The cool thing about video games (and 40k too, for that matter) is that they'll still be there waiting for you when you do feel the desire to play. And sometime you may just sit down on friday after work (or whatever makes up your weekend) look over at your painting stuff and go 'screw it, I wanna play me a game' and you may play for the weekend more hours than is healthy... and then resume normal activity and forget you even own the game. Pretty normal stuff. I'm usually fairly happy to be in your position of getting kits done and stuff painted, usually after work I come home and decide video games sound a lot easier than hunching over my hobby desk 'working' a second shift Come to think of it though, I may be slowly migrating back to where you are now. Been playing a little Starbound but it's getting tedious and I keep finding myself more eager to paint.

I have often thought of getting back into Skyrim but cannot think of anything more that I really want to see or do.
Try the Rigmor of Bruma mod-quest. Morskom Estate seems pretty neat, too. If you haven't installed Requiem, do that. It's a *totally* different gaming experience.
I keep meaning to do Requiem.

Playing Borderlands the presequel. Seems a bit buggier than the others, I've seen a number of enemies that are... jerky? Like, they jerk around as they're jumping. And one of the people I had to follow got stuck in the ground.
Hopefully it'll just be minor things. The game's all right so far. Not anything too different, but I wasn't expecting that.

I played it when it first came out, but the devs half arsed it then because they didn't think it would sell well. ...In other words I played it for about an hour and hadn't made it into the first Chapter at all because the loading screens were that god awful. How surprised was I then that now, with hardware that's half a decade on, scene transitions take seconds rather than minutes.
...I still don't understand the combat system. Ok the different techniques are fine, its that half the time Geralt just stands about doing nothing as I frantically hit the mouse and beg for him to move his arse. That and I have no idea why you'd use any weapon other than the two swords at all.
Hopefully I'll have this game done soon enough, then it'll be onto the second to see if its a step up due to the devs actually giving a damn that time around.
Well there's your problem; you do not frantically click the mouse.
You have to time your clicks carefully between each sequence.
If you look at your cursor it will sometimes be a flaming sword. That's when you click. If you try to click when there is no flaming sword, the sequence is broken and Geralt stands around like an idiot.
Yeah, I didn't get the secondary weapons either. The hand axe is kind of useful late game for getting rid of shields, and I suspect the hammer might be good against golems, but other than that I didn't use them.
Did you read the manual? Its really helpful.
Oh I can manage the clicks when a sequence of attacks have started. I'm meaning actually initiating combat is weird. You can stand in front of a guy and try and attack, but it seems up in the air whether Geralt will actually respond. So I know how the thing works, but overall it feels a little unresponsive and at times unintuitive. I suppose then I'll see a difference when I play the sequel.
...Ah, and I have the manual in the original box somewhere on one of my shelves. However that's for the base game, so I installed the Enhance Edition off of Steam instead. There's probably a manual with that, though I haven't bothered to check (though IIRC the original game was sold in Poland based on all the extra crap that came with it rather than the worth of the game itself due to their odd post-Communist attitude towards copyright).
Ah, I noticed that too.
I think its because you aren't hitting the target; a lot of the combat is based on RNG, and there' a to-hit chance with Geralts attacks.
If you don't hit and cause damage, the sequence doesn't start.
A lot of the combat mechanics are hidden; there's even a dodge stat, but its not very clear.
Its for this reason I prefer the combat in TW2; its a lot more transparent.

Yeah, I usually avoid hobbying after I get off work. Twelve hour shifts; too tired for it. But once I am off, it's to the hobby desk until my days are up and it's time to head back. I think that since I am just starting to think of video games, my hobbying side is telling me to put the brush and/or sprue cutters down, and relax.
Starbound seems like fun. I bought it on Steam a while ago but haven't gotten around to it, among other games.
I confess that I am a bit too grimdark in my interest ( 40k is king, obviously) so that is why I'm feelin' Fallout.

Search this board for Fallout 3 topics, I've posted a bunch of suggestions in there on the subject. However like I said in the previous thread, why not just play New Vegas with the Requim for the Capitol Wasteland (or whatever its going by now) that allows you to play Fallout 3, but with the updated features that New Vegas added?
Really just sit going through the Top 100 mods on the Nexus first. Then go through the first hundred odd pages on the most downloaded files. Then start looking for specific things that might not have turned up in the most downloaded files. ...And if that seems like a lot of work you're doing it wrong, as if you aren't spending two days just downloading mods for a Bethesda game what exactly did you think you were getting into?

Fallout 3's not exactly the best game to play if you can't download files... Aye that's the mod, I think its hosted off of the Nexus now. However the Nexus seems to have pretty decent download speeds, so I'm assuming that that site will be better than others if you want to download a lot of mods. But aye though, its not a game that I would play without sitting and downloading dozens of gigabytes of files, so you may be in a tricky situation (...unless you go to like a library, steal their bandwidth and plunk all the mods onto an external hard drive).

Care when using that one, though. Got a buddy who doesn't play without it, but it can be buggy as all get-out, and doesn't always play well with other mods.

That's my issue right now, do I wait until I download all the files (which could mean an extra day not playing or so, depending on how many I'm downloading), or do I play the base game unmodified. The curse of a slow connection . Looks like totw is only 144MB though, (surprisingly small), I should be able to do at least that.

Got TOTW all set up (it looks like their tutorial is out of date, so I head to do a bit of guessing, but it worked), and it's time to start my adventure in FO3. Might be interesting comapring the two games not that there is only a difference in terms of story and environment, and not game-play.

I just saw that Fallout: New Vegas is on sale. I bought Fallout 3 and got a few hours into it before never touching it again, but heard great things about NV. I'm hoping to get into the series for Fallout 4, so, would NV be a good place to try? I think the GotY edition is ten or eleven dollars right now.
I also think I'm going to buy ARK: Survival Evolved and give that a try. Some friends of mine are having a blast with it.

ARK is looking interesting so far, but I'd like to see how robust the creation system is. The lack of 'infinite world' seems like a point against it depending on whether resources respawn or not, or if you can farm some of the higher-level stuff like stone or metal.

To be blunt, FO3 is a better RPG. But New Vegas is a better game.
With New Vegas, you're forced into this storyline, which, let's be honest, is terribly sub-par, from the get go.
With FO3, you've pretty much got the option to not do the storyline at all, because the majority of the quests aren't in a quest locked area.

Well, I'm a few hours into FO3. First impressions, not as good as NV. Still good, just not as good.
Running into the BoS was interesting though, my first instinct was something along the lines of "Oh gak, it's the BoS! I'm gunna die!". It was quite surprising when they didn't just not attack me, but help me. I'm used to the NV xenophobic, bomb collaring BoS. What quests are in a quest locked area? Other than the main quests, don't think any other quests required you to have progessed in the main story line at all. And if you are talking about NV proper, there are a multitide of differnt ways to get it, getting a forged passport, killing the guards to get the key, taking the monorail, or having 2000 caps.

With FO3, there were three distinct BoS groups floating around. There's the West Coast group from FO1, FO2, and NV. They worked with the protagonists in the first two games, but that seemed to be the exception rather than the rule. It's clear that they turn most strangers away (and attempt to give the protagonist of the first game an impossible quest). I never ran into them in NV, but the NV version was a possible evolution of what they'd been in the first two games. Fallout Tactics had another BoS organization (which split from another BoS group in the intro cutscene) that is presumably somewhere in the Mid-West. It turned into an expansionist military group. They're not a very nice group, and the only reason that they're the "good guys" of FOT is that the bad guys are even worse. And finally, there's the FO3 BoS organization, which seems to be the friendliest of the three.

The Capitol Wasteland chapter is BoS really in name only. They're still considered a chapter by the Elders, but their openness and willingness to aid others and preserve human life above tech has meant that all support to them has been cut. They represent a minority in the BoS which, as a whole, is xenophobic and technophilic.
Rather ironically, the Brotherhood Outcasts in FO3, named outcasts by the CW chapter for abandoning their cause, represent the true views of the BoS, and deserted the Wasteland chapter because they believed Elder Lyons, and the chapter, had lost sight of what the Brotherhood truly stands for. Whilst labelled outcasts, they are actually far truer to the Brotherhood than the chapter that denounced them, and believe they'll be vindicated when they finally manage to establish contact with Lost Hills and the main Brotherhood force on the West Coast.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Good Old Games have started their summer sale, and spending a certain amount can unlock games for free.
I've unlocked STALKER: Clear Sky, but already have it, so does anyone want my spare code?
