Yes I agree with you completely mate, its got the same fresh feeling about it (although actually a lot of the early 40k stuff was outsourced; Les Edwards, Christopher Fangorn etc. in fact, a lot of the early covers!)
Ye, I'm pretty sure it's been in the works fr quite a while already, Romeo on one of the earlier O-12s said that there's an artbook going to be released.
yes, but he also said some other things which were patently untrue, and caused a rather large amount of excrement to be thrown into a fan

I haven't really listened to all the recent podcasts, but this was before the forum drama. I'd bet my money on the artbook coming out this summer

Romeo and the Podcast crew have usual direct communication with the CB staff, so I would believe this "Artbook" rumour.
Ravage magazine has also direct communication with CB and sometimes they miss in their "What's coming" news. That just means that CB changes their plans constantly. But the Artbook is coming, for sure.

Actually I was thinking about the comment made regarding Infinity becoming more of a mass-battle system (perhaps 18 months ago or so?)

I thought they did denied that rumour during last Gencon.
Things can change in CB, they can choose the gaming path they want, but...
If they want to make INFINITY a mass battle game, they have to skip metal and turn their whole range into plastic. A miniature company cannot jump into massive battles withuout plastic or resin, the cost of metal forbids the quantity and price of the ammount of miniatures a player would need.

Sure they can go mass battle and stay metal.
15mm.
That would suit Infinity just fine.

Yup, metals just fine, my historical game says so.
But, a mass battle game is in the same place Warcrow is, they love to do it but the captial is not there.

Infinity is not going to bigger scale, its a 28mm skirmish game.
Now, last time I heard about it, a 15mm company level or mass battle game set in Infinity's setting was interesting, but not in the near future.
ATM CB is set on supporting Infinity 100%

I think it was more of a problem that the Battlefoam bag was released, which looked to be far too big for what most Infinity players would need (only having to transport perhaps a max of 20 miniatures) - which was especially an issue considering the quite high price of the bags, as nice as they are . So, I believe Romeo then said something about Infinity becoming a mass battle system in the future, and that therefore the bigger bag would be a wise choice - I didn't hear or read this directly by the way, it was read second hand from the stink it generated on the official forums.
But yes I also read this 'rumour' (because its not really) getting shot down - a mass battle system would require a complete re-write of the rules from the ground up. In fact they may as well completely design a new games system, so I guess it would make sense to do it in 15mm if they wanted to do so.

I think it's something he said to sell bags. He didn't say it was just that it "could". "So be prepared with your Battlefoam bag!"
I would love Infinity 15mm because you know it will feature more TAGs!

Aren't Link Team rules though a pretty good bridge between skirmish level and squad based battles? I wouldn't go so far as saying mass battle, but if you were able to link team more than one group of minis, essentially you'd see people have maybe a higher proportion of those units (which are usually near the cheerleader level of power) with a few choice superstars. And maybe more TAGs.
They're fun to paint, at least.

I should have thought a good sized Infinity setup would include three factions, with enough choices to vary the force selection for each game, and a number of "civilian" figures to act as mobile scenery or objectives. In other words, perhaps 80 models total. That would explain a large carrying bag without meaning a "mass battle" system is on the cards.

No, it may seem at first, but if you try it it does not feel or work right, even Tohaa and Greek sectorial with multiple low model count link teams push it.
To go mass battles you need great simplification and play space.

You can already - Haris L1. Qapu Kalki can run a full link team like Kaplans plus a Sekban or Odalisque Haris team. Tohaa can run several Haris teams, though no full link team.

We sometimes wait 4-5 weeks in Australia at best. Consider yourselves lucky. My FLGS got the wave the Al Hawwa sniper was in 6 weeks after release, and that was ordering as soon as they were available.

...but I would like to see more TAGS. I would love to see a game where you play, say, 1000 points, but the vast majority of your points have to be spent on TAGS. Play the games in a more traditional setting, a more open battlefield (not suicidally open or AROs will just be out of control). Maybe with a pseudo link team of TAGs...
That would give me a raging gamer boner.

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

It usually depends on your distributor. There is a local store near-ish me that usually has every new release in-stock and on the shelves within 3 weeks. They are their own distributor. There is another store nearer me that I used to order from that uses Alliance Games Distributors. Alliance is awful with Infinity; I just got my Chandra in last week. Plus, they got rid of their customer-viewable inventory so it's even more awkward for stores.

Ah.. Wayland games just sent a circular out saying that February's miniatures are available (The Briscard boxset, Gao Rael, Celestial Guard hacker etc.) so I've just answered my own question - I guess about 3-4 weeks in the UK then, after the initial reveal.

I wrote a scenario/rules mod that did exactly this on the old CB forums, but the move to the new forum software seems to have erased it. Guess I'll have to d it again.
The only bit from your description that I didn't include was link teams of TAGs. That's a great idea- I'll mix it in. Probably gonna keep it to the lighter TAGs, (or maybe limit the number of heavies that can link to 3 or something while lights can link a full 5) but it's kind of a no-brainer for Geckos etc.
The main challenge of such a scenario is limiting the number of infantry toting anti- TAG weapons that players can bring. Otherwise you end up with huge hordes of panzerfaust-toting infantry, which while interesting once or twice would get real lame real quick. I've got a rule for it in there (or had one I guess) but can't remember what it was now. I think just a cap on infantry SWC.
I was looking at getting a couple of those multi-model packs of Ghost in the Shell Tachikomas to serve as a Haqq armored column for playtesting. Kinda got pushed to the bottom of my stack, but maybe I'll haul it out for a demo day soon or something.

While linked TAGs sound fun and might work in a TAG only game, there is a reason CB drop the option to link the Geckos.
