but they proved to be too heavy and awkward

You'd think that the noise of all those guns firing at the same time in such a small enclosed space would make the rider deaf. Of course, that would never stop an Ork, or anybody in powered armor. Anyway, that's just too many guns. perhaps a single twin-linked gun to the front and a fixed gun to the rear. (Grot gunner or very simple machine spirit.) Just my opinion.

Someone hit the nail on the head before I could log back in and reply with why the front hinges!
The earlier T34 models, the T54/55, T62, T72, and T80 all had at least one forward opening hatch that was a partial shield.

Still don't like the idea of the front hinged opening, on a tank it makes sense but on an enclosed bike 
You have to remember this is for the riders head, so this would have no use what so ever except blocking his line of vision  as for the T34 it shielded the tankers body and they looked over the top of the hatch.
On the bike this is only for his head to see out of

But Hannibal doesn't have a t-34 hatch to hide behind? It's all wrong! If asked, I agree that the hatch/gunshield might be a little trickier to pull off on 2 wheels. But I also know 2 things: Kit will come up with gold and no one asked me!
