I agree with Kan (!!!) - I do not think Link Teams are really that complex to learn at all, especially compared with all the other rules you have to learn anyway when starting Infinity.

One of the events was a mission where you had to 'earn' the right to pilot your Raicho T.A.G.

How was this represented?

Maybe using Mierce minis too?

Plus this pic:

I'd have thought he'd have an even bigger crowd around him!

I will offer the dissenting opinion, vanilla factions are easier for new players as they have access to all the tools in the infinity toolbox. They don't have to learn how to play around a given sectorial's weakness while learning the basic rules of the game as well.

From a personal perspective, play the faction you like the models of most. Everything else will work itself out. Like only the Aleph greek models? Play the Steel Phalanx. Like the look of a whole variety of Haqqislam models? Play vanilla. You can do no wrong.

That should be the end of it, I'd imagine.

If I were interested in Aleph then my only question, as an uninitiated player, would be what's a Steel Phalanx?

Steel Phalanx is the sectorial for Aleph, which means you have access to less of the Aleph models than just vanilla Aleph, but access to more of those models, and some extra rules to make them better. For SP, this means you can use all the Greek themed models (Achilles, Ajax, Myrmidons, Thorakatai etc).

This is one of the reasons that limiting yourself to a sectorial as a new player isn't a good idea. Ignore anyone that says otherwise.

"Steel Phalanx" is the sectorial of Aleph focused around "Greek" models such as the named heroes, Myrmidons, Ekdromoi, and Thorakites.

If you like the look of the Asura, Dakini, Marut, etc, go with Aleph non-sectorial.

I don't people were saying 'limit yourself' to a Sectorial - more like, "don't worry about link team rules being too complicated, because they aren't".

I agree, I would go with miniature aesthetic and concept you like the most first.

Start with the 'starter' rules, either the downloaded ones or from the new starter set, play a handful of games with those, and then introduce the full rules.

It's great actually if you are learning the game at the same time as an opponent, you can have a mini arms-race where you both learn of devious things you can do in the rules, and then spring them on your opponent during the game..

Wow!

Would love to learn some more about the scenario that is used in, sounds very cool. Is that all Raichos fighting that thing, if so it must be massive!

I also like that BLOOD MAW must be written in capital letters at all times

Gathering the Informations.

It was a "Proving Ground" scenario, where Raicho pilots were engaging in their blooding rituals and fighting those monsters with no weapons.

Two really interesting pics for comparison

And

The crate next to angel's book is the low crate in the first picture, Icestorm has almost vanished in first say.

I'm guessing Corvus Belli underestimated demand. That or they brought the maximum amount of stuff within constraints (storage space, shipping expenses/time, etc) and it just wasn't enough.

That's my plan currently. I'd considered reading the available rules in preparation for Icestorm, but have decided to just wait on the box and go from there to avoid any confusion between editions.

This seems like a really tough game to leap into :/

Until you play your first game. Then so much becomes crystal clear. So get the Quick Starter rules (should be here http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/downloads/rules/%5Ben%5DQSR-A4.pdf), set up a table and proxy a few minis and play through them, or walk yourself through the rules this way. The new QS rules should be available next week I hear. Icestorm will ship in September.

Pick the faction that has the most visual appeal to you. This works. Really. Don't fret about the Vanilla/Sectorial stuff just yet. You can play around with the Army Builder to see the possibilities when the time comes.

How many boxes did they bring? That one display had 125 in the top photo, and less than 27 in the bottom photo. So at least 100 sold on day one. And probably close to that many alt-Pennys.

Looking at the link Red Harvested posted, it is Second edition since they do not have the new weapon ranges and Camo still fires first in surprise instead at the same time at -3 from what the leak was.

N3 Quick Start Rules don't get put online until September.

Yar, 2E rules. Maybe 3E QS comes next week, after GenCon. They are apparently ready to go.

So, I hear both Penthesilea and Icestorm have sold out. That weeping you hear is CB, because they didn't bring enough stock. There are also tears of joy mixed in. Wow. Day and a half to sell out.

Bringing it back to news of sorts

O:I is the ideal launch point to jump into infinity. PanO & Nomads are the most popular factions. They're also a fairly representative sample of the universe. You get units from all the current sectorials (3 for PanO, 2 for Nomads) so you can branch out from this box with ease.

Icestorm will be our first glimpse of N3.
Don't try to learn the 2nd edition rules.
So many new rules & erratas have been heaped upon 2nd edition. Why bother navigating that twisted web when it will all be streamlined in N3? Not to mention the translation issues we've had to wrangle with in 2nd edition.

Unless you have a store to go play at, the hardest component to find will be a friend willing to learn the game with you or split the box (if youre willing to share).
Considering they had nothing like this before, it's the obvious choice for newbloods.

Infinity is complicated. Its intricacies are what make it delightful, but it'll be easier to learn in baby steps.
You won't be an expert after one game, two games, five games ... Hell I still discover new evil strategies after 2 years while I continue to analyze all the army lists & contemplate the maddening rule interactions.

Is that a natural 21?

Wow when I got there around 10-10:30 that pallet had like two rows maybe, unless I saw a different pallet. They were out of penny and the bolt but that saves money.

Have you got good shots of yojimbo yet? I took a couple if no one else has yet. Both display boards are wonderful and these models are truly gorgeous up close!

Looking forward to a learn to play tomorrow. I saw Carlos but I only talked to a cashier.

I counted about 240 O:IS in that first pic and they sold out in a day and a half? Damn.

Somehow I think CB will be able to push that 75%ish growth for at least another year.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

So this product was limited to 3000 copies, and sold 12.5% within a single day to convention-goers that had to physically be within a certain geographical location?

5000 copies in the first run and they said if it depending on how it sells, they might do a second run. I think it is a good sign a second run wouldn't go to waste.
