I have other question in mind: Since Riot Girls where kind of "fast" HI since 2ed Mov is 4-4 compared to other 4-2. Can we asume that they will keep that "fast profile" and go Mov 6-4 as other HI go up to 4-4??
I would welcome it with open hands and a smile, otherwise there must be drop in price but it would be lame.

Every faction has 4 - 4 HI. That was partly my point from earlier. Once standard HI get 4 -4 movement CB will have to look at the points costs for either the HI that go up to 4 - 4 movement or existing units that already had it. I doubt if they will just make all those existing 4 -4 HI 6 - 4 instead as that would be way too many super fast HI running around.

My bad....I was sure 4-4 Move where somehow unique(or not so popular) to Riot Girls my dreams are in ruins.

Maybe just bump up the hyperdynamics by a rank? Or give them kinematica but I'm not sure if that's as helpful.

In other news, the darned official forums' server is still overwhelmed about half the time I try to go there. This during the crucial period where everyone and their niece is getting interested in the game. They need to upgrade their systems ASAP, not just to please the current fanbase but to give new players a landing-point.
(Once players get a bit familiar with the lay of the land they will then realize that's Dakka's better for compiled News & Rumors of course ).

I think so, there's a quick start rules you can go with, it's best to start with 3 basic line infantry on a side just to learn how to move and handle AROs. Then you can step it up by introducing heavier weapons and abilities like camo, drop troops, hacking, and so on. Basically get stuck in with the quick start (unless someone has a better suggestion) and refer to the wiki any time you need help. I believe the main rulebook is somewhat confusingly organized. As for news, did anyone mention a price for the dual yojimbo plus koalas pack?

First, get Operation Icestorm so that you have two forces and some good intro rules.
Run through all the O:I scenarios. Then start adding models. Start at 100 points, then 200. Start doing missions. Get your head around objectives and having to build lists around objectives.
Oh yeah. And expect to lose, a lot. There's a learning curve here. And it takes a while to get good at it

So many models, even less time.

If you're not familiar with the story behind this, the official forums were due to be closed and Data Sphere was going to get 'supported' status from CB.
This is why, even before, the forums hadn't been updated for some time (with loads of the links no longer active and things like that).
But, there was quite an outcry against it so CB decided to keep the official forums running. I would expect them to start making inroads to this now that Gencon has finished though.

Except, if you wanna play now anything else except OI missions, forget some rules from Operation icestorm, and some unit profiles, since it's 3rd edition, which will be months till it gets released. Basically use starter for models only(don't look at profiles either), learning rules from there might just confuse you if you learned them, came to play with someone else, who doesn't know what you are talking about, since he is playing 2nd edition.

An official date hasn't been released yet, but I think most commentators are estimating as early as October and at latest before the end of the year?

While there are changes with the new rules, it's not a complete re-write. From what we've heard so far it's going to be a refinement and tightening of certain rules, but I reckon existing 2nd edition players are going to be able to pick the changes up quickly. And, a large amount of the basic mechanics of the game are probably going to be more or less unchanged.

Any potential pre-orders should come around a month before. October sounds rather optimistic.
N3 rules feel like an upgrade and streamlining the general feel. I think it's a bit awkward to get into Infinity, but it's not the end of the world.

So far with Icestorm, the changes are nothing drastic at all. We know changes to Close Combat and Hacking are coming. Adjustments to weapon ranges, and units costs. This new silhouette rule. I see no problem moving from 2nd to N3. I did notice the new circular template is 125mm diameter. I always thought it was supposed to be CD sized (120mm). N3 will be evolutionary it seems, not revolutionary.
The next reveal is this Sunday from Gutier Lusquinos. I wonder if there will be video...

actually rules are quite changing. From complete range and point rework for a lot of weapons, new cc rules, different AD rules, different hacking etc. Not to mention that almost all unit profile rework., completely different camo rules. I guess If I was new player, I guess it would be quite confusing first to learn part of OI rules, then have to learn 2nd edition rules if I want to play, confusing me even more, then when I got adjusted to them, have to again learn rules from N3 when it comes up in a couple of months. For example HMG is best weapon atm, in N3 it's not that good any more, ML range band sucks completely, but shotgun suddenly becomes really good.
Just take for example camo. You learn in OI completely different rules. Only -3 mod for supprise compared to I shoot you first, then you get to act which is now. Just take OI for good deal on gorgeous models, but ignore rules for now.

However, from what we've heard, very little of this has made it into the Quickstart rules. Using the Quickstart rules to get the core concepts of orders and ARO down, then playing some games of 2nd if you really had to, wouldn't be too jarring.

Quite familiar with that background, thanks.
I'm wondering why CB would allow their systems to be insufficient now. It's been weeks since GenCon: I guess working in tech (and medical tech), I see that kind of lag as a big deal. It represents a lot of lost eyeballs (and potential business). There's also the inconvenience to the existing player base. I'm not trying to sound entitled there, just noting that time spent on the forums directly leads to me buying more Infinity stuff as I go further down the rabbit-hole.

Seriously?
It's every four or five hours that you'll get for stretches of 5-10 minutes "Server error" for their official forums.

Oh please. They don't have to be Google, they just have to actually be willing to spend the money on a more stable forum system.
Tbh, I was more irritated with the silly and wrong "it's been weeks" statement.
Except it is not necessarily wrong. Unless you are camped out on the forums and constantly refreshing, there is the very real possibility that people have been trying to visit the forum and getting the "Error" messages.
Could the statement have been hyperbolic? Certainly. But there is a reason I pull image links as quickly as I see them from the Infinity forums--they go down quicker than a lead balloon whenever there is something new and shiny previewed.

Kan.. it's so funny reading some of your comments and the amount of lee-way that you will give some companies, and how hard you are on others. Please, get some consistency and smite even-handedly!
CB have by all accounts grown massively over the past few years, but are still small-arse compared to some of the other companies in the industry. The decision to keep the official forums running represented an 11th-hour u-turn - this isn't to excuse them (which it shouldn't do) but it might just be a case of them not having server renewals and the like in place, or having been winding down before the sudden influx from Operation: Icestorm traffic - a guy from Datasphere reckoned they had 400% spike in traffic during Gencon, so you have to figure on more than that for the official forums.
I've been able to access easily enough for the last day or so, perhaps things are improving (or else, people have got bored and given up? ) PsychoticStorm commented on the official forums that work is underway on them since the decision was made to keep them open (And of course in the meantime, Dakka sub-forum is begin to grow.. )

You're right: I was wrong about the time since GenCon. Been a very busy couple weeks for me, I messed up the timeline. That wasn't meant to be hyperbolic. Please be more polite to your fellow forumites, son.
Your expectations are unreasonable.
No, it's not at all unreasonable to expect a business to support their fan-forums well enough to at least handle regular traffic patterns. I get that they're in a time of transition, and that the forums were planned to be abandoned until a few weeks ago (yes, more than one week for that change). However _right now_ there happens to be a huge amount of new-player interest and buzz resulting from CB's great media campaign and con-exposure for their new product (Icestorm). It's ridiculous to not have the forums working well right now. One week is plenty enough time to make that switch. Maaaaaybe two. You don't have to be Google to do that, just have a decent full-time web guy or shop the job out until you have one.
If it takes until 2015 to get the forums fixed as Erasoteka suggests, that would be a major missed opportunity to gain new recruits and support enthusiastic current players in expanding their forces.
That's my chief concern- the forums being there to welcome new players and get them up to speed. And to support CB's business and generate sales. Supporting existing players also matters, but they might be a bit more patient.
That's not what I would call "whiny and entitled," more like "hopeful to see the business do well and that more awesome Infinity players join our ranks."
