Don't get me wrong, I /like/ fan service, I enjoy a nice set of jubblies or a well curved tush just like any other red blooded heterosexual male or our various bisexual and lesbian allies here on team "Yay Females". So Don't take it as that, it's when a show that had a lot more to it then the already signficiant amount of fan service it had dumps all the other stuff that made it good and piles on the fan service as a substitute that I start making angry motions with my fist at the screen.

Infinite Stratos goes back and forth and forth between plot/fan-service and plot and fan-service. (Yay jubblies) but I am used to it since I really enjoy High School DxD, that show has some sweet action and makes light of the ridiculous amounts of fan-service in it. As evidenced by a piece of the oppai dragon song:
Oppai dragon, oppai dragon,
grope, grope, suck, suck,
zoom, zoom, iyaan.

Dark Angels- 7500 pts Tau- 5000pts Chaos Daemons- 3000/2000 pts Dark Eldar(allies)- 1500 pts Zoom, Zoom, Iyaan.

Fan service only annoys me when it's completely over the top. A side boob shot here and there, a compromising situation, juggle effects I can live with until they become so intense or so frequent that the series starts to feel like soft porn rather than whatever I actually wanted to watch it for.
Exception is Highschool of the Dead which took fan service to the point of self-parody. That earns my approval.

If they get far enough into the series, the crunchy bits will be there in full. The fights get so awesome and brutal, but still add in the fan-service (in somewhat ridiculous ways). But to each their own.

I find it hilarious that Japanese newspapers would actually report something like that at all.
Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines
Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
Ep14 of Steins;Gate and I don't see me stopping anytime soon ... damn it, this is why I can't watch anime...
Seriously, whoever wants an anime that makes you go "HOLY GAK, NO FRACKING WAY!" (change those words to the real world equivalent) while holding your head with both hands, try this one.
Edit: 16 eps in a row and I'm only stopping because it's 2:30 am and because I don't think I can take any more depression... or cry ... I think I'm all dried up. What a story...

It does paint a rather sorry stereotype that Japan is so obsessed with Manga they follow the freakin writers.

Well comic fans follow comics, tv fans follow tv, movie fans etc. Manga is a popular medium in Japan. Even books typically end up being more well known for their manga adaptations than the books themselves in popular culture from what I can tell as an outside observer who mostly reads manga XD
Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova aka Arpeggio of the Blue Steel is pretty kick ass if you like watching warships and submarines duking it out. I do so this is freaking fantastic.

I think I read somewhere that the most popular shounen manga series outsells the entire American comic book industry on its own in the same timeframe these days. In fact, it might not even be the most popular, but the third most popular that outsold it, and the most popular sells 3-10 times more than it does.
Part of it may very well be that, as the Japanese comic and animation industry never had the 'Kids show' stigma, they're more willing to create pieces that use darker themes, and have engaging long-term storylines. It probably also helps that it's usually a single writer for an entire series, and when the writer stops, the series stops- instead of slinging popular characters around from one author to another, many with wildly different styles and focuses.

So, yeah, sorry to sound like a broken record, but I can't recommend Steins;Gate enough. I just finished it and man, I laughed, I cried, I rejoiced, I despaired, it was a roller-coaster of emotions. Just too damn good.

Honestly, that song is just perfect for everything. It's just so epic, it makes me just want to go out and do stuff. When I imagine my DIY Chapter's marines fighting, I imagine them fighting to that song.
The second opening isn't bad either, in fact I find it awesome. They comprise a solid 10 minutes of my jogging music, and that's saying something, considering the songs (including the extended version of the 1st opening) are only about 5 minutes combined.

Much better. Hell yes. Seito Kaichou isn't going to be messing with my shipping order any time soon, but she's fun.
Mecha fighting, action, story, and fan service. THIS is what we were all waiting for. And I will say this, Tatenashi's character will only get better from here (and she is already funny and badass). If the season keeps up like this last episode, then we are in for one hell of a ride.
