Did they elaborate on CCW types in O:I ?
Just as they dumbed down all the Multi-Rifles to plain Combi-Rifles, no LFT for Mobile Brigada, Multi- Sniper Rifles to plain Sniper Rifles; did they make CC simple in the starter by using plain CCWs?

No new rules because of the simplification, yes,

but I can give you this:
Spoiler:

we can expect a lot of cool stuff from this

Excellent! Even if it's simply an extra swing for using 2CCW. Neko & Miyamoto certainly deserve better than to whiff against a dirty ghulam & get knifed in the back.

^^^No they don't. However, burst CCW's? Hmm, sounds promising, and wondering if this has something to do with the missing pistols from the Icestorm profiles...

CB seems to have been a bit disingenuous when they announced N3. It's a bit more than just a better written and translated ruleset. Quite a bit more. Me gusta.

Thamyris... Ah well, I don't play ALEPH, so...

And have I missed the list of forthcoming previews for August? Apart from Yojimbo. Which is enough for me really.

Edit: added the bit about Yojimbo.

In the final BoW O:I video this week Carlos got very excited at the mere mention of retooling hacking & expanding their abilities in N3.

As it stands now I rarely get to use hackers & they certainly feel like wasted points when I field one :-/...

Even a Custodier? I take one in every list

So many games, so little time.

So many models, even less time.

Screw it, Netflix and chill.

Rich, any chance you could give us further info on how much Ice storm is shifting in comparison to 7th ed? Is the difference significant? Would you say 7th Ed was particularly unpopular, Icestorm particularly popular or a combination of the two?

I'd be interested to hear about it.

For us Icestorm has now outsold 7th Edition

7th edition has done about 50% of the numbers 6th edition did in the same period.

I wonder if that will change now that you have the new version of Dark Vengeance which is, I suppose, a closer comparison with the O:I boxed set? No scenery but a full rulebook and a lot more models.

I'm not sure if that makes me proud for CB, or just sad for GW

Edit: Unless by 7th edition you actually mean the new Dark Vengeance and not the 7th edition rules set.

I disagree.... My hackers always do well, like stoping 70-ish pt Asura killing rampage, from safe location....or stealing enemys TAGs.

It all depends if you play with Ariadna or other hord list, than yeah...those points can be spend better, but elite list(HI ect) can be hit badly by good use of hacker.

Will BOW cover hacker changes soon? or we have to wait till grand opening of 3E?

Stealing enemies' REMs? I'm pretty sure you can only IMM a REM; POS is reserved for TAGs, right? (to be fair, my interaction with hackers is usually reserved to shooting them )

If I recall correctly, they said they would be making another Infinity Week when the N3 rulebook comes out. So I believe we will have to wait a bit for that.

Signs are pointing to the QSR for N3 coming out at GenCon. Lets hope they do some previews of the N3 rulebook also.

I would think that they want to exploit the sales of O:IS with N3 soon after.
All those new players that have had a taste of the rules, and see all the bad ass minis out there, will want to dive in to the full rules for their factions and the game pretty quickly.

Putting out the N3 Rulebook within a month or 2 of O:IS would be the prudent move to retain momentum for it's release and sales.

With the Warcors building up hype in the month of August, I expect N3 preorders in September, tbh.

Or they could think that the N3 Rulebook could bite into sales of O:IS if released too closely in that existing players desperate for a taste of v3 might buy the starter as well. I could easily see them releasing the full rulebook around two months or so after Icestorm as it gives the average player enough time to run through all the missions there as well as a few pick up games before going to the next and final level of complexity.

POS a TAG is near to impossible VS a good player I'm pretty sure this will change in N3
because right now it's more easy for a nomad to kill an ILO/TAG with combinated fire power, rather than hacking ...

Will there be alternate sculpts to them, though?

I'm considering picking up Icestorm as a starter to Infinity / Pick-up with mates.

Its not so bad if you have EVO but I hope hackers will get a boost. I like that undirect approach....GITS style.

Yes, the Exclusive Father-Knight and Reverend-Healer are only exclusive models to the O:IS box. There will be other sculpts for them in 3rd edition. No clue when they will be out though.

I've been reading this thread for months and getting quite excited with each release but not quite enough to fully jump in, but you guys have got me with Operation Icestorm, thanks I think.....

Pre-ordered and now looking at what minis to pick up after, all the GW models on my want list have taken a dive towards the bottom

Are TAGs the worst offenders when it comes to "rambo'ing" models? Or are some of those android supersoldiers on 40mm bases worse? Or something else that I'm not aware of to watch out for since I haven't played yet?

Can anyone that has preordered from CB direct via their online store let me know what your order status shows as ? I never got any email and it just shows status as preordered, which I assume it sits on until launch ?

They will, it's scary to look at Interventor's characteristics. I'm hoping CB will somehow make it balanced and fun for both players when it comes down to hacking ! So far I like the rule changes, yet I am still cautious with how they plan to change CC and hacking. I might need another Kamau hacker. :(

At least for Nomads hacking is possible and not so taxing on the orders, markers, hacking device plus, decent delivery of repeaters and incredible hackers. It's rather problematic for them, when opponents decide to run lighter force so they can't face the possibility of their HI or TAG shutting down when they needed them the most. However that's their current complain, feeling they wasted points on a unit that doesn't or can't do much.

AD2/HMG is more common at the moment in my experience. Costs less, making it easier to face it on lower point formats and should he die you're not loosing so much (Ragik is absolutely fantastic for this role).

From the always excellent MayaCast ( http://mayacast.com/2014/08/04/stat-and-point-cost-changes-in-n3-omens/ ):

Stat and Point Cost changes in N3 – Omens
Posted by Tom Schadle on August 4, 2014

Comparing the stats from the Operation: Icestorm rulebook (pg 25 and 27) with the Infinity Army Builder indicates that we are in for some widespread, yet subtle changes to the costs and abilities of our favorite units in Infinity Third Edition.

Some changes are universal. BTS becomes a positive stat – instead of seeing “BTS -3,” it will now simply read “BTS 3.” They have added the Silhouette stat (all Icestorm “human-sized” models are S: 2). Availability (AVA) is missing from the Icestorm rules, but I do not think that that means it is missing from the eventual, full profiles.

There are new abilities; they have told us what Kinematika will do (add 1″ to the ARO Dodge move at Level 1), but there is a new one on the new Father Knight called “Assault.” Also, there is a new weapon called a “Breaker Pistol” that the Father Knight, Grenzer, and Reverend Healer each come armed with.

Let’s look at the unit-by-unit stat and point cost changes between 2nd Edition and the “Full List” entries from Op: Ice…
PanO

Auxbots: Auxbots gain +1 Armor (up to 1 from 0), but their BTS goes from -3 to 0.

Akalis, Sikh Commando: Akals gain 1 point in CC (from 14 to 15) and their CCW becomes an E/M CCW. For these bonuses, they pay the penalty of costing one point less as they go from 23 points for the CombiRifle version down to 22.

Nisse: The Nisse MultiSniper used to cost 41. Now it costs 34. Otherwise, every stat is identical.

ORC Troops: Not only does the Orc receive a swanky new model, it gains a MOV boost up to 4-4 from 4-2. Otherwise, he’s the same for the same points. (I’d add 5 points just for the re-sculpt…)

Father-Knight: While he is obviously completely new, so we have no basis for comparison, he does have the new skills Kinematika Level 1 and Assault, and carries a new weapon called the Breaker Pistol. Also worth nothing, he has a CC value of 23 (What?!?) with a PH of 14 , ARM 5, and BTS 9 with 2 Wounds… At 43 points and 0 SWC for the Boarding Shotgun/DA CCW load-out.

Jotum: The monster TAG sports a Silhouette of 7, just like the Iguana – leaving levels 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 unaccounted for – plus anything over 7 we don’t know about yet.

The Jotum also loses Mountain Terrain it would seem… but is one point less now at 103.

Nomads

Interventors: The BTS of the Interventors goes from 3 to a whopping 9! They get the addition of a Fast PAnda, and only cost one point more (27 instead of 26).

Spektr: BT gets a bump to 3 from 0 and it adds Multiterrain. It loses the “+Light Shotgun” bit to its weapon, but does decrease from 33 pts to 31.

Grenzer: Again, another whole new profile. He sports the new Breaker Pistol – but what I find interesting is that Corvus has removed the product code for the “Securitate.” Will the Grenzer replace the Securitate in Tunguskan lore… Or does it merely usurp its place in the starter box, awaiting a brand new Securitate design? Time will tell.

Mobile Brigada: Oh MY, that new sculpt! He speeds up to a 4-4 MOV (from 4-2) and drops in price from 43 to 39.

Reverend Healer: She has that new Breaker Pistol, and reportedly can Link with either Moiras or Custodiers in appropriate Sectorials.

Iguana: Has a Silhouette of 7, and its Operator quickens to 4-4 from 4-2.

Sure looks like servo-enhanced fiber-bundle muscles help Heavy Infantry go faster in third edition!
