So a bunch of anime is over for this season already, so it lets me stagger a season wrap up. Or half season wrap up rather.

Season 1 of Valvrave: It went places I didn't expect and went there fairly well. Really wish they'd just went ahead with a full 24 episode arc instead of dividing it up over two seasons. I really hated E12's flash forward, and Saki's a bad liar. That is all.

Muromi-San on the Shore: Probably my favorite "surprise of the season". While it's wackiness was so dense as to require theoretical wackiness physics to fully begin to comprehend the episodes were short enough that it didn't wear out it's welcome.

Sparrow's Hotel: Another wacky anime, I was honestly disappointed in the short run time and short season. The characters were a lot of fun and the set up was well executed. They crammed a surprising amount of material into the 3 minute episodes.

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU: Also not /quite/ done. The main arc is over but there's a true blue "bonus episode" that will pop up on CR in a couple days. However I really enjoyed this one. The main duo of Hachiman and Yukino are both actually really enjoyable to watch as they interact with their more social peers, getting peeks at Yukino's inner motivations and method, and of course getting a chance to dig into Hachiman's psychology heavy inner monologue is pretty interesting and the show is not without potential /actual/ insight. Good marks across the board.

Photo Kano: I'm considering this one done. There's another episode coming out but it seems like it's a "bonus" episode as Ep 12 had a little recap/conclusion thing at the end... and it's a remaining arc that is just down right squicky. The main heroine's six episode arc was pretty damn good imho, and the one episode mini arcs for the remaining heroines were also decent with one or two that just felt a bit weak. Could have stood to have been a bit longer, maybe enough to give each arc two episodes at least. Another surprise as I'm usually not a big fan of H game based anime.

-----------------------------------------------------

Stuff I just started:
Jormungand, child soldiers are squicky even to a moral leper with minimal appreciation for the value of human life or childhood innocence like me, but it's pretty damn good.

Want to know what else is good?

Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Holy. fething. Monkey Balls. I lack words. Go torrent it now. You can feel justified in stealing it because the IP rights holders only release the massive content on a "complete" DVD edition that runs for over $3000. They also don't do releases outside of Japan. Because they'd have to stop selling their content for roughly 300,000 yen. This is truly a Space Opera in every sense of the term (right down to the gorgeous classical music... all suspiciously in the public domain, but well played and timed any way) and even does a lot of things I hate in light scifi "righter" then most such series. For example fighters have maneuvering thrusters instead of freaking FLAPS, and while they move a little better then an actual space craft, they aren't hooking and jabbing like an F-22 who's pilot just did a triple shot of espresso before being turned loose on a squadron of MiGs. The MASSIVE (fleets are composed of thousands of "ships of the line" sized vessels.) space battles are also conducted with three dimensional maneuvering in mind... to a limited extent, but it's still bettter then most. Lots of character drama, politics, and tactical thinking/skill that would make Lelouche green with envy.

Hey you didn't mention Pyscho-Pass, that show was wicked good. I recall some people mentioning they didn't like the ending or the main girl? I would have to agree the ending could have been better, and the main character was...lame. The leading male character was so much cooler, along with the main villain. I'd say the show was pretty awesome overall.

Spoiler:
The writer said if the show gets a large enough backing he might do a second season, but the show ended on such a cliffhanger. THERE HAS TO BE A SEASON 2! Gobby PLS!!!!!!!!!!

I really enjoyed Psycho Pass, it's not part of this season's anime though.

My favorite this season? Railgun S2 by far, hands down, no competition. But I knew it would be my favorite going in, the books are great and JC Staff has done an amazing job translating light novels to anime.... Well, in this case it woudl be a manga but still, it has been an amazing piece of work to watch. The other two I liked were Gargantia and Aku no Hana. Gargantia has been a great drama and Aku no Hana has been an underrated deconstruction of the "coming of age" story.

Just caught the end of Gargantia. Epic. A little sad the series was so short. Kind of wish they'd gone for a 26 episode season but what we got was pretty good imo.

Watching the end of Gargantia now. Holy Freyja's red tears!

Spoiler:
Damn Striker went ALL the way crazy. Dunno how in the nine hells that happened but feth that was a cool ending! GO TO HELL TIN CAN! Amy and Ledo's cute lil squirrel critters at the end were diabetuss inducing

I really wish it had been longer, but the arc was great and I really enjoyed what there was.

I also finished up Oreimo to find... a conclusion that wasn't a conclusion at all. While I'm not a fan of some of the themes it's tackling (siscon, *gag*) in general the execution's decent and I like the characters enough to at least want to see how the story ends. The final three episodes, which are the /final/ final three as the light novel series ends sometime this month as well, will air 18 August as a marathon. They'll be on crunchy roll for those who care.

It does sound good, but I can't seem to find where it's airing. MAL says it started on the 23rd but no sites have it?

Edit: research finds that it airs in Japan on the 4th, we will probably have it subbed on the 5th or 6th. Hopefully it airs on Crunchyroll or Funimation so i don't have to find an... alternative source.

haha ya sorry about that, I just used MAL to link it bc it was one of the few sites with a description of it. But ya it'd be nice if it were on crunchyroll since they have pretty good video quality.

Hmmmmm, this one has interesting potential...

Official Title - Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi
Alternative Titles - The Sunday without God, Kami-Nai

Description
God abandoned the world on Sunday. As a result, nobody in the world can die or reproduce. A little girl, Ai, is the gravekeeper for a village. She has prepared 47 graves for the eventual deaths of every member of the village. Later, a boy who identifies himself as “Hampnie Hambart, the ‘Man-eating Toy’,” which is coincidentally the name that Ai’s mother left behind as the name of her father, arrives in the village and slaughters everybody. Just what is going on?

Good animation style/quality I thought. Interesting premise. Raised a lot of questions in the first episode and I'll be curious to see where they go with it.

No, but I indeed am interested in that Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi -thing.

The only one I saw as possibly entertaining this season.

So I finished Utena the other day. I say it was pretty good, but the ending to the series seemed kind of cliffhangerish in my opinion. Have to look around for the movie before I start Haruhi or Appleseed (since this season does not look that interesting at all).

Also, I have this as well, since it seemed a bit relevant to the thread.

Did valvrave actually get good? I watched the first 3 and got annoyed with it.

It started out so different, consciously breaking out of the usual rut, avoiding the unrequited love nonsense via completely unusual means. I was interested.

Then suddenly they reset the world and undo everything, going back on every interesting decision they had made.

Some other stuff I just finished/Started

Vividred Operation: From the director who did Strike Witches this revisits that age old theme of saving a world mysteriously devoid of pants for women. Skirts at least exist in some areas though so it's better then Strike Witches.... a little. Also instead of WW2 fighter planes, this series approaches the concept with a "sci fi magical girl" theme. Not bad to be honest, the girls are cute (in the awww sense) and while the show's focus on the magic of friendship makes you feel like someone switched the dialogue with a My Little Pony episode at times it's solid enough across the board. Only complaint? The fan service is cranked to 11 and is NEVER turned down.

Broken Blade: Technically a series of six films I'm a third of the way through. Go watch this. Now.

Lucky Star: It's Lucky Star, we all know what's going on here.
