Split an incoming arrow in two with his back turned beforehand... epic. That just poops all over robinhood...
Sheesh, maybe I can go back to happily suspending copious amounts of disbelief for book and video game archers having seen that. Obviously that guy is amazingly practiced and probably talented to begin with... but it *is* humanly possible.

I think it mentioned he'd been practicing for ten years or at least that.

Right which is why I'm not rushing out to the nearest archery emporium to go try it in the back yard I mean characters that are scrawny and just pick up a bow and decimate enemy hordes are still stupid. But especially characters that have been in books archerying the hell out of stuff for years and years it helps me be more ok with some of their feats.

You're fighting someone in a boxing ring and you wanted to take 'em alive.
It was the only logical course of action.

Oooooooh... It was just a once off thing. Well then it's kind of hilarious as a tribute to the source material I guess.
I was just gonna say if that was a thing he had started doing all the time...
Heh.
Downloaded prophesy of pendor (there's an S!), did any of you guys read that guide to pendor or whatever that's included with the other mod files? I skimmed the first couple of pages, the guy who put out the mod supposedly had a dying friend who bequeathed a large collection of papers to him and it's supposedly existed for over a hundred years or more. I couldn't tell if it was kind of a neat story attached to the rundown for the background or if it was legit, just read a bit don't really have the time. Kind of neat/odd. Automatically Appended Next Post: So uhh... this is harder how? I mean I'm sure it is somewhere, but certainly riding around punking little groups of bandits is no more difficult than before, horse archers are such jerks Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, right. I should say, however, that the change of music is quite a treat! The backstory so far seems a little more fleshed out perhaps, and certainly it's a nice change of pace. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok, ran into some dudes with proper armor, they increased the effectiveness of that *significantly*. I dunno, this could be fun but I'm afraid it would take even longer to get anywhere with it than native and I dunno if I have the time.

Those Pauldrons... GW should take some inspiration from that. I'm strongly considering getting into either World of Tanks or Mechwarrior Online, just not sure which yet (and the fact my job leaves me with pretty much 0 free time on weekdays at the moment means I probably won't play much of either one). At the moment I'm messing around with Murdered: Soul Suspect. I got it for free on a rebate with my graphics card, and it seems..ok. Nothing really amazing.

Yeah, usually the snake cult leader with the polearm. I just snipe her out with the crossbow. I like the difficulty, usually head out on my own, with noone to answer to, but POP forces you to effectively either team up or die. And if you try and take out a force that's more elite, you can't fudge it up with numbers, otherwise you just get mown down.
Got a force of about 30 or 40 mid-range troops, just dodging in and out of the empire's battles and building their rep so I can marry into the empire and start curbstomping

I think my current favored method is to roll around making money between tournaments and battles with weaker foes etc, and investing in businesses well before I go around recruiting dudes. That way, when they start costing an arm and a leg to feed (and I hear that's even worse in pendor) I can manage a lot easier. However I'm starting to rethink my agile horse archery type guy, since against even medium opponents the arrows are starting to hit consistently for 0 damage. I dunno if level and weapon skill have anthing to do with that or if I just have to get ridiculous levels of power draw, but it's a bit concerning. May go back to a more charasmatic polearm guy like I usually do, good at trading and eventually leadership roles. And apparently lots of surgery, especially since there are so many elite unit types to feed. Automatically Appended Next Post: Again, that all makes it sound like I should back out now since I'm not sure i've the time for that.

For archery, you have to get power draw; nothing else really matters, except weapon skill. Crossbows will serve you better until you have a decent PD rating, at which point you will start hitting higher than the rather static damage of crossbows, and can do so reliably and from horseback.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Been stomping about WoT with my new Kv1s, and its truly a great tank, except for that the the main gun is utter rubbish. So working towards a new one.
Outside of that I imported my seasoned band of adventurers into icewind Dale 1 Hearth Of winter. I almost feel sorry for my foes, two warriors in +3 full plate withc grants extra HP and bonuses to saves, one armed with a longsword( +5) and full mastery of said weapon, while the other is armed with a equally deadly halleberd, the other front line characther is my cleric, clad in +2plate mail and armed with a trusty warhammer and a enchanted shield. And other fun magical trickets, making up the rest of the party is one thief, a sorcer whom is somewhat insane I think and a master archer.
All in all evil will have a bad day today

Yeah... I was eyeing those crossbows lol, even the cheaper hunting crossbow did double what my riding bow did and could still be horsed. Smaller quivers makes soloing a bit harder of course. Also... why the hell was I accosted by those scorpion assassin guys when I went into a farm lol. It was bad enough when your archer dude went into a village (not farm) and had to fight off a couple of mooks, but those are one of the best infantry in the game, coming at me maybe an hour into it lol. Automatically Appended Next Post: @Trondheim sounds funtastic I think IWD lets you level up all the way eventually? I remember archer parties were ridiculous in BG1, but they probably slack off faster in IWD since you get more levels faster.

Epic battle is epic, just took on 10 Vanskerry raiders alone, I think 7 of the 93 xp guys and 3 of the 200something xp guys. Wheh. Ran out of arrows after dropping the four that were favoring polearms. Retreated and took a few damage to get free restock on arrows, and guess what? Those suckers came back not with the throwing axes they all started with but two of them instead brought bows! I had to strafe them until they ran out of arrows and huddled up with the others into a 6 man shield wall. My 90 remaining arrows eventually whittled them down. It was tough, the shields were never going to break so I had to duck in close enough to get them to raise their swords and then pop a shot. I tried to get them to scatter but to no avail, meaning charging/bumping was a no go. Got a few shots off under the shields but it's hard from the horse and wastes arrows. Eventually they got down to 3-4 injured guys and one broke off to feel, he died. And that repeated down to the last dude. Leaving me to end the fight at 8% health and maybe 5 arrows left of my second batch of 120 or however many I carry.
Kinda fun, and I did get two levels lol.

They do and its glorious when one getts there. I always include one arechery master in my parties, because the sheer amount of hurt they can put down range in very short time. Added to the figting prowess of maxed out figthers and a battle cleric its very hard to find anything short of a dragon that can seriosly harm or disrupt my plans

I've gotta be in the right mood but I loves me some BG/IWD/etc. Bwahaha, add another epic 14 on one battle. This time the entire enemy force was composed of archers and 5 or so on horsies! I've also discovered the sublime joy that comes from realizing that you can access your baggage while in the middle of the battle and you can swap out to get a polearm or better yet extra bags of arrows! I mean... it makes sense I guess.... but damn is it handy now that I've sorted it out Oh yes, the baggage train now carries at least 3-4 extra bags of arrows for me, plus a spear and shield for a change of pace! Gonna see if I can change out to my old horse too... Just need some stronger armor and then I can take bigger forces with all of my extra gear.

I beat the 'shogun 2: fall of the samurai' campaign. I still had about 3 years left in the game so i figure i could just stomp all my enemies till i get bored. The shogun factions have for the most part been reduced to just a few territories each. One has 2, another 3 and the last one 4 if i recall correctly. I also have to deal with the remaining rebellions much of which i started behind enemies lines to really screw with them and have the rebels capture their territories while they were off fighting wars with me farther away. Sheesh i learned the importance of using rebellions and trying to stop them. It's esp. funny when you get a couple max level conversion guys to their territories and take a lot of the negative happiness while in enemy territories abilities. You may even start rebellions just with their presence without inciting revolts on their provinces. It's really pretty hilarious.
So i've heard there's this computer game called 'grey goo' for PC from the petroglyph/post-westwood guys and it's somehow already made without me even being aware of its existence till release. I don't know much about the game but something tells me the Goo will be the OP faction of the 3 factions. Westwood/petroglyph has never been able to add a third faction or have 3 factions in any game without one being stupidly OP and generally infinitely more unique than the other factions. This is the case for empire at war with the zann consortium, the yuri faction in ra2: yuri's revenge, universe at war's hierarchy, the china faction in c&c generals and pretty much every game i remember them making with more than 2 factions. They also tend to love super powerful tanks that are good against every single unit.
Anyway with Grey Goo coming out i've had this strange interest to play 'Universe at War' again. I stopped somewhere during the Masari campaign after getting kinda bored of it by that point but maybe now is the time to finish the game.
Also in worthwhile news Galactic Civilizations 3's latest update adds some new features the most important of which being battle camera and actual fights. The game sounds mostly done (most of the factions are in, battle camera is in, trade is in and much more features are available) so i might give it a go again after being disappointed when it first went to Beta.

Still working through PoP. My gear has been slowly increasing in quality and having reached level 15 and focused mostly on combat stats... I've been successfully engaging bands of 10-20 or so with almost universal success. I've got a bunch of extra arrows in the party inventory to switch out and I found a fairly impressive 2 handed sword for spearing/cleaving archers, runners, or the last couple of guys with shields (if I've got enough htipoints left to risk melee). Upgraded armor and horse have *really* helped with life expectancy.
I still won't engage adventuring bands or snake cult parties, they tend to have too many heavily armored cav for me to use my usual tactics, though I did take out a 20 man Jutu raiding party. There was technically a 40 man caravan involved on my side but I'm pretty sure I killed *at least* 15 of those suckers. They were filled with mad XP too.
Still don't want to get too much of a party going, just now starting to work on my party skills like surgery and so on, and I've only got about half a dozen enterprises in towns. I've noticed the hire-able NPCs are quite a bit more expensive to pay off this time around, I'm assuming the ones with names still won't die though yeah?
Anyway I'm carrying on... Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh wow I just found my first Tourney too. They changed them a bit.... Managed to get 22 hours of Saints Row 4 in about three days. Man, that is a well done game. Right blend of good interface, side games, humor, style, mechs and dick jokes. Really knocked it out of the park. Buying that during the winter sale was money well spent.
The only thing I am not a fan of are the rail flying scenes, of which there have been maybe three.
