Love it - new sculpts, cool additions to existing forces, maybe a new faction to pick up...
Hate it - Kan's bordering on insane ranting about how Hawt Chiks are ruining the game! And, of course, all the money the new stuff is going to cost me!
The sad thing is that I actually hold things back on my rants...
I'm not opposed to them doing "hawt chik" models. I'm really not. I just wish they would make more of an effort to ensure that the models "fit" within the aesthetics of the range.
I know, I know. It's not a "regimented army game"--but would a little bit more of a unified, cohesive look kill them? They fight it like GW fights the Internet.

You know, it's a testimate to how fantastic all the scuplts are when people can have such petty complaints lol.
- Pentha doesn't match the feel of Steel phalanx? She's a speedy monofiliment wielding biker when there is no other bikers in Aleph... I think she deserves to have a bit of a different look. Sexy? Sure, she's a friggin artifical human being, of course they are going to make her overly attractive.
- Morias, there is a lot of people that like the sexy nuns with guns including me. If you want armor plated girls got for the Riot Grrls. If you want conservative looking models... why the heck are you playing Bakuinin?

I will definitely agree that my argument about Penthesilea is a bit petty. I just like things to be a bit more "regimented", and she is just so wildly divergent that it is offputting.
The model might grow on me, but...

What "armor plated girls"? You mean the ones that entirely forego chestplates and for whatever reason have to have visible delineations of nipples on their armored bodyglove?
I don't know what "Riot Grrls" you're referring to.

I was fine with the motorcycle and the choice of a female equivalent to Achilles, but the lack of visual coherence with the majority of the Myrmidons and Thorakitai is offputting--especially when put into the context of how this will likely affect Nesaie Alkie (the Thorakitai officer) and has already spread to that godawful Myrmidon Hacker model.
Very irksome.
I think that is intentional. She's the "Amazon". She's the lowest ARM of them all. The only one with monofilament cc weapon, and a bike. She's a special character not a standard troop.
Being a "special character not a standard troop" is making excuses. Look at Ajax, Phoenix, or Eudoros. They are all "special characters" and still manage to work elements of the Steel Phalanx aesthetic in.
It's simply another case of "sexy sells".
It does for me! Again I think it's intentional and works great.
Not sure how that is a "Feuerbach"...
It's a nice model though. I can't help but think the Feuerbach might be mislabeled.
It's the Feuerbach equivalent for Shasvastii. This is the first time sculpted for them. I think Morats can take one too but no sculpt yet.
True. The Feuerbach does seem to vary wildly from the Azrail to the Lunokhod. It just looks more like a boarding shotgun than a Feuerbach.
I think the alien weapons are the hardest to tell from each other. Especially Shasvastii. You pretty much have to play them to tell them apart.
The sculpts are nice, sure. But they are still blatantly out of theme with the rest of the Observance.
Compare these to Kusanagi, the Reverend Custodiers, or the Sin-Eater Observants. The only visual tie is the colors and the robes. Why the hell is it so necessary for the "bare thighs" motif on the bloody Moira? They clearly tried to armor up the rest of the model--but kept the stupid bare thighs. All it would have taken was an extension of the boots to make it a "full body suit" and I would not be so annoyed.
It's like the stupid Wildcat HRL. It feels like it belongs in an entirely different range, not the one it is in.
They are still better than what they had.
Sculptwise? Sure. They're very nicely sculpted and clearly a lot of work went into them.
But that's the problem. All that work went in and Corvus Belli even hinted that the reason was to "bring them in line with the rest of the Observance".
They did not need to be wearing head to toe coverings with the most static pose ever, but it would have been nice for them to at least change the "one piece bathing suit" look that they had to the full skinsuit that the rest of the Observance (and the majority of Bakunin models for that matter) utilize.
But nope! Still gotta have dat ass.
Again, just paint the flesh something else. Maybe they have spandex.
And again, that does not always work. CB's sculptors go to great lengths to make it visually clear that it's bare flesh and not "spandex". Look at the Chandra or Penthesilea--they have "hip huggers" on, where there is a marked delineation between where their pants end and their flesh begins.
Well maybe you are used to seeing women in a Burka but I see women in spandex and yoga pants all the time. If it was flesh colored you would think they were naked. Spandex and tights form to the skin and can create that look easily.

Guess what? Just because someone finds the "bareass nun" look irksome does not mean they think every female model should be wearing a burka. I've already stated that I find this particular release so obnoxious because of the fact that they clearly devoted this much time and attention to a resculpt of the model--and yet still did not even bother to make the models fit with the rest of the Observance. All it would have taken was extending the "one piece swimsuit and thigh high boots" to fit together and we would not be having this discussion.
If it was flesh colored you would think they were naked. Spandex and tights form to the skin and can create that look easily.
And how many people do you know who wear spandex and tights underneath of thigh high boots and an entirely fitted upperbody skinsuit that for whatever reason resembles a one piece swimsuit?
If you like this design choice; fine. We can have a reasonable discussion about that!
But don't you think that trying to equate my criticisms of the design choice to the way women are treated in Islamic nations is a bit counterproductive to discourse?

I like this month's stuff.
- the HMG Volunteer is not as badass as the HMG Metro, but it fits nicely with the other Volunteers.
- Penthesilea is badass. I don't like much the design of ALEPH's swords, but it's a small detail, and not exclusive of this mini.
- Caliban. I'm not much into CA, but this guy looks pretty good, and along with the Noctifers I think I can say Shasvastii >>> Morat. What's the head in his blade from? A hint of a new Tohaa unit?
- PanO Support pack... nothing new. Still not a fan of PanO, I guess some new players will find it useful.
- Moiras are an unexpected choice for a unit to resculpt to me. I like what they have done, and I like the smaller HMG much better that the bigger one. The head without a hoodie looks a bit odd, but cool release nonetheless.
- the Tohaa... wait, no Tohaa? That's odd.
I'll buy the Volunteer. Penthesilea is badass so maybe, and I have some Bakunin nomads so I might buy the Moiras in the future to expand them. I only have the discount pack they offered in the BoW Infinity Week. And if I ever begin with Shasvastii, the Caliban, of course. The PanO pack is the most unlikely to me.

The head on the Caliban's blade is a Karakuri. The Caliban is standing on the Karakuri's torso as well.
The "no Tohaa" is apparently because the Chaksa Auxiliaries were not ready in time.

Just to be clear, I was joking about Kan's rants!
He has his opinions on where the game should be, and they're certainly as valid as anyone else's!
CB seems to think that a slight cheesecake approach gets them more sales.
I'm assuming they have the unit data to back that up!

Woot! New releases and BoW preview in the same day? On the good side, I'll be having Scots. In the bad side, I'm starting to think that the Wulver box was a joke. I want everything. Now. Please. The Wulver Box will come when the Morat Starter Box does.
Also: The more I look at the Scots-Guard, the more I like him. You've still got a bit of the Scottish look going on (look at the inside of his camouflaged cloak to see what I mean) and he still has that "professional soldiery" look that will set him apart from the Volunteers and Wulver.
That is how you tie something into a faction's aesthetics without going too divergent.

Kan, Dakka's finest party pooper! What's wrong with ye man, the Penthesilea is a fething awesome model!
A quick review of each release this month (caveat - I love this game, and everything about it, so may not be too balanced in my appraisals! : )
Caledonian Volunteer - I have to admit Caledonians aren't near the top of my must-buy list, at least in part because of my fear of painting tartan. That being said, there are a couple of things I really like about this mini; the facial expression, of stern Scottish chin jutting out, and also the posing of him carrying the HMG - it looks heavy. I think with a power-armoured guy, robot or whatever, you can get away with the unrealistic poses with massive weaponry with an explanation of, "well yeah, just" but the sculptor doesn't have that luxury with someone who is obviously just a normal guy. Really great job on that account.
Penthesilea - It might be just my love of motorbikes, or being weened on Akira as a kid, but for me this is the best miniature that has been released of this year, by anyone. By far, I can't put my finger on why exactly I like it so much, but I think a combination of things - the way she has just two fingers hovering over the break, the upturned toe of her boot, the cold mechanical stare of the rider, the way that the swing arm is coming straight off the engine casing (even some thought has gone into the future technology). Just.... wow.. Even if I didn't play Infinity I would buy this model just to paint, and it deserves to be a poster boy for this game.
The only thing I can think of that's negative about it is that I had to open another window to copy-paste her overly long name, and then accidentally closed the window I was typing in because I had too many tabs open!
Caliban - Nice, again I don't collect Shasvastii but I love the style they've got going for them. Nice that 'Caliban' looks almost daemon like, is that a Karikuri head on his sword?
PanO Support Pack - Always liked that doctor model, and thought it was one of the best amongst the other faction equivalents. How do these packs compare against buying the bits individually, is anyone aware?
Reverend Moiras - Not too sure about the relaxed, at ease posing. I guess you will either like it or not, it probably won't go down to well if you are a fan of the more all-action models. They look like fun to paint though, I would probably give them a different colour scheme.
Anyway.. all of the other models pale in comparison to the mighty Penthesilea, that thing is an absolute work of art.

I can't seem to find mention of it anywhere on this board and the Infinity forum, but it was discussed at length on the O-12 podcast that Carlos noted that the Moira's were the first digital sculpts that have CB has undertaken.
No one has had any harsh criticism of the Moira's as of yet. So far most of the comments I have seen have been about 'why the update?' or 'not into Nun's with Guns'. CB must of got the digital sculpting right on these models if that is the general feedback so far.
I like the new Moira's a lot. Of course Angel's painting skill could make any lump of metal look good. The proportions look better than the old sculpts and aesthetic is clean and uniform. If I had one complaint is that they seem kinda samey in their features, look, expressions. I am sure they will explore the space with the digital medium as time goes on but that is only (minor) quibble I have.
