people post in it).

What about boredom?

Another thing I noticed, was when people had everything in the game, they started hunting down the less fortunate.

You would have teams of armed guys who have enough food to last forever wonder around gunning down the helpless.

There are, many, many things people do, and many reasons why, and that game highlights that. But there are trends. I know I do things out of fear of losing what I have, but I wont pretend to understand any other reason people do things.

On your last comment though, big groups of people, and a lack of direction = some nasties showing up.
