Thanks BD - there is some potential there, but at that price, I'd like to see someone else successfully pull it off first before I'd take the plunge!

Eh pickup the Spitfire model and give it a whirl. In game the spitfire model is well worth it even as a stand alone.

Yeah, even just "covering the stomach" would not be enough to sell me on a model like that.

The overall "feel" they have reminds me of the Imperial/Republic "Heavy" troopers from SWTOR...just with no front chest armor.

It makes them feel incomplete and lacking focus. Like the sculptor got bored.

Well just to be clear the sculptor nailed the concept art, so you'd have to attribute the "feel" all the way back to the design phase if you don't care for it.

I wonder if doing a silver paint on the armor and giving each model a wash with a different color ink (red/green/blue) would give them some variety.

Indeed. I hated that piece of art in the Campaign: Paradiso book too.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I love the Riot Grrls! OMG I love the one giving the finger.

If you don't like the nips, just put a little putty on them so they are not as pronounced. They look pretty punk to me. Remember they are still soldiers and changing your armor just for looks is dumb. They still look pretty individual to me. These might get me to do Nomads for sure.

If I start a Nomads force I'd buy one box of Riot Grrrls for the challenge of making them look more punk and well, easier on the eyes. Combination of paintjob and some conversion, perhaps. This is the only thing I miss from GW: customization of models. CB produces such beautiful miniatures that usually I find that I wouldn't do the model justice if I convert them (and plus they have fewer customizable parts, and they're in metal). At least with these girls I wouldn't feel that I'm making them uglier.

There are plenty of ways where the armor could have been changed "just for looks" and not been dumb. As it stands though, it just looks incomplete and like nothing a soldier would wear.
Every part of their body except for their front torso is armored.

Depends on how you paint it. One coat of armor-matching paint and the Moiras suddenly have glutarmor.
One coat of modest paint turns the Wet T-Shirt Caledonian Volunteer into someone worthy of ARM 1.

And you know, that is actually another thing bugging me about the Riot Grrls.

They're supposed to be "eccentric punks" right? So why in the hell are they all wearing the same armor?! .

As Hearts Serenade says, I think they might look awesome when 'punkized' - give them some multi-coloured armour (a mix of bright, primary colours). Add as much detail as possible in the form of graffiti, presonalisation, even some small logos (I'm already imagining a 'Canon' one )

Anyway I can really see the potential here, although it remains to be seen whether my painting is up to the task and it ends up looking gak regardless

There's not even really much you can do(in my opinion at least) colorwise for the armor on the Riot Grrls.

Why? Because the bodysuits are what your eye will be immediately drawn to because of the texturing and the fact that they dominate the torso. Your eye will take in the armor plates as part of the whole, not as individual components I think.

It's kind of like the PanOceanian Military Orders. You can do multiple shades of armor but the tabards are going to draw the attention of the eye more because again they dominate the torso.

Loved the first Grrl but these four are really rough lookin' to my eyes. I've still got the Spitfire blister to turn into my Sin Eater though, as I say, she is a great model.

That right there is a -great- idea.

The main problem with the Grrls IMO is the static poses. The legs look too uniform.

Even with all the problems (or maybe becuase of them), this set would make great conversion material. Reposing the legs on two or three of them (visors down and the finger-flipper, maybe) to capture the high-speed movement one would expect of Hyperdynamics would go a long way towards redeeming them. You could also add slightly-more-interesting affectations, like more hair on the finger-flipper's pigtails and maybe some voodoo dolls, scalps, and other Tank-Girl-esque features to each Grrl.

Frankly the Infinity community really lacks for great conversions, compared to the 40K community. If someone could make this potentially-cool unit shine by making a few alterations, it would probably be inspiring to many other modellers out there.

When I start Nomads (probably a year from now or so given my slow progress on Yu Jing painting) I'm totally gonna take a set of these Grrls to the workbench for a while. They could be so cool with just a little hacking and greenstuff!

Regarding all the other figs... Makaul are AWESOME. Comparing them to the Grrls it becomes even clearer that what makes really great Infinity sculpts stand out from the rest of the line (which is still good stuff) is often the pose.

...not a fan of the Raicho though (I know I'm in the minority there). Ditch the shoulder-shield (removable I see), shorten the gun, and grind off/armor over the hair and it's got some potential. but the details are too OTT even for Morats.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

A big reason for the "lack of great conversions" is that the sculpts and the medium do not really allow for it.
Not every person wants to/is capable of doing a beautiful conversion or can shell out the money for the parts. A great example of this is the SpecOps models and the alternate heads they have, which people are in love with for the most part (the Vortex helmeted SpecOps head and the Indigo helmeted head as well being two of the biggest ones I've seen going around as "wants").

Not sure why everyone keeps bringing up the Hyper-Dynamics bit. It is "heightened reflexes", not ninja abilities.

Before the update we've already seen the Sekban, the Raicho and the Knight... so that makes them have less visual impact, ok...

But the Makaul are this month total winners for me. I will use them as elves in some fantasy RPG one of these days...

Well, I'm not sure how familiar you are with female breasts, but they aren't exactly load-bearing structures. One should not be using them as the mounting point for armor. You may have noticed that throughout history there have been very few weighty garments produced by any culture that are worn by clamping onto the nipples. One should probably be mounting armor on a part of the anatomy that is strongly supported by bone, like say, the hips, shoulders, etc. You know, a part of the body so that the armor will move and shift ergonomically with the natural positioning of the body. Not stylized to remind gamers that Riot Grrls have boobies.

I can forgive CB for making a sexy miniature, as that's kind of Infinity's thing. I can forgive them for even making a silly miniature, as long as the miniature is sculpted in a way that shows the sculptor is aware of the silliness. But there's no excuse for a mini that looks bad, and the Riot Grrls look bad.

You might have misunderstood me, its not an attachment point for armour, its an attachment point for the fibermuscles.

As for the second, tastes and opinions differ, personally I like them.

Yes I think so too, Savnock for the most part the Infinity miniatures are a lot more finely detailed than their 40k counterparts - the lack of heroic scale means that it is all too easy to cut off hands and other body parts, or things like helmet antenna, by accident (which I've done, my Yu Jing must have lost her hand for punishment or something ), let alone try and move and resculpt bits and pieces. This comes from someone who has spent a lot of time converting 40k stuff (I have a large SM army where every marine has some form of conversion, even stuff like fingers and legs, so I'm not a complete novice). But, like the painting, it will take a step up in ability to have a go with these guys beyond even a simple weapon or head swap. I agree though it would be nice to see a few more people trying - perhaps now the game is getting a larger saturation you might see it start to happen, although for the aforementioned reason i don't see it every getting to the point where, like 40k, you see as many converted armies as you do standard ones.

Really cool ideas about adding trophies/totems to the riot grrls though, think I might have to steal that one if you don't mind!

Baiyuan does some really cool conversion work on his infinity stuff.

I'm no where near as good but I've converted my Necromunda squad, in my sig, from Infinity miniatures with ease, to the best of my ability anyway. My Nomads are going to be very extensively resculpted too.

I just wish more people would get into converting Infinity stuff because it's my favourite part of the hobby.

All metal miniatures = difficult + costly to convert, so sadly that part of the hobby will always remain on the smaller side for the most part.

Still, Terrain and such offer a nice outlet for conversion urges in Infinity too!

Well not only the material: having a beautiful sculpt can act as a deterrent for conversion. It's like, why would you want to change an already awesome piece and risk making it look worse? At least that's how I think.

I don't understand the whole thing against metal. People did it before with GW stuff pre-plastic. I think people have gotten lazy or spoiled by plastic. I remember taking hack saws to my 40k stuff all the time for head swaps or arms. etc. Yes it's not easy but it can be done with work.

You are interpreting something which does not exist, CDK. There is not a "whole thing against metal".
Many people are intimidated by the quality of CB's sculpts. There are a lot of finnicky details which one straw file or cut can ruin and not everyone is capable of sculpting that detail back.

Right, I think it's more what Kan says. Metal only exacerbates the problem, but the real thing that makes Infinity modelling challenging is those very thin bits!

Beautiful models, but they take a bit of skill to assemble well, I think...

I guess I have to agree with that. They are quite difficult to do. But it still can be done. I've never done any because I've hardly felt the need to. For many weapons I just use stand in's but I've been playing combined which are a bit harder to tell what is what anyway.

As one who has done it several times for several models and various levels of ambition, conversions can range from minor yet crucial bending and simple arm swaps, to really intriguing multi model part conversions.

but it all cases they are far easier to work because they are realistically proportioned than anything metal GW has ever produced.

Plastics give the illusion of been easy to convert because of the medium that is relatively easy to cut and can be melted together with the "plastic glue" and because of the multi parted models, while I will agree they make "glue together many kits to produce one" easy, to have dynamic and intriguing results requires much cutting and resculpting.
