I think he looks good. I'm just wondering if, realistically, his turban fits in the helmet on his hip. I ask because the Sikh one of my friends worked with had to get hard hats adjusted for their turbans and the mini's helmet looks, well, very small.

Are you thinking perhaps of some large, Mars Attacks style helmet?

My only issue is that the religious iconography doesn't seem to fit. The Haqqislam, say, is devoid of religious iconography, and actually looks more often like your average metropolitan youth. Even the Pan Oceania religious orders aren't sporting much to identify, other than crosses and religious icons that have been painted on. Therefore, I wonder what the motivation is for making a figure that is explicitly religious.

I suppose part of it is to make it clearly identifiable as an Indian. But Hindus in Pan Oceania could be painted up without trouble, just giving them darker skin.

Are Sikhs part of the Infinity fluff? I suppose Kirpal is a Sikh hero of some sort?

I've only started collecting Infinity minis based on aesthetic appeal in the last few months. I haven't read much into the fluff yet.

BTW, there is little to no association between a Sikh and a coolie. One refers to a religious/cultural group (that many people actually are quite proud to be a part of), the other refers to Chinese males employed in work that basically amounted to slave labour. I don't think there's any need to worry that we'll see Yu Jing coolies on the battlefield any time soon.

Well you can count the cross visors for the religious orders as a quite obvious identification of religion, I do not think Haqq need to display religion, they are Haqq their religion is self evident the entire nation and its name is their faith.

If I recall it right, Sikh, are required from their religion to publicly display their religion.

Plus, there are several Haqqislam non-Sikh units that have turbans for non-religious purposes. Why is Singh the problem?

The male Tuareg even wears his turban on top of his helmet. Let's be happy Singh isn't like that.

Sikhs wearing turbans in military is not a new thing.

Spoiler:

If anybody, the Sikh character himself could have a turban.

Turban or whatever cool. if you like it ..
Myself culture or no culture rather see a sci-fi helm… not racist or anything else…
I think it looks stupid. Not the people on earth now. The Pistol wielding sci-fi guy in Armor with a turban.
do whatever you like that’s cool, I love the world.
But for Sci-fi… my MHO looks silly. I don’t really care if everyone else is on the politically correct embrace all culture train. I’d rather see a haircut or helmet.
And it’s not “too much stupid” as plastic trees said or racist… I just don’t like the look it’s a guy in sci-fi armor… wearing a turban…
But do what you like. No second head, no purchase for me. Unless someone gotta extra PanO head to trade.

i like that Infinity has kept modern Earth culture, and taken it out into the stars...
we have Scots, French, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and many more cultures represented...
i have never seen a Sikh out in public without a turban, so it makes sense to me, and he's a bad-ass mini...

in other news, i finally got my hands on the Paradiso book today...
what a beautiful piece of work...
just as nice as my first edition rulebook, and Human Sphere...
the Raicho, and Scarface, art is awesome...
it's so sad that the art always seems to outshine the mini, like the Szalmandra (sp?) art...
i'm looking forward to reading this book...

finally got my hands on the Prowler w/Spitfire mini, too...
i know, i'm behind the times, but it was out of stock everytime i ordered from The Warstore...
he has got to be one of the best Infinity, and Sci-Fi, minis ever...
bring on the next Dakka Infinty painting contest...

cheers
jah

I probably won’t unless… as I said it has 2 heads.
I also don’t buy any Ariadna models that wear Kilts or Ushanka for the same reason. It looks silly. At least no helm says “I got one just not on right now.”
But no need to get upset Charles. I can state my opinion contrary to the popular one right? I also don’t need to follow the PC herd Or maybe I’m just the guy with more testicular tenacity to speak what others might be thinking but not outright saying.

Kilts, Turbans, Ushanka in far-flung future warfare?
I get the cultural effect that’s being presented by doing these things and they might cut it in fantasy or historical gaming but not in sci-fi for me personally. lets put master chief in a dress! cool!

And again I feel like a better design choice could have been made. How about Hardline protective armor, different than a normal Bagh-Mari with a cooler than normal Bagh-mari helm…
“Screw it give him a turban” Merp… not model of the Year IMHO… but neither was William Wallace and his skirt wearing brethren, nor the Wulver getting crazy Legs Matrix over the wall- Yet looking out of place doing it. A few Infinity models are silly or ball dropped Just like the female wildcat with the bendy straw arm. That would have been a "Must buy" for me... seen the arm... never laid out the cash.

If I was in charge of Corvus I’d be very careful to ensure every model made my fans dip deep into their pockets and what the could not afford they will come back and purchase later. They should stop making even the occasional goofy model… including but not limited to bad action poses, armored guys in turbans, Kilts, Furry hats, Elves with gills, hard hats with flash lights on the front, gatchaman helms w panchos or a few other I can’t think of right now.

If it was me and I was project manager every model would be a "must buy". No Passes for weak designs.

Sometimes the choices that designers make and then Project managers OK, have to be lived with, and I’m allowed to say “Meh and here’s why I say Meh…”
What I’m saying has been said before… I’m still a big fan of infinity… I’m also a big fan of criticism informs a company and hoping they read and fix repeat issues. If this offends anyone ask yourself why before you spew any retort. Infinity could do much better and this is another example of Ball dropping.

They could’ve put a Sikh symbol on the armor and been good. Instead.. Turban armor guy Supreme! Wicked cool! Not…
Sikhs deserve the protection of helmets as much as any other ethnic group in PanO

And if I offend you…
put on a kilt and a turban… let me get full full body armor with night vision- exact same weapons and lets see who walks away alive.

It’s not intended to be culturally disrespectful some of this stuff is outright silly, makes no sense. It’s being done Just to make sure you know whos culture is whos..

Sikhs have been wearing turbans in combat since their founding, through World War I and II, and even in combat today. Those pictures I posted show that Sikhs are given special permission to break from military uniform to have a Turban in both the UN Peacekeepers and the US Military. It's believable that a character would have a turban even in the future. Infinity adheres decently to a believable real-world future.

Sikhs deserve the protection of helmets as much as any other ethnic group in PanO
He's a character. The normal Sikhs have helmets.
Characters such as Joan d'Arc and Gabriel are helmetless while the Knights usually are. Achilles, Phoenix, Patroclus, and Ajax are all helmetless while the Murmidons usually are. Kusanagi is hoodless while the Moiras usually are.
In fact, I believe Al-Djabel may be the only named character without a thing on his head.

To ignorantly assume Sikhs wouldn't wear turbans to combat is wrong. To be fine with all other characters being helmetless and complain about Singh is just absurd.

You simply don't like the figure, sure. Just say that. Don't unsubtly drop terms like "Haji". It makes us Americans look bad when you're racist.

You know, this insulting disregard for everyone who doesn't have the same opinion as you is far more obnoxious than your stance on the mini. A turban on a Sikh is appropriate. You don't like it, you're welcome not to buy it. As you said, you don't intend to buy it. So we have absolutely no need to have an argument unless you go looking to have one by insulting people as being part of a "PC herd" or suggesting they have less "testicular tenacity" than you. They're man-dollies. Which mandolly you choose to buy does not prove you have bigger testicles.

It’s not intended to be culturally disrespectful some of this stuff is outright silly, makes no sense. It’s being done Just to make sure you know whos culture is whos..

Actually, that's not correct. There is a long history of both Kilts and Sikh turbans being worn in leiu of standard-issue equipment in military units. Even today, there are countries where Sikhs are excused from helmet laws and requirements. These models are sculpted with these things because that's actually how people in militaries have dressed. There's no need to insult people who enjoy that bit of realism in the figures.

Read my quote. I included the furry Russian hats too but that list can included berets, field caps

I really think those look stupid too. So maybe it’s just my desire to see Cool Helms. Cause I never did like models wearing Berets or Field caps… I also think those are dumb looking… it’s not about the real world and who wears what. It’s about not making silly models. I just don’t like the idea that a super cool Bagh-Mari helm was sacrificed for a turban.. if it was a silly fur hat or a beret it’d be the same (see the above post quote for my listed fur hat hatred)

Who wants to turn it into some kinda racial ignorance thing. But I hate fur hats too… WTF I’m an ignorant racist because I think a hat looks stupid on a model? Feel it takes away from what it could have been…

My thing is easy Infinity makes odd decisions on what they do with what would have otherwise been a cool model. You don’t like it cool. You love it cool. You want an army of Kevlar Combat Kilts, Bullet resistant berets, or Missile deflecting Iron core turbans, that’s you. For me it’s just another model I won’t buy (unless it has 2 head) rather see a bare head OF ANY RACE. Than a Turban, Beret, Strawhat, Fuzzy raccoon skin, baseball cap, Dew rag, top hat or any other goof ball design for a Sci-Fi Game… Much Cooler things could be made for me to buy than that.
Same thing goes with silly poses….

Maybe it’s my desire to see the most awesome Sci-Fi armor. I own a ton of Infinity stuff none of them are wearing Stupid little hats of any Sort… Am I ignorant because I think the turban looks stupid… not at all.

If it looked cool everyone would wear their turbans, or berets, or Ushankas when they went out for a night on the town… but there silly little hats, the lot of em’.

Like I said Master chief in a Beret, Turban or Ushanka… or Master chief in a Kilt… no one can concede that point then cool buy em’ out of stock make a whole army of em’ I’ll be over here waiting on non-Silly posed, Silly hat wearing Sci-fi models don’t mind me.

funny how I have to defend such a simple opinion.

It's the turban that why...

if I said his silly little Beret (Saying he had one) no one would've been offended... WTF is that about? That’s what I mean by PC weakness...

anything else and no one bats an eye...

but it's a turban and here come the crusaders! with pictures of guys with turbans and rifles... Oh Never Seen that before!!! with this war on terror and all the fighting in the mid east Thank you for the Awesome education. On Soldiers with Turbans. I Had No Idea the 2 mixed…
(@ Who ever posted the picture and to the 2 guys that keep talking about turbans replacing modern gear BLABLA BLA)

Lets end this easy…

Too bad it wasn’t a custom Bagh-Mari helm… I would buy that.

Hajji means pilgrim (one who has completed the Hajj). just because jarheads use it as a derogatory term does not invalidate the original meaning.

Back on-topic, turbans are not going anywhere- they're a very fixed part of Sikh culture. Unless you're wearing a tight-fitting helmet made by another culture, you wear a turban. I live near the port in Seattle, and a whole lot of the truck drivers here wear turbans, as do the cabbies. I'm talking Dickies workwear and a turban, or a utility jumpsuit and a turban,or a business suit with turban, etc. It's not an affectation.

As for the symbol on the turban, sometimes they leave the quoit (the round thingy, actually a reference to a sacred weapon) out of it. It's kind of like the many subtle variations on the Christian cross within Catholic symbolism.

None of these things are derogatory or cartoonish to include on the figure IMO, or probably in the O of anyone else who encounters Sikhs a lot.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

I think the miniature is AWESOME and hope that they release a re-sculpt box of Akalis soon! This guys is above and beyond the old models! I'd love to see what other older units would look like with new sculpts, such as orc troops?

I think ORC troops can still get some mileage... but the revised AD armour is really gorgeous, the Akalis do deserve a resculpt.

Some misterious teaser image in Magabotato.
Something about a new Bounty Hunter named "Max Skorpio".
It appears next to the ITS logo. It seems that mercenaries will become a faction on its own and will be playable in tournaments.

That is really cool!

From what we know Mercenaries will become a faction, or at least sectorial with the next book, Scarface and Cordelia belong after all to the white stars, would be awesome to see some mercs in advance.

I hope this Magabotato Infinity Month will have lots of info. Seeing this Mercs stuff, totally unexpected, is really exciting. Also I hope we will be able to understand it, English is ok for me, but German... D:
