Already pre-ordered my copy of Op:Icestorm and very looking forward expanding it with Interventors.

I'm even considering the chance of buying another Icestorm box with the pre-order miniature and sell it on Ebay when they sold out because I'm an evil guy.

Anyway... Seems like this is the best CB product ever. IMHO something they have done so late. This kind of awesome stuff should have been done years ago.

I'm not so much into PanO but I'm sure I will find time to enjoy those miniatures after winning so many battles with the Nomads.

If that information about CB selling more "Icestorm" boxes than GW's "Stormclaw" is true... then I rise my glass and salute Corvus Belli. They deserve my attention, my money and my time.

Where did you hear that? Great news if true.

As for stuff getting replaced...

Grenzer replacing Securitate & Zuyongs replacing old invincibles. I can't see either being true.

Securitate are the analogue to Alguacils or Moderators for Tunguska. Like PanO's 3 types of grunts for 3 sectorials: Fusiliers, Ancontecimento Regulars & Order Sergeants.
Eliminating old Invincibles would be like discontinuing Mobile Brigada, ORC troops, or Janissaries. They're the base HI choice for an original launch faction.

Grenzer is vaguely similar to the Corregidor Intruder. While Nomads have oodles of nasty sniper units, they don't yet have one without some expensive fancy equipment. I'd venture that Grenzer will be a fairly cheap (as Nomads go) sniper option without tons of cloaking gadgetry.

Zuyong are likely light & cheap HI choice with a statline more like that of a MI. I'm thinking similar to wu ming, different in fluff & equipment choices. Hopefully Sun Tze can link with them; his armor is obviously similar. Cheap drones with 2W? With an extra lieutenant order to burn on the link? can't wait!

Well I'm in , just ordered it through miniaturemarket.com. I haven't even considered this game before, but I'm so tired of GW and the models look great.

Soemthing else to remember at this point is that vanilla lists are going to start getting a bit of bloat with similar units. It's already happening and has been for a while, a good example outside of the obvious line infantry is in Haqqislam, the difference between the Ahl Fassed and Jannisarys is simply the Religious skill and equipment (base AP rifle for each differs in secondary weapon - either light shotgun or light flamethrower). Looking at the HMG profiles, they're identical aside from Jannisarys having Religious. Jannisarys are, however, linkable in a sectorial.

It's going to happen more now, factions are getting quite big. CB aren't afraid to have very similar units if they differ mostly just in fluff. Better if they differ in fluff and make more sense in another sectorial as well because of it.

Just a thought & question here.

ORC trooper has no sectorial to call home.
What are the chances they'll be part of Svalarheima?
Or are they exclusively bound to vanilla PanO lists?

The fluff on their website tells you almost nothing about their back story.

Gathering the Informations.

There are two Sectorials coming for PanO. The ORC Troopers could very well be part of either one.

Varuna could have ORC Troopers since sealed, environmentally controlled armor would have its uses in counterterrorism operations undersea--but since ORCs don't have Aquatic Terrain it is more likely they will be part of Svalarheima.

Unless we see an Earth Bastion Army.

I think he's mixing it up with something else Wayland Games said which is that "Operation Icestorm has outsold 7th edition's first few days".

Haha Theophany, it'll be ok! I'm getting it too and I've still got nearly 20 infinity minis already that need paint! (not to mention various kickstarters..... =/). At least you got it at a discount and aren't being over the top like me and springing for the completely unnecessary extra models just because

I hadn't painted much metal for a long time till I started in on my Infinity stuff, but I'm quite enjoying it. Nice sharp hard edges to work with.

Do we have any glimpse at what N3 may have done to CC yet?
My domaru need to bathe their blades in the blood of the enemy!

Somebody must have gotten their hands on the starter rules & not been sworn to silence.

There wouldn't be a father knight & rev. healer with big shiny swords if they didn't want us to see CC in the new rules!

It's not that they are discontinuing the invincible, it's just that many people believe that essentially the current invincible's full name is the zuyong invincible. As it stands, why would you ever use the current invincible over a Shang ji?

Just as they dumbed down all the Multi-Rifles to plain Combi-Rifles, no LFT for Mobile Brigada, Multi- Sniper Rifles to plain Sniper Rifles; did they make CC simple in the starter by using plain CCWs?

Because Infinity is not a number crunching game. Same argument is used for Qapu Khalki - why would you ever use Sekban over Kaplans or Odalisques.

Because using them isn't going to lose you the game. Using 'better' units isn't going to win you the game. You being bad at the game will lose you the game, and you being good at the game will win you the game.

Short of making a list that simply cannot win, like an ITS list with very few or no specialists, your list isn't what is going to win you the game, and there's mechanics in place (critical hits, face to face rolls) that make even great units weep before the might of a grunt with a rifle.

Would anyone using vanilla PanO use ORC troopers instead of the wealth of better newer cooler HI choices?
Mebbe now that there's a new one that nearly every new player will have by default, yes they will.
*shrug*
I'm curious about any chance they'll redo the old invincibles cuz they so ugly. Of the oldest models left out there they're some of the worst.

A bit of a false comparison. The basic PanO ORC is extremely cost effective. 40 points and 2 SWC for a BS14 HMG? Even PanO's elite HI don't come near that efficiency.

An Aquila is basically the same thing, with 1 BS and MSV3, for 20 points more. If you don't need the MSV, the Orc is better.

For YuJing, they just need the same treatment that the Suryats got for Morats, generic HI that then got modified a little into slightly specialized HI.

There's a big difference between being able to make use of any unit and tying you hands because point for point one unit is objectively worse than another. If two units cost the same and one has better stats, taking the worse unit is foolish. Sekban do fill some niches that odalisques and kaplans don't, but are too situational to see wide use. I expect them to be recosted a smidge.

But not a handicap, simply due to the mechanics of the game. Which is why you do see such units get use.

ORC are not bad. Hard to find anything better for fire support and they are priced just enough to allow some other choices I might want to run.

I like those Ghulam just fine. Hacker pose is like Icestorm Alguacil pose, more or less-- rifle down, finger pointing. Glad to see the box is 50%-50% too. Now I can field a nice Ghulam link.

200? Whoa, but Wayland sells to all of Europe too, no? Maybe my estimate of 500 sales in August was way too low. Ah well, I somehow don't mind being wrong about it.

Wayland is also a distributor for many small stores, so there's no guarantee that all the sales are simply private individuals.

We are not a distro of Infinity. At the moment Ice storm is outselling 7th edition in its first few days.

Strange. There have been others who said that they use you as "their distributor" before.

Or am I thinking of another UK company?

We Distro lots of other ranges but not Infinity. SMG are the UK distro of Infinity.

Rich, any chance you could give us further info on how much Ice storm is shifting in comparison to 7th ed? Is the difference significant? Would you say 7th Ed was particularly unpopular, Icestorm particularly popular or a combination of the two?

I'd be interested to hear about it.

When you want to take a unit with an HMG. Or a shotgun. I think most faction's basic HI with boarding shotgun options will get a lot more mileage in 3rd edition with the proposed changes (assuming there isn't a big price hike for 4 - 4). I know i'm looking at my BS Ahl Fassad in a completely different light based on what i've heard so far.

The state of affairs with GW is so sad. They have a great IP, but Things have gotten out of hand in the last 5 or so years.

I hope CB will rein in over ambitious spirits as Infinity gains popularity.
Icestorm has been reassuring in this regard. Keep the miniatures metal & the rules elegant yet cryptic.

A lot of Aleph stuff turns me off because of the too-casual-looking trousers.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”
