With only three of them, it's unlikely Aleph or Haqqi will get one (which means they'll have to 'acquire' one through other means).

The first 3 are Aleph, Haqqislam and Yu Jing.

They also plan to do at least one per faction.
Scratch all that. I am very, very excited.

I would have thought some Nomads catbus boobship would have been a higher priority.

All depends on what Corvus Belli approves. They redid concept art for CB to approve and the 3 that were approved were the old Grendel, Harrier and Krokodil.

This is the preliminary Haqqislam dropship, based off the original Grendal design.

Spoiler:

Aleph, based on the original Harrier.

Spoiler:

Yu Jing Azure Dragon.
Spoiler:

This is the original Krokodil that the Azure Dragon is based on.
Spoiler:

The Azure Dragon is the only one we've seen final CB approved designs for.

I really like the Azure Dragon. I recall Antenociti had shown off a fourth concept that looked extremely blocky with some very large guns. I have a feeling if that one ever got approved, it'd wind up as the Nomads ship.

I'm actually not that fond of the Azure Dragon. I'm so glad the Grendel wound up as the Haqqislam dropship, it was my favourite of the three. The Harrier is neat as well.

I'm slightly disappointed they're not expanding on the dropship rules. I feel they could have made them an actual entry for every list without breaking the game if they really wanted to. But I'll enjoy having it as a piece of badass terrain and can't wait to see any scenarios that come from it (I'd really dig an evacuation type scenario).

It's probably me being selfish but I wish the Grendal design had been put aside for use later as the Ariadna dropship.. because to my eyes it looks perfect just the way it is. It just needs a couple of Kazak's fast-roping from the troop compartment!

Iirc they said the Ariadna dropship would be closer to a modern helicopter. Though is guess without a rotor.

Ariadna dropship: more along the lines of an enclosed main rotor/rotors, like the RDA gunship from Avatar.

Although I had hoped the Grendal would be theirs. I really like that design.

Someone on the Infinity forums pointed out that there are rules for Dropships in the book already. They're generic, and don't allow any offensive uses, but do allow a model to be used on the board.

Sort of. They're 'opponents permission' and have varying levels of transport capacity based on the unit type being transported.

But as I said, I'm disappointed they didn't expand on them. There's ways to expand their role without breaking the game, and it's a shame they didn't explore them, even if they wanted to leave them as opponents permission.

So.. guys.
IF I want to start Infinity... what should I do first?
I've watch the videos from Corvus Belli, but that's just not enough to convince me.

Random battlereports are no good for me for they are way too hard to understand for someone who does not know any rules.

Should I get the rules and read them?

...yeah. That would make sense if the other two don't work out for you.

I would recommend reading the rules then going back to the Videos for visual explanations of the different rules.

Are the quickstarter rules any good?
I've started with Warmachine and their QS rules and in the end I would've prefered to have started with the full rules. I think it's just better to get the whole picture from the beginning.

I'm a big fan of the Beasts of War quick start rules - involve the use of the basic mechanics of the game, and will get you playing with proxies quickly.

In my view, other than the models the number 1 selling point of Infinity is the game mechanics, so it's a good place to start.

Then, of course the Dakka beginner's guide thread!

I'll say this - reading the rules, watching the Infinity videos and reading some battle reports only gives you a glimpse into what playing it is like. It would be much better if you could rope a friend in, buy a starter box each, and have a crack at it together.

The game didn't click for me until about my 5th game, and reading and watching the available material before hand, like you, didn't do much for me. Playing the game a few times to get used to the mechanics and flow of the game is really the best way to come to a decision about Infinity. And if all you buy in with is a starter each, it's no real loss if it's not your cup of tea.

Scenario-specific would be another way of describing it. They turn up in several of the Paradiso missions.

Almost certain it is not Tunguska but a redone starter, similar to the old one.

Basis: the silhouette second from the left seems to be the alguacile concept art that was bruited about last year.

Does indeed look like the male and female Alguaciles.

Male is 2nd from left. Female is 2nd from right.

Hmm.. so I wonder who has the Appleseed-style helmet side-antenna? And, Syndicate type guy in a trench coat on the right?

Very true - even if you don't like the game, at the very least you will have some cracking miniatures to paint.

Although - I do think it's probably a high likelihood that you will like the game!

The HI may very well be a new Mobile Brigada.

They're old models begging for a resculpt, and they're also Corregidor alongside the Alguaciles.

They're also AVA 5 in Corregidor with 3 profiles. They would be stupid to put it into a vanilla starter box considering there are no Corregidor link boxed sets.

Not seeing the logic there, Kan.

Put a Brigada into the PanO vs Nomads starter. They're HI, easy to use, and have no fancy rules aside from V: Courage. They're AVA: 2 in vanilla Nomads and you'll probably ever use one.

Plus, with Infinity v3, Mobile Brigada may very well be getting new profiles. Nomads aren't known for their HI, but with Brigada being pretty much the archetypal ones they have, it's a bit starnge they haven't been able to gain access to other profiles. They're from the original book, after all.

Want to use Corregidor? CB may release a Mobile Brigada boxed set of 4x so you can complete your AVA:5. Maybe add in an unarmed female version with boob-plate and cat-ears you can use as a hacker. Maybe have one with a shoulder-mounted Panzerfaust (or Blitzen if Book 2 weapons are allowed).

You know what also makes sense? A Kriza Borac. It's a new model type and it's supposed to be in N3.

Also what is so hard to see about the logic of the fact that Corregidor has no Link Team boxed sets? Each Sectorial (barring Corregidor and the Shasvastii both) have one.

Depending on how things work out (I'm thinking we'll see a Feuerbach or HRL Mobile Brigada), it could easily be done in a box of 4 and then a blister of 2.

The one rumored to have TO Camo? I highly doubt it belongs in a starter set. Mobile Brigada are pretty much as vanilla and straightfoward as HI can get.

Corregidor has no Link Team boxed sets. That's true. They has no bearing on whether Mobile Brigada could appear in the starter or not.

We have several instances where a Sectorial boxed set contains one-of a popular Link Team model (QK Odalisques, Hassassin Muyib, Myrmidon Hacker, etc (I also can't remember anything else, I only play Haqqi and Aleph)) whereas a 4x boxed set exists as well if you wish to complete the team.

Then you're cutting game mechanics out of the starter set for the sake of simplicity--which is a bit sillier than doing a gradual build-up.

QK starter box was literally just repackaging existing SKUs. Odalisque was a blister for quite some time.
The Myrmidon Hacker is ehhhh. The Myrmidon box has been out for so long that essentially she was just gapfilling for that box.
Muyib is a bit of a difficult thing to discuss though. I don't understand why he was not put into the Muyib box in lieu of the Spitfire, but hey whatever I'm not Corvus Belli.
