Are there any current or rumored 3e ally rules for Infinity? If for instance, you like the new Kum riders can you use them in any way outside of playing a Haqq force? I know they have some mercs in the game but that seems to be limited to certain models and not some sort of general ally rule from my casual readings.

I certainly wouldn't want to see this. Infinity right now is extremely well balanced due to unit selections a faction has coupled with their faction specific boosted attributes and/or tech. I'd hate to see what would happen to that balance if they let someone take allies. Even Kum - they're super fast units that have zero-v smoke launchers, in a faction that doesn't have a lot in the way of visors that can see through it. Throw them as allies in a faction that has better access to said visors... ugh.

They do have impressive WP, but not necessarily a lot of profiles that also have good bts and hackers. Or HD+. Kaplans would make sick hackers, alas.

I reckon V3 will be the time I jump into Infinity. Quick question for those of you in the know: will the main rulebook include all the necessary army lists and any applicable faction rules?

We don't know.

They've said that the 3rd edition rulebook will only encompass what was in the 2nd edition rulebook, and that Human Sphere and Paradiso would work seamlessly with it.

But they've also said they're changing stuff about, like hacking, CC, and even weapons, which is bound to change point values. Pretty sure they've actually said in a Q&A the sniper rifle has not only had range bands changed, but gotten cheaper. That will affect units from Human Sphere and Paradiso.

What I hope for is all unit profiles and weapon profiles to be in N3, but CB have stated Tohaa and Aleph won't be in it, so... who knows.

Hopefully they figure out a more elegant solution to what we have now - either juggling 3 books and a PDF, or over half a dozen PDFs.

So they haven't announced that there'l be more than one book?

Also, newb question: did the 2nd edition include army lists?

Nope. They're getting rid of the "current" mercenary rules(which were basically: If X is shiny and you like it, you can make a Mercenary force with lower AVA as long as the unit is from the Human Sphere and not Combined Army or Tohaa) and making what are effectively "Mercenary Sectorials".

That seems odd that they'd get rid of it but I guess from the link below that it wasn't tourney legal so was treated more as an "opponent's permission" type thing in practice rather than theory if 40k player habits cross over to infinity. I guess an army of the two types of figs I like most (geckos and Kum riders) won't really be possible.

There's already 3 books - the Core 2nd edition rulebook, and the expansions Human Sphere and Campaign Paradiso.

The idea behind N3 is to rewrite, retranslate and basically clear up the Core rules. Human Sphere added Link Teams, and a slew of new special rules and units, but didn't touch the Core rules. Paradiso added the Paradiso Campaign system and some new units and special rules, but didn't touch the Core rules.

N3 will only rewrite the 2nd edition Core rulebook. It won't touch anything from Human Sphere or Paradiso, apparently, and those books will remain useable for what they added (link teams, campaign system).

The grey area comes from changing weapons around, which will cause point changes, not to mention core rules like hacking and close combat. This will affect units in other books, either by directly changing their points by changing the points of a weapon they have (like the previous example of Sniper Rifles getting cheaper - every unit with a sniper rifle will need an updated points listing), or indirectly through core rules changing (hacking getting expanded could make hackers more expensive, CC getting expanded could make CC oriented units more expensive).

This raises questions about how they will update the points for units added in Human Sphere and Campaign Paradiso, since they've said they aren't touching those books, and won't include Aleph or Tohaa in the 3rd edition rulebook at all (as the books add to the fluff as they go, those forces weren't known in the core rulebooks fluff).

Ah, so those books will remain current, but the points associated may change. Right, that's clearer, thank you.

One more newb question (I do apologise for them). I'm wanting to get a PanO Military Orders and an Aridanda Highlander sectorial armies. Which book would I be needing to get all the stats, rules and fluff for these?

Thanks for all the info, it's been a great help.

Short answer all of them and none.

Long answer.

CB provides for free the rules and army lists in the form of PDF from their site, they also provide an online army list building software again available from their site, so no books are necessary to have the rules or the army lists.

If you are interested in the fluff or simply want books all books are relevant, the main book for the sectorials is Human Sphere but Paradiso includes additional troops for the sectorials and fluff.

You don't need any! That's the great thing. You can go download all of that, right now, from CB's website in the downloads section.

If you want the books, you'd need all 3 for those, as they have units spanning all books. But obviously, I'd wait a couple of months to buy the core rulebook.

This is the main problem with Infinity - army lists, unit profiles and weapon ststs are spread across multiple books and PDFs (for units added after Paradiso). Even if you go the downloaded PDF route, they're in even more PDFs, as there are separate unit listing, weapon listing and rule PDFs for each book.

This is the one thing I wanted them to fix with N3, but it appears they're not. When a new player asks about the game and what PDF's to download, it's pretty daunting to see the laundry list of PDF's you need.

Thanks for posting the interview Mickey. Working on N3 Since May 2012? That is a hell of a lot of playtesting then. Good to hear.

Custom D20s. Cool! And ~$125-$135 at normal retail, so... $100-$110 with a 20% off from the usual sources. Not at all unreasonable. But since I do not want the Cosplay Bolt, It will be cheaper to buy the box and Alt-penny from Miniature Market or elsewhere than at GenCon. So I wait a little longer.

In all fairness, the Reverend Custodier is probably the best hacker. Which is why my Fiday always wants to make a bee-line for her. Which makes my Barid very happy. QK hacking OTOH, is kind of meh.

Perhaps the Numair, a unit which Bostria mentioned last year? Or the Mukhtair? To speculate belatedly.

And that is not a Surface of any sort. It is a Wacom Cintiq 22HD touch.

I know - I mean, it even says Wacom on the front - however a Cintiq 22HD is a little out of my price range. But a Surface Pro 2? Well, okay, that's out of my price range too. But.. less so

Safe bet since they said the MAF starter price is not changing. SO my guess is they will all increase to the cost of the MAF starter.

I need to go supply my nerd rage bunker, since I expect that announcement is going to cause quite the storm.

On the link, top post on their facebook, hit the see more button to see the English post.

Pretty much on August 1st the Official board will no longer allow you to post (but will stay up) on Oct 1 it will be brought down permanently. And Data-Sphere and Warcors will be the 2 main "forums" for Infinity going forward.

I'll post the Google translation in the absence of anything better - it sounds like a permanent move.

Well.. I think this is a big move.

I'm a member at Datasphere - I enjoy that it seems more relaxed and with less confrontation than the official forums, but at the same time that is a big ask to make it the official forum for Infinity players.

From what I can gather, InfinityWarCors is a Spanish language forum.

Now.. I do wonder whether the official forums have had anyone working on them for some time. You'd get stuff like the player-made mission links, which was based on the previous version of the forum, yet had never been updated (so none of the links worked). It had been like that for ages, and maybe in that sense this is why they are being removed from the official site, in that they weren't being handled particularly well.

Overall, I'm not convinced this is a positive step, and I still think it would be nice if CB could find someone from their staff to work with the forum. They've got links with some quite talented computer people (look at Devil Team with the online army builder for instance). They already had moderators working for free (I presume), so surely it couldn't have been that big a step to keep it for the 'hardcore' fans that regularly use the forum, even if this is happening as some kind of website relaunch?

There is also a danger here that CB could be seen to 'doing a GW', of cutting off an avenue of contact to their player base. Now I know Bostria and some other CB guys post on Data Sphere, and I know from their output (and actually, from having spoken to them personally) that they try and give the fans what they want, but I'm talking purely about customer perception here and it's almost certain that it's going to be negative.

I can't either. Not sure if they intend to have one or use Data-Sphere as the English outlet.

And it would be nice if we could generate more Infinity Traffic, but I think we are at a bit of a disadvantage since most of the other major Infinity Community sites (forums) do Infinity articles. Perhaps if we could find some talented writers maybe we could draw more players in.
