Subject: INFINITY News & Rumors - Gecko, Iguana and Morats (Gen Con!) on Pg.193!
I've spent much more time in this thread and especially xwing than robotech in the past months. Stuff is still on schedule supposedly but the company keeps making constant easily preventable and unfriendly missteps. I keep telling myself that the most important thing is getting the minis in the end at the quality previewed and that these intermediate bumps are just annoying temporary setbacks.
The possibility of Robotech being delayed and my finishing of my 40k and Heavy Gear hobby projects for the forseeable future has me looking at other games. The prices of infinity turned me off when it initially came out but now they're not as outrageous now (they started high but haven't risen much). The cheesecake anime nature didn't appeal too much to me but the variety of styles has increased as well over the years. The more recent TAGs like scarface and anaconda have sparked my interest against despite the little mini-me arms. They haven't made me excited enough to jump in (especially with new rules apparently coming next summer) but the Gecko might depending on the sculpt.

Or more likely the "Human Sphere" book we known about for a year. The one with 2 new sectional per faction, and new rules, skill, and equipment. Sound like a huge update to me.
Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

Infinity rules are well tuned and work fine, I am not sure how the "new rules" thing came up, in any case the game rules will not see a drastic change, so anybody learning to play the game now, will still know how to play the game in a years time.

Ultimately it doesn't really matter to me, but I've always been curious about just how much cost really factors in for people when it comes to Infinity.
When you compare them to GW, they compare favorably.
But then, so do a lot of other companies' efforts.
Free rules help a lot.
I mean, how much 40K would $150 get you vs. Infinity - especially in terms of truly playable forces?
Ultimately I think it comes down more to aesthetics, materials (metal remains a turn off for many) and ease of finding opponents.
Hopefully as CB continues to experience such massive growth one of those things will become less of a problem.
At least that's what I'm hoping for!

I'll let someone else explain it as I can't rewatch it at the moment and my knowledge of the current goings on with infinity is limited. As an outsider to the game but long time wargamer, his interview sounds very much like talking about a new edition and not just a campaign/army/splat/whatever book. YMMV.

Let me put it this way. There is ONE, count that ONE person who writes the rules and fluff, no one else. He is currently writing and play testing all the cool new thing everyone keeps posting about. Unless stopped sleeping were are not getting a rule rewrite.

There were similar sort of comments before Human Sphere came out i.e. game changing new rules etc. I doubt if CB will be doing a full re-write of the rules that are basically the same as the original rule book.
Nothing noteworthy regarding next years upcoming rulebook. He said that players expecting new rules and rules tweaks would both be happy. Carlos did say Dire Foes will have special missions that will be released Soonâ„¢
Otherwise it was 1/4 showing off the artbook, 1/4 sales pitch, 1/4 talking about the US market and 1/4 talking about the new rulebook.
He did mention that the rapid growth they saw in the last 2 years is contributing to the supply problems and the line has over 500 models now. Also a blurb about Corvus Belli's original start as a historical mini manufacturer and they were partly inspired by Rackham.

Have signed up for the Warcors newsletter - I don't organise anything like enough events to qualify (you need to do one per month) but I've run a few events in the past and CB are really great for supporting with loads of free stuff to give out at them.
Hopefully this will really help the game to gather pace, but as Kan and others on here have said they really need to ensure the supply network (chiefly in the US) can keep up the pace.
New Bootlegs are now available for pre-order at Wayland Games, starting from £10.58 for the Maghariba and Lizard pilots with an expected shipping date of 30th August.

Well 150$ in 40k gets you models, 150$ in Infinity gets you a fully playable force with extra models.

I would argue that the Infinity models would be better looking as well. But that's just personal opinion, yours may vary.

Going a bit off topic hence the spoiler, but here is a nice 300 pts list quite effective and under 125$ at RRP at a retailer or LGS it will probably be even cheaper
I will say again that I do not read from that short interview any drastic as a rules reboot, I think people see too much were they should not and ignore that things they should look, even better ITS, and Acheron Falls (working title) coming.
I'm considering doing it myself, down here in the South Coast Massachusetts area, but I need more info first.
One 'event' a month? Surely that can't be...one tournament a month?!?
That would be... hard to accomplish in many places.
And would probably lead to burnout pretty quickly too...

AFAIK it counts demos and other activities as painting challenges. I think they are thinking in the new events they are developing for 2014 ITS season.

Hey PS-
Respectful counterpoint here. Interestingly enough we were discussing this very issue last night with a returning GenCon player from our local group.
Yes, the Infinity rules are quite well-tuned, including the core mechanics (very tight curve effects), and the balance between forces.
However, even with skilled players there are a LOT of turn-one-player-one beatdowns, enough to be Infinity's one major defect from many players' point of view. From TAGs with HGLs to massed AD troops to Nomad GML, there are a fair number of unbalancing strategies that shorten the game and make it less fun, and most of these are turn-one killers. Yes, if you survive those cheap-shots you will generally be able to maul the other player. But surviving them is really really difficult in several notable cases (see aforementioned list). But beyond discouraging that sort of play from a meta level, there's not really a good mechanism to prevent the high number of turn-one-player-on beatdowns, especially if skill levels differ.
A few small tweaks might help balance those out. Things like preventing the use of AD 2 or 3 by the first player on their first turn (a disadvantage that would help balance out the massive first-turn advantage on a 4x4 table). Or like making indirect fire slightly less lethal (+3 ARM on saves against indirect fire, say). Small stuff like that.

It's very likely that the designer(s?) already have a decent list of such possible improvements that have emerged over the years, which would shorten the time required to design, test, and publish them. Given the obvious unified vision behind Infinity's ruleset (one of its very strong points), I think the "New rules would take too much developer time!" argument is invalid. The core materials for some helpful tweaks (a rewrite is not needed, just tweaks) are probably already created. And given the way that CB bundles rules and new units in their various books, they will probably come out with Acheron Falls or whatever the next book may be. Just IMO, but an opinion shared by a bunch of my fellow Infinity-fans.

Umm.... that just it CB already dose just that. Look at Paradiso, tweaks of the rules, without writing a new core book. But, it look like you miss the part were I said it likely in the next book and there not doing a "3rd ed" any time soon. So what are you pointing out?

Since we were talking about bootleg not too long ago... I've been looking at thai resin casts of PVC characters and came across this. Not sure if it's already come up before or not. The Asuka model is obviously an inspiration for Maghariba (who is a beautiful model, btw).

That said, you eventually reach Full Thrust levels of cross-referencing, making a new edition something you need for consolidation alone. Hell, with the current amount of errata and clarifications available (and updates from Human Sphere and Paradiso), I think Acheron Falls may finally push it to the point where they need everything consolidated back in to one document (not the army lists, that is asking a bit too much). But having all of the new and updated rule inline with the core rules (plus a few extra tweaks as they did in the last edition update) would make things a lot friendlier for new players.
My guess is we will probably see some kind of consolidation book either a bit before the next splat-book or some time after. They have already been doing a lot of the updating and fixing using the Wiki and various releases. But it is getting to the point where those who aren't wired during their games have to reference a lot of material during play.
I think a 3rd Edition would be a good plan at some point. Introduce the fixes and tweaks from the FAQ/Errata and source books in to core and fix some of the current endemic problems with the game (as they did with 2nd Edition when they tweaked things to make striking in to deployment zones harder). I agree with Savnock that the game still has a few degenerative strategies (mostly first-turn maulings) that could use some core fixes as well as a few point-costing issues (MULTI Rifles being still fairly under-powered for the price, HMGs being too good for the price in most cases, etc.).
And to say nothing of a few units in need of tweaking and updating due to running in to hiccups in the point system (though those are easy enough to handle in new books as they have been doing).
But after Acheron Falls drops, I think we will be in need of a new edition just to keep the core rules straight and centred. I don't know how my group would manage without me and my tablet looking for wiki entries during games.

It will most likely be something like the other programs that are out there. 1 Event a month will most likely be demos, leagues, campaigns, tournaments, and painting competitions at the "most". At least, it will be "weekly infinity night".

I'm actually with you, I don't think a 3rd edition is coming.
But to date, from the second ed core book through Human Sphere and Paradise, rules additions have mostly been just that- additions. Little add-ons. Not much alteration/refactoring of the central rules.
I'm guessing that a slightly-more-pervasive change is coming, although not a full new edition. Some tweaks to the initiative process, or a set of pretty broad changes to things like AD etc. (or possibly just one or two central mechanics like Initiative). Not a full rewrite, but a lot more than adding things like CaseVac and Haris.
Also, here's another conjecture/hope: If they add new sectorials that use the best of the units that are currently only available in "vanilla" lists right now (and which make those lists worth fielding), there will be little reason left to field "vanilla". Things like Hac Tao or Tankhunters. So they may either add more incentive to the vanilla lists (like a special rule giving some advantage), or they may add link teams to vanilla lists. That's an advance that's not hard to see as pretty likely.
...Pure conjecture, but Infinity has followed a certain arc so far, and we could see some of the Paradiso stuff coming (like more than one link team in some armies).

No need to guess CB said all units in the first 2 books were planned with sectionals in mind. Only the Exrah didn't sell good enough to for this plan (still I hope there get one, they get my money). Haris was also said was getting wider use sometime in the future. But if you think AD and initative need changing, you might need to think about table layout. They don't need changing, hell AD just need 1 line added to end the problem it seem to cause one way or the other, dispite nearly everyone playing it the right ways any ways.

Have we had much confirmation about what's in the Morat starter, besides the Oznat and updated Vanguards (who's armour looks way too chunky for their paltry stats - although i dig the new rifles)?
