So after quite a few sessions of murdering EVERYTHING remotely evil during my ongoing adventure in Icewind Dale 1, I stumbeld upon what can only be described as the most incompetent evil would be genius in the world to this day. This person planned to use his massive Iron golems to dispose of me, but in his haste he also told a rather disgrunteld gnome the command word to make said golems uselss.....
Needless to say, when my party of six kicked down his door, murderd all his monsters and would be saviors things got bloody. My paladin removed his evil head from the shoulders it rested on with his new shiny sword. Good times good times

Finally beat xenonauts!!! Woot, Woot!!!

Sadly i chose the easier route where the brave heroes that take part in the alien leader assassination mission die but it was more important as the lack of time was definitely a thing.

So yeah apparently the world is saved and the next importance was showing fireworks across the world. I think i'll play again maybe. I'll have to see if i'm up for it. I never really used the end-game interceptors.

Holy crap though you basically fight off enemy aliens in a ship while getting swarmed by reapers. It is not fun at all. That said the enemy leader went down to one volley of one of my heavies. Thank you heavy you have probably saved the world from being eaten by reapers (chrysallids) or similar.

Started another game of Xenonauts. So far 2 missions and only 3 injured soldiers. No deaths have happened yet. Surprised how easy it is currently and both missions were night missions. First mission only had 2 sebillians (regenerating lizardmen) and the 2nd had 4 though they seemed to be fairly weak.

More Misery. Damn does this mod ever live up to its name. So I trudge up to a down helicopter objective. Now Typically this thing's guarded by a poltergeist which can't strictly be called an enemy as all it does is randomly chuck things about. With Misery? Well the poltergeist is still there, but its also joined by an endlessly respawning horde of zombies (carrying guns), two boss level psychic mutants which one shot you from a distance (even being close to them drains your health rapidly) and a tank mutant ...which isn't so bad, but it takes a million hits to down.

What did I do? Well other than die a lot (bearing in mind every time this happens you need to reload, which takes a good while), went screw it, turned on god mode and spawned an RPG.

...I stilled died a load of times. Yeah those psychic mutants (Controllers) are a real bitch in this mod. Still I cheesed it. I just wonder how the rather sick devs have decided to change the other objectives given that that one used to be an easier one.

Woo masochistic difficultly levels. My next game after this'll be Kaizo Mario. =P

I finally convinced my brother to get guns of icarus online, so I'm going to be playing that quite a bit. I'm off to college again, and he's going to Florida for work so were going to be doing that. I'd heartily recommend people get that, currently only $4 on steam, or $5 for the collector's edition (which comes with the soundtrack, great BTW, and a costume pack).

If anyone is interested in playing (once my laptop gets back from dell), I'm Indignant Hedgehog on steam.

The British line in WoT finally got the Archer, Firefly, and Achilles, so I've been trying to run down that line.

Unfortunately, the only way to get to the Firefly is through the Grant (essentially just a British M3 Lee with access to a QF 6pdr, but otherwise still as boxy, thinly armoured, and easy painful tank to grind through), and the Archer to Achilles line requires going through the Cruiser I, which at T2 is a rather tedious grind since you have no armour, no speed, no manoeuvrability, and the 'Pom Pom' costs almost as much exp to unlock as the next tank along for a gun you'll never use again, and isn't required to unlock Tier 3, so you're stuck using the fairly lengthy reload and aiming times of the 2pdr.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Its becoming a sort of sad running joke this pair of Controllers spawning at every objective with the Misery Mod for Call of Pripyat. I wander up to something and for a second think "oh god, finally somewhere where I don't have to deal with those things", then seconds later get hit by white noise and die (I have mentioned that the game literally plays white noise at a volume that makes your ears hurt when these things turn up. ...Its *immersive). Meh, I have a grenade launcher right now at least, just a pity that the game bugs out and screws up my save files whenever I'm fighting those things (I'm beginning to wonder if the mod makers thought it'd be *immersive to corrupt your files in certain situations to represent the screwy psychic attacks, or to say "yeah you died, that means your character died for real. Go start the game again").

Ah well. You know I kind of think that series would be better without all the mutants. Keep the Stalkers and anomalies, but those things are just annoying. The books and film didn't have invisible vampires or hordes of tumor ridden dogs. Nah, rather just general weird gak and a great atmosphere were good enough. Hmn, good as the series is I'd rather it was more in line with its background material and less of the shooter crap. =/

I wonder if I can replace the in game music with that film's OST...

Does misery have a hud and map? I tried zone of Alienation for SoC, and I found it to be very player unfriendly.

Especially as it spawned a platoon of soldiers in Cordon shortly after finishing that nimble mission.

It removes those, but if you know what you're doing its just a case of rewriting the lines they changed. What it replaces them with is heavy breathing and obscures your vision with the inside of your armour's helmet (which becomes rather fun once the armour's damaged even a little bit. Que moisture all over the screen and eventually a view so obscured by cracks that you may as well take the helmet off). It also removes the warnings before blowouts hit, and the handy indicator as to what area's safe and what isn't ...a problem considering that the drugs that save you if you're caught in one also don't work any more. That last post was written after I encounter 30+ zombies, a squad of mercenaries, four Bloodsuckers, four Pseudodogs, and two Controllers just guarding the entrance to the Jupiter Plant. Not inside the actual plant where typically you encounter a sole Pseudodog (well the doppleganger variant, whatever its called), nah, these replaced the pack of six or so blind dogs that wander about the outside instead (who the hell knows what's there instead of the Pseudodog. Eight Controllers and a couple of Chimeras probably).

Eugh, I really don't understand why mod makers think that making things ridiculously tough somehow creates better gameplay. For a mod all about *realism I'd hardly think a bunch of mutants which are apparently quite rare would be crowded together like that (in the vanilla game you probably meet about four Controllers total, that is if you explore every location, including where they're scripted to spawn). When I look at game mods which add new enemy types I just wish they were balanced properly, but no, rather instead of the optional plugin which reduces spawn rates to reasonable levels (I wound up taking a grenade launcher to that horde of zombies. ...Ran out of grenades), instead they have things like "even higher spawn rates" and "spawn rates so high that you can't get higher than 1FPS. Don't worry though, you'll be dead before that frame's even over". I guess the type of people who play such mods are like those who are into Kaizo Mario. They've played the base game so long that they need the extra challenge. Tsk, well there's a difference between extra challenge on top of the vanilla game (which is made easier for the mass market audience) and just plain fake difficulty.

...But yeah, to bring myself back to the mod, it wouldn't be nearly as bad if the mod makers hadn't decided to replace the already annoying Controller sound effect with ear bleeding level white noise. A lot of potential, but its creator's have their heads up their arses about all the *realism that it gets old pretty fast. Why balance a mod when you can just say its intentionally hard and slap on a title like "Ragequit", or in this case Misery?

So...it's bs then. That's a pity, I was planning on trying misery out, but if its as frustrating as ZoA I might not even bother.

Is there a mod that increases the difficulty without resulting to such bs? The complete series is ok, but I found it made the game really easy, even on Master.

There's a mod for Misery out there called something like "Misery Unfethed" which is amalgamated into a general fix mod. However I have that installed and its still a mess. I'd rather it just added the new items and mechanics (bar the artifact containers, screw those) without the needless difficultly boost. So yeah you can play it that way, but you'd need to first install the mod and that "fix" then go into the config files and work your way through them resetting the damage stats back to their defaults (though I think a part of the issue is the "improved Ai" mod that's included as part of Misery. That entails that enemies can snipe you from a mile away, and because grenades are tied to gun accuracy for ...reasons, that enemies can literally hit you with those things through walls. ...Luckily that fix can remove enemies using grenades). Its a pity that the fix doesn't deal with enemy spawns, nor (despite claiming to) deal with enemy damage output, so even if enemies are less bullet spongey there's still a million of them about the objectives, each of which can one shot you before you even see them. =P

IIRC Misery's the major mod for Pripyat. Modders put the effort in for the first two games, but by the time of the third I don't think there's any other major overhaul. Mods that add new weapons, outfits, etc and make other changes yes, but having all those work with one another instead of being part of a pack like Misery isn't so easy. So yeah, either play Misery and edit the files so it isn't so cheap, try and have a series of mods interact with one another, or have a go at Lost Alpha, I've head its decent (...if you can get it to work. I'm playing CoP as I couldn't find a stable download link).

Meh, its perhaps a bit redundant to criticize a free mod (god help me if I were on that open Beta team...). Metro: Last Light's still sitting there to be completed, even if its hardly the same experience. At least the mod's not soured my will to make some models based on the series, and well its not as if there isn't material outside of the games to deal with (...tracking down a hard copy of the novel's sequel is a right pain however).
